Secret Santa Surprise

At the end of the fairy tale challenge, some of you may remember I mentioned that I was planning a surprise for the holidays. Now, I know we still haven't even had Halloween yet, but I thought I should give you guys a heads up.

For the holidays, I'm attempting to run this community's first Online Secret Santa I've seen this done for other LJ communities and it's really fun. However, it keep everything nice and organized the actual secret santa is going to be held over at qt_secretsanta You don't have to join that community to take part in and I shall be making posts here announcing when signs ups and the gift giving periods are starting, but I suggest you at least watch the community to make it easier to keep track.

The idea is this: This is a secret santa where people can play secret santa with online gifts, such as fanfics, fanart, etc. When the time comes for sign ups, I shall make a post and people leave a comment filling out a brief questionaire that I'll have. (Your favorite character, your likes and dislikes, etc). Once that's done, I shall randomlly select and privately message each person to tell them who their giftie is, but you keep it secret. When the gift giving period starts, people will reply to the gift giving posts with their name in the comments and their secret santa replies anonymously to their comment with a link to their gift.

At the end of all this, I reveal all the secret santas to everyone. ^_^

Do I have to give out my mailing address for this?

Nope, this is a virtual exchange and thus everything is done online. So, don't worry, we don't need anyone's mailing addresses. The most you might have to give out is your email address, but that's it. Everything should be able to be done on LJ.

I want to take part, but I can't write or draw fanart

The gift doesn't have to be a fanfic or fanart. The gift can be as simple as a couple of icons, a banner for their LJ, a fan soundtrack on their favorite character, anything as long as you can give it to him/her online. There will be more details on how to do this on the day of the sign ups.

So, what do you guys think? Does anyone have another other questions?

This is a great idea, and it sounds like alot of fun. I look forward to participating - As long as my Math class doesn't absorb all of my remaining free time, which it is trying very hard to do ;)

This sounds like a great, fun idea. I hope I can at least look at some of the gifts given to other people, even if I don't participate. I, unfortunately, am hopelessly unadept or inadept or pathetic at being adept at doing anything remotely tech-related. Ask kindigo (who seems to have disappeared, unfortunately, for the most part?). She helped me make a very very very simple icon, once, out of the goodness of her heart. It took me SIX HOURS!!!!!

Yeah, so I am disqualified from participating in this event. But I'd like to pretend, ya know, kinda share, or whatever? Maybe read a fic or two?

Most likely, after the secret santas are revealed everyone will be posting what they did.

*thinks* But maybe there's something else you could do like record a reading of a chapter of one of the books? The gift just has to be able to be given online is the only thing. You can always do a fansound track too (picking songs that would fic a person's favorite character). All you need are MP3s and be able to zip them into a file to upload them to megaupload/rapidshare, etc. I can always give you a hand with that (and I'm sure dqbunny would be willing to help too if we ask her.)

AHAHAHAHA!!!!! That was all gibberish to me, but you're so sweet! I forgot you're dqbunny's friend, too. She helped me quite a bit. It just so happens that my computer JUST DIED. It won't recharge.
