Last semester I took a class on Children’s Literature at the University of Toronto.  I spoke to the professor a few times, and really advocated for MWT’s books to be added to the book list! She was familiar with the series and with MWT and ended up adding The Queen of Attolia to the book list this semester! YAY!

I don’t think I can make it,  but on Tuesday March 27th from 6-9 she will be lecturing on Howl’s Moving Castle and The Queen of Attolia.I think it would be really interesting to see what she points she chooses to lecture about, as there is so many different directions that she could take! If it's something you think you can make, let me know and I'll send you the class information :)

EDIT: Professor Baker has been made aware of us and has officially welcomed us to the lecture. She just asks that you email her (df.baker@utoronto.ca ) /speak with her before class if you are going to attend, so she knows who is in the class and who isn't. If you are planning on recording her, please speak with her first (and ask permission!) Thanks!

Which campus? I'm at St. George... (although I doubt I will be able to attend either way....) but I have a friend who's taking it this semester, and I'll see if I can ask her for a recording. =)

If it really is St. George, then I'll be SO excited, because I'll be taking Children's Lit next semester! Hopefully she doesn't change her mind and take it off.

Btw, since you go to St. George too, might as well ask... Do you take any other English courses there? I need a couple half-courses over the summer, and I was wondering which ones might be good.

Yay! Then I shall definitely be taking Fantasy and Horror. Wish they had a Dickens course; that's the only book I really liked in my current English class.

No, I actually don't have a first year English credit. I skipped to second year. I'm required to follow the new program, so maybe the changed it? The only requirements to be in English Minor program is 4.0 full year credits.

Just out of curiosity, why do they group Fanstasy with Horror? Usually it's grouped with Sci-fi.

Hmm, I really don't know why. I was wondering that too, but Sci-fi has its own course. Seems to me as if Fantasy should have had its own too...

Holy wow, that is awesome that you did that! Congratulations! And welcome? Have I seen you here before? If I have, sorry, heh heh, my memory stinks as TOS (The Oldest Sounisian), but if I haven't, welcome to Sounis, and what a way to de-lurk! I finally got one of my friends to read the books and like them, but you are opening them up for lots and lots of people! Go you!

It would have been so awesome if you've gotten a prof at U Waterloo to do that, i would be sooo skipping class to jump into that lecture instead though english not my major. I have friends at UTSG, and a friend in English there - I tell them about it, if they are interested. What the prof's name? Building?

sadly, they most likely won't attend. One of them said they already had taken the class with that prof before and had heard the Howl's Moving Castle lecture. Apparently she has a column in The Star if she hasn't told you about that.

You guys will be on your best behavior, right? Because I'll hear from Deirdre if there are any questions from the back about goat feet and underwear.
