Hello! I'm pretty new here, and came across the site after suffering Eugenides withdrawal following my most recent reading of the books. I haven't worked my way through all the discussions, but am making progress. I find it very therapeutic!

I live just west of Madison, WI and have been an MWT fan since Thief came out.  My favorite reading is Young Adult Fiction;  my favorite bookstore is Borders (they consistently highlight and make available the best -often from smaller publishers - new YA books); I am educated to be a chemist but now spend my time with computers rather than in the lab; I spend my time at home raising two kids and orphaned wildlife (in no particular order), and reading whenever I can fit it in.

I love the sharing of favorite passages! Here is another one I don't think was mentioned earlier, from QoA:

“You said I should do something.” Eugenides smiled in the dark, twisting his knife of revenge a little deeper into the magus.

“I did?”

“As you were leaving, after your extremely edifying visit in the spring. You said ‘You could still do something.’ Your exact words.”

“I meant talk your queen into surrendering, not destroy our navy in its own harbor!” the magus shouted

This one always makes me laugh!

Welcome, officially. :) The quote you gave is one of my favourites too. Maybe the sharing of favourite lines thread should be started up again.

You sound like a prety long time Gen fan. I hope I can assauge your Gen withdrawal with the short story I promised to link you to on Wednesday.

Welcome again! If you feel like participating in a discussion, head along to the next chat. :)

I wish I had my book with me to quote this properly, so I'm just paraphrasing from memory, but I always loved the line in QoA where Attolia explains to Eddis why Eugenide's father was kicked in the head.

"He had to be forcibly restrained from strangling his son."

"So have we all, at one time or another."

I love that quote too! I had it up on my MySpace for a while...

Welcome to Sounis! I hope we can ease your withdrawal symptoms.

“You said I should do something.” Eugenides smiled in the dark, twisting his knife of revenge a little deeper into the magus.

And what makes those lines even more fun is remembering in Thief, after the Magus beat Gen with the horse crop, he thought, "I promised myself that someday I would stick a sharp knife into his arrogance and give it a good twist."

I love that part as well. I actually just read it, because I re-read QoA a couple days ago.

Thank you! I am waiting patiently, eagerly, excitedly (is that a word?) for the story. Are you still visiting in Canada, and did you get into the States?

:D Improvised words count, I'm sure, though I think excitedly might be a wrod. Yep, I'm still visiting in Canda, nope, I'm not heading into the states. Though when I visisted Niagra Falls I did contemplate going over in a barrel as someone suggested to me. :)

That's a shame about the chats. Oh well, I hope you manage to get home access to the net eventually. Relying on the internet at work must make it hard to access everything you want.

maybe we could do something where we compile all the best quotes from all 3 books?

I think that would be about half of the books!

All the way to Cleveland. No, we'd rather have you posting with us rather than floating in Lake Erie.

That's what the lake's called. I spent the journey there trying to remember. :) I'm touched, Checkers.

I get that look whenever I venture to bring a Terry Pratchett book to read on the train. :)

Nice icon!

I did not know that, wow, it sounds like a pretty bad disaster.
