I believe this is a sign that my mind goes to strange places. One of the things that I wish I could do more often is bake and decorate cupcakes and this is especially fun when there's a theme involved.

This lead me to thinking about how I could represent characters from a favorite fandom in cupcake form. (I ended up talking about the idea with a friend for quite a while. It's quite fun.)

Of course, this lead me to ponder what kind cupcakes I would make to represent the Queen Thief characters. These are what I came up with so far:

Irene- orange chocolate with green frosting and red candies.
Helen- lemon with white frosting and some candy pearls sprinkled on.
Gen - dark chocolate, yellow frosting and a tiny candy cane sticking out at the top.
Sophos - Almond and honey, purple frosting with a marshmallow bunny on top.

That's as far as I have gotten. Points go to people who figure out the meaning in the decorations. XD

And thus, now I'm eager for a silly discussion. What kind of cupcakes would you guys pick to represent our favorite novel? XD

Red candies like the rubies in her jewelry? And (dare I say) a candy cane is a bit - hook-shaped. And the bunny for Sophos made me laugh :)

I can think of flavors

Gen: rocky road with side a of mint chocolate chip
Attolia: Orange sherbert
Eddis: Hot fudge sunday
Sophos: Apricot ;-) or pecan

I WANT THE SOPHOS CUPCAKE

NOW

PLEASE

The Magus wouldn't have a cupcake--he'd have an oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips and dried cranberries. I might have been tempted to give Helen chocolate frosting--but I can see it going both ways.

Okay, explain the Helen cupcake to me, because I just don't get it. It's all light and elegant when poor Eddis looks like a peacock or a boy unless Gen is dressing her, and I don't think Gen makes cupcakes well. I mean, she's a bit more steel than pearls, no?

But, yeah, Sophos Cupcake Love :)

And, yes, very Magus-y.

Ohhhhh. Hiamathes's Gift. XD
No, they don't make much candy that looks like river stones.

They do have little shiny silver balls that maybe you could get to look stony by soaking a bit first. Or, maybe, rock candy? Someone else just suggested that. I didn't think of it on my own.

Love Sophos, but Helen's is way too elegant. After I thought for a minute I like the lemon... maybe blue with rock candies?

Also, Gen's should have lots of decorative icing swirls, too. =)

Costis would be a carrot muffin with some plain icing. A modest and healthy choice, that's somewhat tasty, but not flashy.

While we're waiting for the next book & in a baking state of mind, try Kerry Greenwood's Corinna Chapman mysteries. The protagonist is a baker; her bakery, _Earthly Delights_, is the title of the first book. It's set in contemporary Melbourne [a character all its own], in the Best Apartment Building Ever, like a Roman insula. Cool characters and vivid descriptions of wonderful food abound. Her Phryne Fisher mysteries are also excellent.
