Maps

One of the things that I've found most interesting about the latest update from Greenwillow (of course I wasn't caught swooning! Don't be ridiculous...) is the /inclusion of a map./ Ever since Eugenides, the Magus, Pol and the Uselesses trekked across all three borders in the Thief, I've been curious to know exactly how the Eddisian mountains are laid out. I've made a few attempts myself, based on the info we have in the books about the Dystopia, the Sea of Olivers, and the sparse mention of major bodies of water... but they don't seem coherent or book-jacket worthy. If anybody else has come up with a design, I'd love to see it!

I hope this link works--it's all the sounis posts that are tagged "maps".

I'm rereading QoA and am mightily confused about where everything is located. But I'm the first to admit I'm a map dummy. Really looking forward to seeing this infamous map, when it (hopefully)ends up in the final version of ACoK.

It will be there? Right?

At the risk of being flagrantly self-promoting, here http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/213657.html is the original post and explanation for the map Elle mentioned, and another one drawn by the lovely pigrescuer, which has the countries the other way around, because none of us can ever agree on which order the countries are in :-P

Please, please, Greenwillow, put us out of our misery and let us see a proper, author-approved map!

You're welcome! I'm very flattered that someone liked it enough to print.

*sigh*

No, no map. I didn't get it done and it seemed like a bad idea to hold up production.

Oh noooo! But yes, probly we'd all prefer to get the book sooner rather than wait.

May we see it anyway, when it gets finished?

I don't know. But I know my editor wants it done even before the next manuscript. And the copyeditor threatened to feed himself to a leopard if we tried to squeeze one in at the last minute. Or, wait . . . maybe it was me he was going to feed to the leopard.
Hmmmm.

Can't imagine why. :P

Megan, I'm beginning to suspect that even you aren't sure which way the countries are lined up.

Or, conversely, you're sitting there, like author/murder victim Appin Kungannon in that classic piece of literature Bimbos of the Death Sun, bottle of Chivas Regal at hand, snorting at us while we devise plausible explanations and minute details.

Or, maybe you're just a procrastinator. Wonder which one it is.

Very true statement

mwt you're very much like Attolia, even though you pull the release date back by a month and give us false hopes for a map, I still can't help but love you because the "next manuscript" is on the way...

yes, it's not the poor, unfinished map's fault now is it? Now, I think it deserves an apology.

If "the map" dares to hold up production, I will not kiss it. Besides, I prefer kissing Costis. (Or would, if he were a live person who would let me)

*comes out of corner and pats unfinished map on the back awkwardly*

well..I guess you're right. It's not the maps fault it's not been finished in 5 years...*glares ruefully in the direction of a CERTAIN author* ...and I do love discussions..

I hate to be the bringer of bad news but, "sniff" there will never be a map. However, we can all just wait until the new book to get more geographical info to add to those done!!!
