Some of you may have already known this but Eugenides has an Uncyclopedia page...of sorts. Er, just thought some of you would find it...interesting.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] openedlocket the reason this post didn't show up in sounis for many hours is because it included a link to Uncyclopedia, which apparently is not one of LJ's "whitelisted" sites. I had to go in and approve it. Weird. Never had that happen before.

Anyway, the Uncyclopedia site seems safe, albeit pretty bizarre.

Oh, great. Yet more evidence that the world abounds with deeply stupid people with too much time on their hands.

Obviously joking around, trying very hard to be amusing, not succeeding very well.

And yet, as I browsed, I felt the urge to read the books again because Gen, Irene, and Costis are so awesome. Unencyclopedia mission unaccomplished!

This is what happens to people who don't find Sounis. Unable to handle the awesomeness of QT on their own, THEY GO MAD ! And such gibberish is a result.

That was just weird. I don't know why you'd ever write something like that.

Ahahah wow.

This must be the Queen's Thief version of My Immortal (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/MyImmortal?from=Main.MyImmortal)

I'm guessing it's written by someone hyperactive who had to read the books for school.

Haha true! I never had to either, though I did read the Thief because it was on my classroom bookshelf (before my best friend, whose mother had donated it, quietly stole it back...).

Reading things for school is a mixed blessing, though. Classes have ruined a few good books. For instance, my sister was convinced the Eagle of the Ninth was horrible, because her teacher had made them stop every fine seconds to look up "difficult" words in the dictionary. Talk about missing the point of reading!

I really like Uncyclopedia sometimes. That was a funny article, thanks for linking.

Is this a parody site of Wiki? Either way, that's not terribly funny, and I'm usually a fan of outrageous crack!

I think I'll stick with TV Tropes. At least, they're actually funny!

I guess the problem with this is there is no affection shown for the series, just weirdness. Thus, it's not funny or even mildly amusing, compared to your crack or mine or Check's, which, even while poking fun at the characters, still shows an affection and respect for them.

Crack should make you laugh and love a series even more, not make you cringe and want to throw some ink pots at a wall.

That was not crack - it was mockery. BIG difference.

It definitely comes across as mockery, though someone thought they were being funny.

Oh yeah, I saw that awhile ago. I guess I'll have to go reread the boat scene again -- I somehow missed the whales circling. :S

Yeah, pretty weird. Pretty weird.

I only read the quick summary and I thought it was weird. Obviously someone didn't get the subtelty.

Yes, it's a parody. And ....

From the home page:

Welcome to Uncyclopedia (http://mirror.uncyc.org/wiki/Main_Page),
the content-free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

It's not a serious site. It's the very opposite of a serious site. It's a site for silliness.

Yes, but it isn't good silliness, it's just stupidity.

A parody that misses its mark that badly is just useless.

Now, Legotollia: *that's* good parody!

Yeah. I think the difference is that, while the real Wikipedia is of a straightforward nature and the average person is fairly good at being straightforward, the Wikipedia-parodying site is also open to the general Internet-going public---and not everyone is good at being funny. Or at least, funny according to anyone outside their circle of friends who share their inside jokes and sense of humor... myself included, I think.

Also that Uncyclopedia is kind of like a snowball: articles with jokes that fall flat for 80% of the population will naturally only attract the 20% that actually found them funny, who will go on to write more articles with the same type of humor.

As for Legotolia, it goes without saying! :)
