It's time to write countdown poems to carry us through to the 23rd.

Here's today's:

Just twelve more days to go!
The time crawls by so slow-
Ly till the book appears
It seems more like twelve years!

I cannot wait to know
Just what happens to So-
Phos and of course to Gen.
It's ages until then!

Join in, everybody!

*joins in with glee*

These release dates are making us manic
Non-US fans beginning to panic.
From all over the world
The enquiry is heard
"Where oh where can we get it from quick?!"

I fail at limericks, but it's true! The only place I can get CofK from is Amazon.co.uk, and it won't even be sent 'til the 25th D:

Another (non-spoilery!) effort:

Temptation: A chatzy monologue

No! DON'T spoil me-
I have no desire to know.
I read books in entirety -
Look and see my resulting halo.
Don't tell me the plot
I've self-control and I've got
a couple of weeks still to go.

Don't tell me which king
conspires with which
or against whom their plot is conceived
Escapades, quests - anything
I'm not scratching that itch
With less information I'm pleased!

Go on then, read your preview on Amazon!
I'll stay here and keep myself pure
I know not to go down that road.
Past experience has showed
Once you start there's no cure
You'll just come back yearning to read on!

Oh those chapters they call to you do they?
They're stuck in your head, you say?
I'll just wait here for you
While you go read the preview -
Don't say I didn't warn you honey
Soon you won't think it's funny
There's two weeks still to go
Before the rest of it's to know!

...is she gone? Is it clear to go?
Quick, riffle through that bookmarks list
I *won't* look, though they'll never know
She'll be back and want to tell me what I've missed
...
I'm just here to see the cover...

Maybe the next page, then another...
teptation from each pixellated letter.
My halo will be tarnished
And yes, I thought I could do better
But pre-crime, anticipation's got me punished!

WHY NOT? Sixty pages
And I've alrady waited ages
Sorry morals, goodbye restraint
I can live with a spoiler's taint.
This waiting makes me sick
And it's so easy just to - *click*.

"Temptation: A Chatzy Monologue" is now my favorite poem ever. Think the English teacher would let me memorize it next block?

What, even with the crazy rhyming scheme that's different in every verse and the frankly weird rhythms? Thank you! I'm very flattered. Bet she will let you :D

TLE, are you still spoiler-free?

I forgot to put a little disclaimer saying I was talking about myself if anyone (I gave in in about 20 seconds, though) not anyone else. Staying spoiler-free is hard, and to those who've done it, well, I admire you, oh pure white angels.

Hmmph, all my efforts going to waste. I do have an idea for that ficlet, it might take me a little while, with school stuff getting in the way, though. Also, me actually post a fic? Everyone would be shocked :-P

Well, I haven't read the chapters - but I've read other stuff. Mostly I'm unspoiled.

Huh. I thought maybe that was more poetic license.

Don't listen to checkers :) she doesn't appreciate a good bit of enjambment.

OooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOooooooooooooooooh!

Whazzat mean????? I want to use it in conversation!

From: [identity profile] tiegirl.livejournal.com
Hmmm. That will be hard to use in conversation, unless I go with "straddling", which will also be difficult, but not impossible.

Jeeez, you guys impress me constantly.

Straddling...hmm

I learned enjambment from my English teacher senior year of high school. It's when a thought in poetry spans more than one line---specifically, is interrupted by a line change. It doesn't have to refer to a split word, but compared to the usual kind where it's just a split sentence, in my mind this instance deserves the word doubly.

"I can't wait until March twenty-third!!"
My friends know my wails to the word.
"I am going to DIE!"
They have all heard me cry,
And they heartlessly say, "Yeah, we've heard."

AHEM slant rhymes AHEM

Something's coming
Something's coming
With a loud melodious rumbling
We can hear it
We can hear it
And we stretch our minds out toward it
To the future
To the future
That obsession nurturing future
That contains
a book we'll know
And we'll crease its pages, though
the perfection will remain there
As we all discuss it here
All the words
All the thoughts
And the people
'bout whom we care
(And yes, that rhymes with "bear")
For the book,
that lovely book
Lovely, viprous, vulpine book
We can hear it
and we'll see it
and we'll read it,
turning pages with elation
(all by Turner, Megan Whalen)
Cause it's coming, coming, coming!
We'll shout:
"Conspiracy is HERE!"

These poems are quite, quite wonderful, e'rbuddy. I'm enjoying them.

I AM NOT ENJOYING THEM BECAUSE NOW I FEEL REALLY UN-CREATIVE!!! IT WAS THE SAME WAY GROWING UP WITH 3 OLDER BROTHERS!! THEY WERE ALL ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE AND I WAS A JOCK!!!

Haiku time!

Ten days left until
Conspiracy of Kings, and
I will be gleeful

Definitely haiku time. I agree.

They all wait for us--
Sophos and Gen and the rest.
Can we wait for them?

I must confess this:
I have read the ARC
But I still can't wait

Plaintive cries abound
"Steal the time, the ten days!
"So we can all READ."

Tiegirl is in awe.
But she should give it a try.
It's quite fun, right, guys?

Anything handish is awesome, if ironic. And I like how you worked in quicksilver/mercurial.
