Woot! Entry number 1,300! oh fooey Squight you stole my glory. 1,301 then.

So, so, so. I have been feeling excited and delighted about YOU KNOW WHAT, of course (TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

And I was wondering exactly how the situation here will conduct itself, when Official ACoK Time Cometh. Tiegirl and I briefly discussed it about a month ago, and we decided it would be a lot of Squeeing, Chaos, and Capslock.

Well, yes. But I've also been feeling a little concerned and borderline control freaky about it, so I was wondering:

(Sorry for lack of Pol poll.)

How should we organize the discussion/chaos when ACoK Time Cometh? (Soooo sooooooon!)

a. We shouldn't organize anything. Whatever happens will happen.

b. We should definitely have some form of organization, such as

    i. A post for each chapter. Those who have thoughts/questions about what happened in it will say it in the comments. (Sorta like the Readalong, just it's ALL in the comments, to be spoiler-proof.) I could set this up.

ii. Reviews and/or links to discussions on people's ljs, akin to what has already begun.

iii. Posts/comments written in a secret code that's unbreakable unless you've read ACoK, and that involves socks somehow.

iv. Some other excellen organizing idea. (These are welcome!)

So whaddaya think?

Only TWO MORE DAYS, PEOPLE! Yippee!!!!!

Maybe entries about the new book could be entirely behind lj-cuts for a while? It's probably going to be a bit before I get my hands on the latest book -- I'm kind of tempted to wait until it comes out in paperback, which is usually a whole year after the hardcover release -- and I love this series so much I think I'd actually be pretty upset if there were big fat spoilers lying in wait on my friends list.

Which I guess is option b-i.

Then I would have to pay my library fines! The horror.

I think waiting for the paperback makes me a masochist, though. A really big masochist.

I'm still finishing my reread, life and work having conspired to delay me, and everyone reads at a different rate in any case, so I would really appreciate the mods making a public post asking for all spoilers to go behind a cut. As to how long that should be policy, I don't know. A month, maybe?

Good idea, nutmeg et. al. So...ALL discussion goes behind a cut or linked to a review on someone's own LJ.

A month sounds good, at a minimum.

I assume people will mostly post their own reviews or questions. I can't see people wanting to discuss the book chapter-by-chapter at this point--what does everyone else think?

Anything else? I'll put it on the profile page, and do a post bright and early Tuesday.

Gosh. TUESDAY.

Do you want me to do the post? Just tell me what to say. I'm ahead timezones-wise and that way it'll be up for when y'all get up and on the actual Tuesday for the NZ-ers.

Oooh I see you're reading a Shannon Hale book. I really need to read those.

Sure! Say that ALL discussion of the book should be behind a cut for at least a month. No icons with quotes from the new book for a few weeks.

You can say, too, that if anyone posts with spoilers on the main page, or forgets the LJ cut, the entry will be deleted. (If that happens I'll copy it to a Word doc first, to give the person a chance to recover it and post with a cut.) How does all that sound?

Here's another question for y'all. Negative reviews. Should they be friends-locked, or not?

I don't think that negative reviews should be friends-locked. I mean, I understand the suggestion, but I think that if you lock away that whole side of the discussion, it would be... well, just not good. Also reviews aren't always wholly negative or positive, so where do you draw the line?

Just my almost-articulate two cents.

Okey dokey

Also PR asks (there's a chat this weekend) what's the policy on spoilers in chatzy from tomorrow? I said saying No Spoilers in Chatzy would be Like Trying To Stop a Tidal Wave...

I vote for Any and All discussion allowed in chatzy. Agree--it would be impossible to keep spoilers out of there.

Why don't you put in the post that anyone who hasn't read the book yet might not want to set foot in chatzy for awhile?

Is this ok with everyone else?

also I was thinking of reposting the sounis titles list since it is an Auspicious Occasion. Anyone who wants a title or wants to change their title can. It would make quite a fun party! What do you think?

If it matters, I like this too.

Now, what about the policy for icons and such with quotes? (I already have some I'm dying to use around here from the ARC ^^;)

None of those for a month either. I guess you'll have to post on your own lj with said icon and then link us to it.

I think I used one or two of them on my review post. :D I'll have to see once the final version comes out what other people's favorite quotes are and make some more.

*om nom nom*

You can go to my user pic page, too, and find those two I have up

Yes to spoilers behind a cut! I'm not sure when I'll be able to get my hands on the book because I'm in Manila (Philippines).

Something along the lines of option B, please. I don't know when exactly I'm getting my copy (and it is bad enough that all my roommates will have read it before me, especially when I am the one who introduced them to the awesomeness)and don't want to be spoiled on any front.

A lot of people who don't live in the U.S. will have to wait a week or more to get the book so all spoilers under an LJ cut please.

I agree with everyone else here. I would add that I love the chapter by chapter reaction posts for anyone who needs immeadiate convo, comfort or to just laugh together. So b1 gets a vote.
Its almost here people!

I like that idea. Plus it is less work for you. Thank you so much for taking your time to do this for everyone. Its here!!!

Personally, I like the chapter by chapter idea. That way we might be able to prevent those giant monster posts with about a million topic discussions from multiple chapters which I can't even follow because there are so many replies and three-fourths are hidden behind the user name and it's a giant confusing mess so I don't even try even though I want to know each and every thing that each and every person says about anything. *pant pant*

Plus, we can avoid spoilers by naming the post by the chapter number instead of the topic discussion.

That is all. :D

Well. Hmmm. You're right 24 posts is way too many. But multiple chapters in one can be problematic. So...yeah...not being very helpful here. Doo de doo, just taking up space. I'm like that hideous lamp you can't throw away!

Okay, one idea, don't post chapters posts automatically. If someone wants to discuss, let THEM post the topic with the chapter number as the title of the post. Except, yeah, there will probably be discussion on every single chapter. Blah. I don't know! What did they do last time?

I guess posting multiple chapters in one is the best way to do it!

Can't we all just meet at Village Inn and discuss the book in person?

If someone wants to do chapter-by-chapter posts, that's fine with me. As long as people can still post specific questions or comments whenever they want, too. But when would the chapter posts start, and how often would they happen?

Whatcha think, [livejournal.com profile] agh_4?

Date: 3/23/10 01:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] magicsandwiches.livejournal.com
How about if someone wants to discuss something, they just title the cut by the chapter. It can be the whole chapter or just one question from that chapter and there could be multiple chapter posts (as in, more than one chapter four discussion going on in case someone wanted to bring something else up that wasn't in the original chapter four post or because the original is loooong gone).

Man, this is tricky! It would be easier if this was a message board (not that I'm complaining, mind).

I am failing at involving socks. However, I am still putting all of my cabbages in the b-iii suggestion. The code should be a simple letter-substitution wherein the key is the first word on the sixty-forth page of the book.

Also, my nerdy-side is freaking out, as I realize that this would be difficult to do by hand, but that a simple computer program would be easy to write... and I should really stop there. But, yeah. Code. I like the code idea.
