In anticipation of a book trailer for A Conspiracy of Kings, let's talk about Book Trailers while Megan is busy knitting.  What do you like? What do you NOT like? Are there any out there you think are really excellent?

And, separate but equal, [livejournal.com profile] squight was working on a trailer for Queen of Attolia (how's that coming along, squight?). What about the clever members of sounis doing one for the other books? What would you put in a trailer for The Thief or The King of Attolia? Would you have music? If so, what?

I haven't actually seen anything but a few fan trailers here and there (for other series) and they weren't all that memorable. I'd love it if people linked to some. AMV's on youtube are a favorite time-waster of mine. :D

I was impressed by the trailer for Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon (she posted just before you). I liked that it had beautiful scenes and music. The trailer was one of the reasons I read the novel, which I enjoyed a lot.

Trailers should tell more about the plot and characters, too!

I can't explain it (and I'm still in denial about how much I like the book), but this trailer actually worked for me.*

The book is called Hearts at Stake, and aside from the obvious title, it turned out to be surprisingly fun and readable. And given that it's tween fare about a vampire princess and her human BFF, the readableness is shocking.

I think the best thing about this trailer is that it's short, simple, and trying to be engaging. And they are smart enough to zoom in on one of the best points of the book, which is this narrator's simultaneously down-to-earth and girly voice. Probably book trailers are like most of the other internet extras: they are easy to do, but that doesn't mean they work if you do a bad job. I'm guessing that viral videos do a better job selling something than a straight trailer.

*Although, to be fair, I found the trailer after reading the book. I have yet to be converted by a trailer.

It's a pretty fun book, despite all appearances of silliness. Good sugar for a rainy weekend when Anne Rice seems like too much work. ;) Also appropriate for fourteen-year-olds in your life, which Anne Rice may not be...

I liked the book trailer winner for The Forest of Hands and Teeth a lot; I think it fit the mood of the book really well, while keeping my interest visually. Here's the link. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou1s3t6q2Q4)

I remember liking the winner of the trailer contest for The Sweet Far Thing too. I don't know, I guess I'm shallow. Trailers that are teh pretty tend to stick out in my mind. :)

I haven't seen too many book trailers. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7jwHLDpxFM) is one for Graceling.

I do. The trailer makes is seem like it's a much more simplistic book than it is. More Twilight-ish. Plus, the trailer's pretty cheesy in places.
