Joining the Fanart Wave

So, with the encouragement (and dare) of booksrgood4u I've decided to post a fanart dump too. (Make sure to check hers out too!) I think some of you may have seen some of them somewhere, and I think I posted one before, but I just decided to post them as a group of my 2011 fanarts.

So, here's Gen!! Heehee. I'm posting the lineart, because I was hoping to see if anyone would be interested in colouring it. I've CG'd it too, but wasn't completely satisfied, so I'm wondering if anyone else would like to try.

Queen of Attolia

I think some of you may have seen this before from either DA or ninedaysaqueen 's journal, who was kind enough to post it there. I think it's the fanart that I've spent longest making, only because it was a lot of firsts: first time using a tablet, first time using Corel, first time making a really big fanart, first time not using vectors, etc, etc. Haha. As a matter of fact, by the time the 4.5 weeks were up, I just didn't want to look at it anymore, haha. But I'm still quite proud of it.

I believe I posted this before. ^^ But I guess for the new people who haven't seen it? It's a mock-screenshot of a fake anime-style "The Thief". Haha... we can dream, right?

And finally, this is my gift for my Secret Santa. She asked for something where Irene was being sweeter to Gen. So I made a ficcy, and added this fanart. I like the overall mood, but there are a few small things that I wish I've added or edited. =D



Well, there you go! I hope you guys enjoyed it. ^__^ I'd love to hear feedback from you guys, any comments, opinions, criticism, flames, lol! Since I'm quite unable to make art that is not huge, you guys can actually click on the pictures and zoom in quite closely for details. Well, some details are worth looking at, and others not so much.

Anyway, I hope you like it!

Yay! You did it!! You know I love them all...I was just noticing how nicely you did the fabric on all of these, it looks very real...especially on Attolia's Dress and little Gen's clothes...very nice :D

Yup I did it! Hehe. Thanks for the encouragement. Ah, I actually cheated on the dresses, hehe... the patterns are just brushes that I downloaded.

Wow. How did you do that? Did you draw it by hand or use the computer. I have a friend who can hook up this electronic pad to her computer and draw her art straight onto the screen (that way you don't get any smudging and it's WAY easier to color large items).

Well, the QoA one was initially drawn by hand, but the rest are drawn using a tablet. I use Wacom Bamboo Pen, and it's very flexible and efficient with giving you what you want. ^^

What's a Wacom Bamboo Pen? And the tablet, is it electronic? I mean, how do you get your drawings to look so crisp and computer-ized? Watercolor pencils just don't get that effect.

I own the one with the green box. Yup, basically you hook it up to your computer, like your friend does. I think to get your drawings to look so detailed is for you to give it a high resolution. So when you're making a file in a program, like Photoshop, or in my case GIMP, you give it 300dpi. 72 would be a low resolution, and high resolution is usually 300dpi.

Actually, if you zoom into the actual size of any of my drawings, you'll see the lines are actually not very clean and crisp! They're kinda messy, but since the resolution is high, when the picture is not zoomed in, you don't notice the messiness. ^^ Also, when you use a software, you can choose the kind of pen or pencil effect you want. There's the usual HB pencils which give a rougher feel, but if you use something like ink, it's smoother. =D

Very neat! The screen shot looks real--I mean, not just the letterboxing and the subtitles but the composition and the character design as well! I like your very Japanese-looking Irene, too--pretty enough, and kind of intimidating, too. :D

Hehe, the screencap was definitely fun to make. I always imagine scenes from the books I read in screencap formats. ^__^ Oh yeah, I was afraid she looked too Asian, considering she's supposed to be Mediterranean. Oh well.

Yay!! It's actually very true though... if any of these men were real, I'd just fall head over heels with him. Now, if I get all three of them wrapped into one, well, then that's just too good to be true.

Yeah, these boys are some of the most underrated male leads in YA/Children fantasy literature. That's okay though, I have less competition!!

Aw thank you!! Most of the clothes I've looked up in Byzantine had some kind of cape at the back, so I ended up drawing one for Gen too. ^^

Geric is the love interest in "Goose Girl" by Shannon Hale, which is my favourite book alongside KoA. Mairelon is a magician from "A Matter of Magic" by Patricia Wrede, which also is one of my favourite books now. I mean, they're totally cool by themselves, but you know... when you add them up together, they'll be even better, I bet! ^__~
