Someone on my facebook feed just posted this yesterday:

"Hurricane Irene,
I hope I've just made the first
haiku about you."

Of course, I thought of Attolia.

I am awaiting her arrival--she doesn't sound very "peaceful".

I'm sure she's heralding the arrival of a new book. *nods*

I laughed when I heard the name, too! Then realized I probably shouldn't, if it's about to live up to the name. =/

I've been chuckling about that all week. It's an apt name, and she seems to be living up to it!

I'm thinking maybe the hurricane resents it's name as much as the queen!

Wouldn't that be nice :)

I had the same thought when I heard the name. And laughed. I mean how apt right? Now my parents are headed to my house because they live in eastern VA and didn't want to be stuck without power. Halfway here they heard their town has just been placed under a mandatory evacuation. My parents' town is never under a mandatory evacuation, even when Isabel came through and nearly destroyed it. So yes, definitely living up to her name.

Us too. We're supposed to get soaked this weekend :(

I'd so much rather Attolia Irene than Hurricane Irene. Not looking forward to this weekend, must admit.

Wow, I hope everything turns out ok at your parents' place.

No effects of Irene up here in Ontario yet...

"Like falling in love with a landslide..."

...or a hurricane.

Hopefully the real Irene turns out to be like Attolia Irene under the influence of Eugenides: a little softer and less torturous.

So you too, huh? Good, 'cuz I thought I was missing something big.

Haha! That's cute! And I know, when I saw the name on the news my mind instantly went to QT.

It's working! Gen is calming Irene's fury!
(Though the weathermen won't tell you this yet, the winds have gone down nearly 20 mph!)

Yeah, maybe he sent Costis to ask her to reconsider!!

Indeed -- I have been wanting to make that joke all day, as I desperately tried to find a flashlight, bought candles, matches, water, etc!

Perhaps Sounisians would consider repeating the prayer to Hephestia in hopes of appeasing Irene's wrath against us Eastern Seaborders?

Indeed, I'm going to try the invocation of hephestia as my basement floods. Life in New York, sigh.

Yes, and as the womping willow at the end of our street takes the power out!

Well, she wasn't so bad in central NC. Winds, rain, and power outage. The drive here from PA was quite interesting, however.

The joke here was that with a name like Irene, how could it not be destructive? We've been snickering up our sleeves for days.

Now I'm hearing the song "Rock You Like A Hurricane." I hope everyone's okay.
