The readergirlz blog is talking about loyalty this month and their first featured book is A Conspiracy of Kings.  It comes with awesome words from  our favorite author and can be found here.

Is honesty always the best policy? Is patience always the best course of action? Should you stand by your man? Really?

I love her, I really do.

And this? Really, everything is more complicated than he thought. Sophos wants to trust his friend Gen not only with his life, but with the kingdom of Sounis. He’s more than a little surprised when his friend dumps that loyalty back into Sophos’s lap with a big “No, thank you.”

*sob* and *laugh* Oh, Gen.

Then he has to convince Gen to see things his way. Even if it means dumping Gen on his ass to do it.

WIN.

I feel like CofK is just getting us started on loyalty, since in the future we'll presumably have Gen attempting to save one country from a volcano while being king of another, and Costis's dreaded day when the king and queen send him in opposite directions.

Oh gosh. The second half of this comment is a lot less serious than the first. And a lot more gory. But would be really cool with Legos? See, Gen decides he can save the world by doing some crazy thing, and Eddis and Attolia are all, "You can't do that! You'll kill yourself!" and Gen's all, "I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT! Costis, lend me a hand!" and Attolia glares at him all, "Do not even think about lending him a hand." So he thinks, "What would Aulus and Boagus do?", rips off a hand, and holds it up above his head where Gen can't reach it. And everybody faints.

What would Aulus and Boagus do?
This is totally Costis's motto in life, when his default "What would Gen do?" fails him.

"What woudl Gen do?"

I think that motto default belongs to Sophos :-)

Oh, that's true. At least, at the beginning of CofK. At the end it might be "What would Attolia do?", which is a REALLY SCARY THOUGHT.

Very true. WWAD, is *clearly* Sophos's new motto

Gen: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, Sophos??

*cue backflash*

Sophos: *points Gun at Mede Ambassador* ....*ponders* What would Attolia do? *shoots*

xD

Lol!

Gen: Sophos! Why are you wearing bee earrings?
Sophos: Erm, what would Attolia do?

That line ("If I couldn't be Eddis, I would be Attolia") breaks my heart though. Sophos! *huggles*

I don't know if Sophos could really be Attolia any more than he could offend the gods with a pointy stick. But we will see.

Agreed. Costis thinks, "What would Gen do?" mostly in the "because I need to get there first and keep him from dying of it" sort of way.

This is brilliant! I already have a copy, which I've given to a friend.

The only downside of giving away your TT copy? I'm already experiencing withdrawal symptoms!

That is what the contest is for. : )
So that you can all go out and strong arm, um, wait, I mean persuade new people to read the book!
