Good news to eBook lovers: Instead of Three Wishes and the Attolia Series are now available on eBook:

I came across this community a few months ago, when I was reading The Thief. Didn't really explore it back then to avoid spoilers, but made a mental note to come back once I've read the next two books. Now I have, so hello :-)

I discovered the series when I read a review of The King of Attolia that started out like, "hero marries woman who cut off his hand and becomes king." ...say what!? That was enough to intrigue me, and without reading the rest I sought out the first book. (Sometimes though I wish I discovered the series some other way, without knowing those stuff in advance.)

Been browsing through the archives, and am enjoying reading past discussions. Thanks especially for:
- this map (very helpful)
- THIEF! short story (who knew?)
- While She Knits (love the book recs; already put The Game of Kings and The Lies of Locke Lamora on my to-read list)

welcome!

...wow, that map is completely opposite of the one in my head. Sounis and Attolia are switched...or well, actually, if you mirror-imaged that one, you'd have mine (i.e., the coast DOES swoop down to Sounis, except Sounis is in the east, not west).

that's just my instinctive map, not necessarily based on any real truth.

I am (same username), but it's blank, I only use it to read other Voxes :) I'm way more active here on LJ, am a translator for [livejournal.com profile] stormy_team :)

I'm actually the opposite, I kinda stop reading after I drowned myself in the fandom lol... I discovered Gen way before I got into Arashi 100%.

Welcome!

I drew the map, based entirely on what I could figure out from the book, so it's not authoritative or complete :)
I am pretty sure about the orientation of the countries, though, because Attolia has Magyar to the NE of it - it's mentioned in KoA. I never had an instinctive map, which is why I drew one!

Did you know Megan Whalen Turner is including a REAL MAP in the next book? I am so excited :D

I think she said at one point that she'd finally caved in to pressure from her editor, who really wanted a map. Paraphrasing, of course :) Someone who isn't too lazy to search the archives/has librarian skillz could probably point you to the comment...

My map is the product of a *severe* case of pre-exam procrastination. :-P

Yay for de-lurking! And discussions! And While She Knits! I have a particular fondness for the WSK posts, because the first day they were proposed was the day I found the community and joined, and my thoughts were something along the lines of, DISCUSSING BOOKS WITH OTHER GEN FANS OMG I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY... and I'm still here. :-D. WSK posts are basically my go-to place for reliable book recs now.
So glad to have you!

This is probably ancient news for everybody else, but I'm a little out of it: where is this THIEF! short story that I keep hearing about? I feel really lame for not figuring it out yet...

I second that! Wonderful site!

I've been lurking here for ages, being a huge fan of Megan Whalen Turner's books and stories, and I agree! What riches are here!! A MAP!! I love it -- and, fortunately, it looks quite like what I imagined.

But a short story I haven't read? A "Thief" short story? How can I read it?

Thank you so much!

~D.

Yes, the WSK posts! I need to print out every one in detail for book recs. Sounis rocks my world.

Welcome! And thanks for letting us know about the e-books. Someday I will be able to afford an e-reader. Then I will get e-copies and be well on my way to 17 copies of each book. Yay!

Do you know my first thought after reading this post was whether or not ebooks counted towards the 17 copies??? :) Clearly I am as invested in your Dream of 17 as you are. hehehehe

And hello epidural! This is a great place to be, I'm sure you'll love it!

Welcome! Thanks for the info about the ebooks.

Edited to add: I think what makes Sounis truly different from other fan sites--and mwt's fans different from other fans--is how we like to discuss other people's books, too.
