wsk - Invitation to a Fancy Dress Party
Dec. 31st, 2009 11:03 pmAs a twist on the Casting Game we love to play so much, think about which character in the books you would cast YOURSELF as, and come to our New Year Fancy Dress Party as that character. And let's not worry about the sex! If you want to be Ambiades, then come as Ambiades. If
Then tell us why you chose them, your thoughts as that person, or reveal some of the things you (as that character) has done or witnessed that Megan is so Not Telling us.
If you would like to bring a date from another book to the party, by all means bring them along! Introduce them to us, and let us know how they are fitting in and who they are conspiring - I mean, dancing - with.
*Sends out the Heralds with the Invitation, while the musicians start to tune their instruments*
Let the Party Begin!

Date: 1/1/10 07:03 am (UTC)I love Eddis. First off, I love her because she's NOT beauty by convention. I mean even though Gen says she's ugly and she's got a broken nose..I just can't see her not being beautiful. (It's the way I imagine most of my sounisian friends :) I love that she's smart, not just smart but brilliant. She's not afraid to USE her brain, and that makes her attractive.
She's a ruler and she can clearly see right from wrong and I think when it comes to her personal choices she makes the right decisions. Even Attolia can't hate her.
I also love her relationship with Eugenides, it's a very sweet one. I think she's is one of his first real true friends. And with Gen, that takes a lot. The fact that she's able to see past his fronts (annoying, quite, rude, etc) is something that's really great about her.
:]
I want to be Eddis when I grow up..ahah it's true
omg I got like 18 NOT TELLINGS from mwt
18!!
She wrote each one of them out :] I'm sure I can do some filling it, though *smiles knowingly*

Date: 1/1/10 12:36 pm (UTC)I like her because she's not as smart and careful as the other attendants and is sort of tactless ("something that goes better with that beard"). She is a lucky girl to keep her job. It reminds me of all the times I've been lucky despite being a brat.
I like to think she learns from that and from watching Attolia and Gen's relationship evolve. After listening to Phresine she comes to accept Gen. She found Dite's song funny. For 30 seconds. Then got a Pointed Look from Phresine. She teases Ileia about Costis but is secretly jealous how nice and angelic Ileia comes across as.

Date: 1/1/10 01:53 pm (UTC)(you know, I bet Sejanus - the new and improved Sejanus - would be a fun date for this occasion)
TLE, the green dress is GORGEOUS! You should post the link in this post. You might need Gen to find some appropriate earrings for you.

Date: 1/1/10 03:11 pm (UTC)It was the mention of "the row of carved beads on a shelf and the assortment of tiny amphoras on a tabletop." It is clear to me that Atollia is a Collector. I collect tiny glass bottles, myself. Among many, many other things. I don't have any carved beads (I'm assuming here that the beads are separate objects and not a decorative feature of the shelf. I have this feeling that I read something else about them, but can't think of where right now; which means I may have imagined it). At least, I don't have any *yet*.
Anyway: Something that Megan Isn't Telling about Attolia: We all have these various theories about why Attolia didn't move into the traditional Queen's Rooms, and Gen didn't move into the ones Attolia currently occupies (or even into the Queen's Rooms). It's all this psychological stuff about Gen's being homesick, wanting to fool people about their true feelings for one another, symbol of power, etc.
Well, the truth is much simpler. She can't move into those rooms. Neither can Gen, or anybody else. She's a Collector, remember? They're full. Very, very full, of all her various collections.
(This is from someone who is trying to cram all of the stuff she has moved from her house in Germany into the house she has bought in Indiana, which already had plenty of stuff in it anyway, and understands about Not Enough Space).
As to what I'm wearing ot this fancy dress ball: A lovely pink dress, with ruffles positively foaming at the bottom of the skirt. Shading from paler pink at the top to a darker pink at the bottom. (Attolia decided that after all those deep reds and such, and even the light green, she'd do something different just for a change).
As to whom I'm bringing to the dance: Peggy said she could totally see me with Claverhouse, so I figured, why not? He's very bonnie, and since I've discovered to my complete staggered astonishment that my husband was actually jealous of Dite, I think it would be fun to tease him with another handsome man with long curls.

Date: 1/1/10 03:21 pm (UTC)I'm Heiro, in my very best earrings and a really stunning dress (but elegant and tasteful, of course). I'm pretending not to notice that heads are turning when I walk by -- people don't recognize me dressed like this. I've brought Alan Breck from Kidnapped, who is schmoozing with everyone. He's a great dancer, and would never forget me in the corner. Of course, the King's keeping an uneasy eye on Alan, just...not quite sure what he's up to, or whether they're on the same side (they are). Alan keeps saying loudly, "I bear a King's name!" even though I warned him not to...oh well. I get along with Alan because he never underestimates me, and he brings out my rarely-seen sense of humor. Also he picked out the dress. I think the Queen was relieved to see me with Alan. The King often dances with me, and I know she's not really jealous, but she...notices.

Date: 1/1/10 03:22 pm (UTC)I did tell you, didn't I, that Megan suggested Josephine Tey's Claverhouse as background reading for CofK? I have it on my bookshelf, and intend to read it before the end of March.
