Let's Have Some Fun!!!! Sorta....
Jul. 7th, 2011 09:45 pmI am bored, so I made a crack-logic-fic. Hopefully it's not too hard. It's totally based off a *very* common problem called Knights and Knaves. I thought it might be fun to incorporate QT characters. Hehehehe....
It is a very special day in SEA. The queen of Attolia is expecting a gift from her husband. Likewise, Eddis is expecting a gift from her sweetheart, Sophos.
Surprisingly, an attendant presents to both of them three gifts instead of two: one in a green box, the second in a red one, and the third in yellow. The unexpected one comes from Nahuseresh. The attendant does not know which of the presents are from whom, but informs the queens that there is a message on each box written by the person who sent it. Strangely, the messages are merely clues.
Both the queens know that Sophos is an honest man and would never lie. Nahuseresh is their enemy and thus cannot be trusted to say something true, and Eugenides can either lie or tell the truth.
The green one says, “So, so, so… the yellow one is from Nahuseresh.”
The red one says, “Oh my lovely queen, Sophos sends the gift in green.”
The last one says, “Duh, this one is from Gen. It’s covered in yellow, dammit. BRIGHT YELLOW!!!”
After some thinking, Attolia decides that the green one is hers. Believing that Attolia is wrong, Helen also claims that green one is for her. Exactly one queen is wrong. Which one is correct?

Date: 7/8/11 04:49 am (UTC)I was thrown at first by the line "there is a message on each box written by the person who sent it," but then I figured that it could still work if Sophos didn't claim his box as his own and instead used his box to inform her of someone else's box. So it must be Sophos = green, because otherwise, he'd be lying by saying someone other than himself sent the box his message is on. The red one agrees with him, so it must be Gen. And that leaves yellow, claiming to be Gen but really lying... Nahuseresh!
Exciting! This is very clever, and I wouldn't mind getting some more QT puzzles :)

Date: 7/8/11 01:03 pm (UTC)Hehe, I was required to do a WHOLE course on it. Which is fun, I guess, until we got to more complicated proof structures.

Date: 7/8/11 01:08 pm (UTC)You're partially right about the proof, but I think you thought further than you had to. ^^ If you assume that Sophos sent the red one, then it would be a contradiction because he never lies; so he would never say that he sent the green one. ^^ Same thing with the yellow; Sophos can't say it because he won't claim himself as Gen. Therefore he must have sent the green one!

Date: 7/8/11 01:25 pm (UTC)Yay, I used the same logic as you did trying to work this out and make sure it's right. ^__^
Alrighty, I guess I'll have to make more. =)

Gen would never give Attolia anything green because green reminds them of dress she wore the day she chopped off his hand.
Sophos is too nice to say dammit/ use more than one exclamation mark ;)
Red is a very Attolia color because of her rubies.
Although Nahuseresh is a clever boy for remembering about the canary colors.

Date: 7/10/11 09:32 pm (UTC)You know, the only colour I intended to put in there was yellow, just because it seemed Gen-like. I didn't even know that the other colours could be used to figure out the puzzle. Hehe.
Now that I think about it, Attolia should have immediately ruled out the green one, ne?
