Hullo all! I live in the UK and since I wasn't sure if pre-ordering from Amazon meant that the book would be delivered or received by on the release date, I went by the main bookstore in town (Waterstones) and asked if it would be possible for them to have CoK in stock on the day of.

Alas, woe--they cannot, because CoK has an American-only publisher. (Or something like that...) I also got the sense from them that those of us in the UK would indeed get the book later, because it has to be shipped from America.

But for you lucky American folks, I'd recommend going by your local bookstore and asking if they can have the book in stock on the release date. It doesn't hurt to ask!

Might I recommend Powell's? (http://www.powells.com/biblio/62-9780061870934-0) They have international shipping, and aren't currently trying to strongarm the publishing industry into giving them an ebook monopoly. ^_^

There's an alternative to Amazon called thebookdepository which lists CoK here http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/search?searchRefined=true&searchTerm=Conspiracy+Kings&page=1&searchAddedTerm=Megan+Whalen+Turner&submit=Go

Date of publication is 1st April, and it's available for pre-order.

Amazon has several times said that a book will take 3 - 5 days and hasn't delivered for a month, in my experience.

As for Waterstone's, my daughter works in one of their shops and she got the same answer you did when she asked!
