Her expression in the picture above is more "I will cut your other hand off", but I think Katie could play a softer, more vulnerable side as well.

I don't doubt her as an actress, but I was talking about looks in general. Katie's face has very sharp features, and I always pictured Attolia's cheeks a little bit rounder, her face a little softer...but still able to be her usual fierce Attolia-ness.

There is a quality of Irene that is SO vulnerable. Every time her "mask" is mentioned... it says again how what is inside could not be more opposite than her outside and her actions have shown...

My favorite headcanon illustrations of Irene are the ones that show her beautiful, fierce and yet simultaneously heartbreakingly frightened and so utterly lost and sad.

Those moments in QOA..
where she suddenly experiences "irrational fear" as the minister of war lifts her off her horse...
where she longs for her nurse to chase the shadows away...
