Website Updates (Oh my!)

Sorry if this has already been mentioned and I've completely missed it. But has anyone noticed that MWT's personal website has completely changed? She's changed the layout and added a schedule of upcoming appearances, a short "About the Author" section, and individual pages for each book in QT.

And there is a page for CoK. Which has a new blurb. Click the cut to read it!

If anything, it's even less spoilerish than the one from Greenwillow, but it has characterization in it! And that's always a good thing.

Also, if you go snooping around (the way I did), you'll notice on the Novels page that she says the books can be read out of order, but later books spoil earlier ones. (Obviously.) But she also says The Thief might be spoilerish for KoA... I can't wrap my head around it. Did you guys feel like you knew what was going to happen in King because of Thief? I didn't. Someone explain! Now I have to know!

Thief spoilerish for KoA... maybe because you KNOW that Gen MUST be up to something... and also that he can pretend that he doesn't know how to use a sword but he's actually learned how since he was very little...

You know, I think we might be able to come up with several spoilerish tidbits...

I think it's slightly spoiled because you KNOW Gen has something up his sleeve because he's playing the fool like he did in the theif, but i dont think it spoiled King for me because I was still really worried about him!

I love the picture of the dragon with the braid (?!) as MWT!!

I know that QOA would spoil KOA a bit, perhaps--if you've read QOA, you know that Eugenides really loves Irene and didn't marry her for her kingdom, and you know it's a mutual thing rather than him forcing her or anything like that. And I definitely think that if you've read The Thief or QOA, you know that there's more to Gen than meets the eye, and realize how unreliable Costis' viewpoint is. (Not because he's trying to deceive, just because he doesn't know a lot.)

Yeah, new website! And that was done in the last few days.

I can see her point about Thief being a spoiler for KoA. I had read Thief so long ago that I barely remembered it when I first read KoA. If you know nothing of/barely remember anything about Gen, then the realization at the end is even more huge than it is if you already know Gen. I did remember enough to know that Gen was more than he seemed, but I don't think knowing the contents of Thief makes the end of KoA more predictable.

Hmm, I get it. I had always taken the fact that the reader is in on Gen's secrets in KoA as an integral part of the plot, but I guess if you hadn't read the first two books, you wouldn't understand that about Gen's character. I think I like it better knowing, though :)

I mentioned it.. in chatzy cause I was too lazy to make a post. I think it just went up today ..or yesterday and I also said how acof says its coming out in April which I cross my fingers that it still be coming out in March. Yes it is 'moderately dull', or maybe slightly better than that :)

I was afraid it'd be April. I work at a bookstore and when I check for CoK (which I do a lot for some reason even though I know nothing's going to change) it always gives the date as April 2010. :(

No, because she's greedy and she means to keep Sounis ALL TO HERSELF!

Alternatively . . . .Sounis is its own independent thing and I don't ever want that to change and I wouldn't want anyone who saw the link on my site to think that Sounis belonged to me in any way or that anyone here wasn't free to say whatever they wanted about the books.

*rubs eyes* I almost can't believe it. She updated her website! And it is beautiful. I always get caught up in those beautiful covers. Off topic: but which one(s) is your favorite? I adore the KoA--Eugenides bearing the burden and uncertainity of being king and Attolia right there supporting him is so tangible. And he looks very young doesn't he?
O.K. back on topic. I love the scrapbook. I so want to visit that hotel now. I am not surprised it insipired her. But what do you think caught her inspiration in the two cards? Can you see them in any of the books so far? Maybe she hasn't used the inspiration yet...
I agree with you all that knowing Gen before the KoA lets you know that what you are seeing is not the whole picture and Gen has a whole deck of cards up his sleve. But why did she specifically say Thief and not QoA?
All of this just confirms that I need to reread these books soon. A difficutl task. ;)

Re: The KoA cover: While I love it and the other covers too, I've never really seen that one as Attolia giving Gen her support. It always looked a little to me like a controlling hand or a driving hand. Maybe not. Maybe just because he does look so very young and even just her hand doesn't. I don't know. I've just never seen her as supporting on the cover.

Then again, even though the figure is not smiling, I feel like he almost could start smiling--or smirking! smirking would be even better--at any moment, and then you'd know that although it seems like the Queen is in control (what everyone in Attolia thinks), the King is really pulling all the strings with his mad ninja skillz.

Anyone else? Thoughts?
