Hello Sounis-friends!

It's an index of just how scatter-brained I've been for the last few months that I only just remembered this. I don't know how many of you are a) in the New York City area and b) doing nothing tonight at 6:00, but there's a fabulous-looking author's panel at Books of Wonder this evening.

MWT will not be speaking, alas, but given the buzz I've seen at this comm about The Hunger Games and Graceling (which just jumped to the top of my TBR list...) and maybe even Great and Terrible Beauty, I think some people here might jump at the chance to see Suzanne Collins, Kirsten Cashore, and Libba Bray. Especially when they're joined by Michael Grant, Scott Westerfield, and Justine Larbalestier.

It is going to be a night of awesome, my friends. I don't know if anybody else can make it - especially on such this short notice! - but I felt like you would appreciate knowing that it was happening.

I'm a bit of a lurker on this community, but I am DEFINITELY going. Been planning on attending for a week or to now, ever since I found out :D

A little daunted by how crowded it might be, but I can't miss this for the world. Are you coming by yourself or with friends?

haha, then I'll be super inconspicuous - short, Asian, long hair wearing a headscarf and a plum shirt with jeans and boots. Maybe! I'm trying to drag some of my friends too but the second wave of midterms are about to hit.

I'm Faye btw :)

Just FYI, Michael Grant can't make it, he has food poisoning. I may be going, haven't quite decided yet.

I did know this was happening, and I can't go! How sad is that? And I've been wanting to meet Kristin Cashore for ages -- and the other authors who are going to be there are awesome, too!

Have a wonderful time, though!

Graceling is my favorite book I read in '09. I love it and highly recommend!

Hi guys, I have some info that all sounis members will be interested in, I think...
Owing to circumstances beyond my control, I have yet to get a legit livejournal account for myself, so I can't actually post this separately like I know I should. My sister recently found this snippet from A Conspiracy of kings floating around on Facebook that is different than the one that other people have posted. I couldn't say for sure that it is a legit piece of the book but i think it is and as far as i'm aware I don't think anyone has posted it on this site as of yet. Here it is:

Megan Whalen Turner’s A Conspiracy of Kings will release in just a few short months, and everyone at Greenwillow Books is excited to be working with Megan as she gives the text its finishing touches.

Would you like a glimpse?

“Yes, I am set, and I can see. Stop nagging,” said the younger man. With one foot on a narrow ledge and the other pressed against the chipped indentation, he was high enough to wrap his left hand around the narrow top of the marker. From this vantage point, he could see easily over the heads of the people gathered in the streets, and with a good grip for one hand, he had the other free. They had chosen the marker the day before because it offered a view up a long straight stretch of the Sacred Way and he would have plenty of time to aim.

So that's what she found on Facebook. If anyone with a legit account would like to give this its own post, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
