Hi!

I've finally finished exams (life can begin again!) and am just about to start re-re-re-(add as many as you want)-reading the Queen's Thief series, as I do every Christmas. This just made me wonder, does anyone else have a book or series (Queen's Thief or otherwise) that you traditionally read every holiday season?

Also, on a completely different note, I just downloaded the livejournal app for iphone but I can't figure out how to get it to load sounis. Anyone know?

[livejournal.com profile] sounis should just appear on your friends page when you check it - it does for me. Make sure that you don't have a filter set up. Under the friends tab, click "filter" in the top right corner and make sure your default has everything checked.

As for Christmas, I tend to re-read The Little House books around this time of year. I originally received my first set as a Christmas present when I was 8.

I used to be crazy about Little House re-reads. Haven't done it in a while, though. The last time I picked one up it was so different from how I remembered it.

I still love the books, but they're definitely different for me too now that I know more about Laura Ingalls Wilder's life.

I used to reread A Christmas Carol every year, but haven't in a long time. I did, however, just load the audiobook of ACoK onto my iPod for the long car ride tomorrow. Yum!

Oh no, you're reading The Knife of Never Letting Go during the holidays! So...sad...*weeps*

Seriously, it's an amazing series, but I don't think I've ever cried more.

Well, I finished the first book, and YES, what you said. Gah, do I go ahead and read the others? Really, I don't think anything worse can happen, at least in my mind. My favorite character, why did he have to do that??? *sob*

Not every holiday season, but I re-read The Perilous Gard every November, and I'm starting a tradition of re-reading The Lord of the Rings every summer.

Ooh. I think I may reread that tomorrow between tidying and cooking. It would fit my mood.

I don't think I really have any traditional yearly reads. It used to be that every September through mid-December was taken up by The Nutcracker, and I'm very tempted to listen to the music now, but that's the closest I can think of.

Oh. There is the not-quite-every-year-but-close-enough Christmas watching of Die Hard, I suppose.

hahaha, I watch Die Hard 1 and 2 at Christmas, too!

I tend to watch the Nutcracker ever year in prep for Christmas. I'm planning on watching it tonight! No books I traditionally read though. But I just got the Chrestomanci series from the library b/c of recommendations on sounis.

LOVE the Chrestomanci books!!! Unfortunately, most people I recommend them to don't seem to like them (even though the loved Howl), but I hope you like them.

I started reading The Lives of Christopher Chant, and I really like it so far!

I watch A Muppet Christmas Carol with my sister every year. Don't have a particular book I read, though.

Not any more because my sister has my copy, but I used to read The Dark Is Rising every Christmas. Because it takes place at Christmastime!

(Seriously, I love this series. If you haven't read it you should. I had a total crush on Will Stanton.)

Me too! I just read the first one, usually, because it's my favorite, but I still read it around Christmas-time.

In addition to the Thief novels, I also re-read every year The Curse of Chalion and To Say Nothing of the Dog, but not always around Christmas.

Hi, I just had to comment because you said the first Dark Is Rising book is your favorite. I love that one, too, but it doesn't seem to get much love on the internet. *hearts for Over Sea, Under Stone*

Oops, well, I actually did mean The Dark is Rising is my favorite, though I do like Over Sea, Under Stone. I thought that one was considered a prequel, or more of a standalone, so I wasn't counting it as first in the series. I just messed up because I actually read that one last. I looked up the series and Over Sea, Under Stone is listed as first, so my mistake! (c:

You know, I think I will reread Over Sea, Under Stone this Christmas, too!

I used to read the Hobbit and then Lord of the Rings starting just before Thanksgiving (late November) and then I'd usually finish around Christmas or New Year. The last couple of years have been too hectic though.

Aside from reading, my family always watches the "A Christmas Story" marathon every Christmas Eve.

I'm watching A Christmas Story right now.
The dad just opened the box...with a pry bar. :-P

It's a short story turned picture book, but I reread Rumer Godden's The Story of Holly and Ivy. And sometimes A Christmas Carol. If I can, I also watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Christmas Story.

I can't do reading traditions at all, whether it be around Christmas or Summer or whenever. I can't even follow a solid book list. I just read where ever I end up.

I suppose the one tradition I do follow is reading Ella Enchanted three times over whenever I reread it. But I don't think that qualifies as tradition, I just can't help myself.

I mostly fantasize about reading anything that is not school related.

I usually like to re-read a Squire's Tale ever Christmas break. Often a different one each time. Re-reading QT usually happens in the summer. This year I re-read TT after mid-terms, because I had just bought a first edition.

I don't have many re-reading traditions, because I usually use my breaks to catch up on reading books I've been wanting to try for awhile. This break I have a shelf full lined up.
