A Conspiracy of Kings has won the Undead Poll in SLJ's Battle of the Books.

This means it will be going up against Keeper and The Ring of Solomon for the win.  It's all up to Richard Peck now.

Richard Peck will pick Keeper, I am much afraid -- but then Karen Cushman totally surprised me with her Bartimaeus pick so anything's possible!

I have to love that there are two historical fantasy novels in the Final Three, though. :D

I loved Keeper. Am rooting for Gen, but it won't break my heart if Keeper wins!

YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

I feel like CoK is superior to Solomon, although the last review of Solomon on BoB made me realize that Bartimaeus's shock-value to a new reader is pretty powerful. But Asmira was kind of more of a point than a compelling character, and there was a lot of her.

I have not read Keeper, but? The things the BoB judges keep raving about make it sound to me more like a museum piece or a literary lullaby than a book that would have rocked my world as a kid. I feel like the authors are kind of in awe of what the author did as an author. I am hoping that Peck will read CoK twice, and thus be in just as much awe!

THIS COMMENT ♥

I kept trying to figure out why I didn't like this book as much as the trilogy, and my main reason was that it wasn't as dark. Which bothered me a little, because what - I like darkness? That's a bit morbid. But it was also that Nathaniel - selfish as he was (kinda) - was a compelling character. And the way the two played off each other was what made the trilogy.

But yeah, Bartimaeus to a new reader? I remember the first book. MAN.

Whereas I liked R. of S. much, much more than the trilogy, because it wasn't so dark! which just goes to show...

Also, guys. Go to the main page, and there's a link to this post. They say we're gloating. Gloating!

Well... Maybe just a little.
