There has been discussion of what Eddis looks like, so I thought people might be interested in my take.  This is not an actress who could play her, but she IS another author.  Stephanie Bolster, the Montreal poet --who is one of my profs --secretly reminds me of Eddis (both her poise and kindness, and her smile).   Though I'm sure she's too pretty.   :)

She's also a great poet (she's won many awards), if you're looking for reading! :D

This is her...

Don't you just love having a professor that makes you proud to be their student?

Yes, much better! She's not beautiful, but she is attractive.

this! I think she fits very well. A little skinny, but the face is good.

I agree--a bit too skinny, otherwise good.

You're right, she definitely looks like an Eddis.

Here's a pic of an actress I've always thought looked sort of like her (not the hair, but that's what hair stylists are for). It's the smile, I think - but you really have to see her in RL to get the full effect. She's wonderful - I saw her in All's Well That Ends Well.

Same theater company, different actor and part - This guy is my first pick the Magus:

(He's the one in the background - the woman in the foreground is my favorite actress of ALL TIME, she's absolutely brilliant (I think she'd be an awesome Attolia))

...Yes, I have casted everyone I have ever seen at this theater company as characters from QT, why do you ask?

Ooh, I like your Magus. Not sure about the other two, but it might be the straight hair/kimonos that are throwing me. lol

Yeah, I know. They're not perfect looks-wise, but OMG IF THERE HAS EVER BEEN A BAD ACTOR AT SSC THEN PIGS HAVE WINGS. *flail*

I think he would make a perfect Teleus, myself! (Is he married, btw? ;))

I'm pretty sure he is, sorry.

(no, I'm not stalking the SSC people. NOT AT ALL)

I like her! She's magnetic, at least as much as anybody can be in a photo, which makes a big difference to me for a potential Eddis. And she has just the right balance of attractive but not magazine-beauty, as I think someone mentioned above.

Yay, I think this is my favorite one yet in International Eddis Casting Week!

She has a very interesting face, but she's too narrow-shouldered and thin, Doesn't Eddis have wide straight shoulders, which make me think of her as being quite sturdy?

I imagine her more like a young Claudia Black (http://www.xenaville.com/cast/claudiablack.jpg) (Aeryn Sun in Farscape, Vala in SG1), but of course with short, curly hair. She has a strong and fascinating face that I think would suit Eddis, but of course we're too late to get her at the right age. :-)

Looking at English actors might be more profitable as they don't have to be beautiful. I can't think of any off-hand though.

Oh, Claudia Black was one of my fantasy Attolias a few years back - she's much too beautiful to be Eddis.

This professor lady is more like it, but yes, she's too delicate-looking for Eddis.

I'm always surprised when people visualize characters as something diametrically opposed to what is described quite clearly in a book. Reminds me of that time in Harry Potter fandom when so many fangirls sniffed that Harry "would never have a stuffy, upper-class British accent - he speaks with an American accent, of course!" Yeah.

I was trying to think of actors with strong faces and big noses that could be made to look broken. I know the look I'm thinking of, but I can't think of anyone who fits it. But yes, she should be fairly athletic and no-nonsense, someone who doesn't look quite right in gowns, better in trousers.

I rather imagined Attolia as looking like Servalan (see icon): beautiful and powerful, but of course with long hair put up.

How on earth did they imagine that Harry was American when he uses British English in the books? I'm glad they didn't turn him into an American like they often do when British books are filmed.

Hazelwillow, I love your prof. for Eddis (even though she's a bit delicate)

Would she do it!

Actually I love this whole thread! (as you may have guessed, I'm rather Eddis-obsessed, lately!)

you know what I think the best "test" would be?

We would put up pictures without a label
and if all of Sounis knew exactly which character the certain actor/actress would be, they'd passed the test.

Honestly, I don't think I'll ever meet a Gen, Sophos, or Eddis how I imagine them in my head.

And props to the casting directors of Harry Potter/ LoTR because almost ALL the characters were nailed on the head there! But, I feel like that's not likely to happen very often...
