Nominate The Best Young Adult Novels
Jun. 18th, 2012 09:54 amNPR is giving readers a chance to nominate what they consider to be the best young adult novels of all time. You're allowed up to five entries and a series counts as one entry (the example they gave is that you'd nominate the Hunger Games SERIES, not each book one at a time).
Sounisians, I see an opportunity. Go!

Date: 6/21/12 09:53 pm (UTC)I'm really not sure if I should vote. I don't know enough YA books, I think, and I'm so clearly biased, lol. XD

Date: 6/21/12 10:38 pm (UTC)Books like Ella Enchanted are classified as both Children's and YA. Even the Healing Wars is considered childrens though my library has it as YA. THe Truth Series is in YA at my library and Adult in the bookstore.
I put it there any way because I like it and it needs more fans. I don't know if that's against the rules, but I doubt that it'll be winning any popular votes because of my comment, so the best I can hope for is to get some people to read it!
I would go ahead and vote anyway. I know I'm jaded, but in my opinion my favorites are the best, and other people are voting there opinions, too. At least show Gen some love =D

Date: 6/21/12 11:14 pm (UTC)My suggestions were:
The Queen's Thief series (of course)
The Graceling series by Kristin Cashore
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
The Book Thief by Markus Zadusak
The Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery
I tried very hard to pick books that I not only thoroughly enjoyed but also that I felt had really earned the distinction of "best young adult novel of all time." Others at NPR, I noticed, were picking books that just came out this year. My only exception is Code Name Verity, because it's one of those rare books that just screams instant classic. That and it made me cry.
