LTUE or Woo-hoo!

Had to create a new LJ account. Okay.

Went to LTUE and got to meet Megan. Just as you'd expect from a person who writes very cool books, MWT is a very cool person ("cool" being a literary term obviously borrowed from academia)(MWT being pronounced "mwhit"). As a logical corollary, the Sounisians I met were great. Thanks especially to Heather, Kim, Susan, Steve, and Bonnie for seat-saving and camaraderie, not to mention wit (being "mwhit" without the m). The whole conference was wonderful, actually. Happy sigh.

As for persistent not telling, well, you know the drill. But there was a surprising half second of relenting in the matter of the map.

It was great to see you there! And yes! Even more surprising is the fact that she's *tried* to make a map before (perhaps this is new to me only). But then she said in her keynote that it keeps looking like Middle Earth to her and then she has to stop. Or something to that degree. But there is no lack of editor pressure for her to make one either, apparently.

Yeah, I don't think she will, and I can see why. But I think she said that her editor keeps pressuring her, and she suspects her editor will win out someday. That last bit is my half second reference!

I somehow came away from the books with a very clear image of the landscape in my mind, and it was strikingly alike to the map someone (several someones? I can't remember who...the cool people on Sounis) put together once. (Anyone still have that handy?) So I'd be interested to see what MWT's vision is and how the two compare.

Isn't our authoress elegant? I mean, we know Gen is in there somewhere, but when I met her I felt more like one of the young foppish attendants standing dumbstruck in the presence of the impossibly elegant Queen of Attolia. Then again I can picture her flicking her wine at me for saying something so silly.

Huzzah for Sounisians! I really love this fandom... it's not quite like any other I've encountered.
