The Book of Kells is up for view online:

http://digitalcollections.tcd.ie/home/index.php?DRIS_ID=MS58_003v

You can zoom in & out; the level of detail & the colors are amazing!

Do we know anything about manuscript art or illumination in the QT books?

That is so cool! I used to do Celtic knotwork art and a lot of the designs were from the Book of Kells, though I'd never actually looked at the originals.

I suppose some of those books Gen treasured so highly in his library room could have been picture books. :)

OMG, Thank you for posting this! My Art History professor challenged me last semester to find four mice in this Chi-Rho-Iota page and I *still* haven't found those darn mice! Do you happen to know what page the Chi-Rho-Iota is on? My textbooks says it Folio 34 Recto, but I couldn't find it in the page numbers....
Thanks again!

Oh, I got to see the Book of Kells when I visited Trinity College a few years ago. It was the same vacation that I got to meet up with (in Oxford) [livejournal.com profile] rowana , [livejournal.com profile] emerald_happy , [livejournal.com profile] emmaco , and [livejournal.com profile] hebe0 . Best vacation EVER.

Oh, it was. Plus, I dream about the food at the Turf Tavern--best meal in all of England.

YOU WERE THE ONE WHO RECOMMENDED IT AND YOU WERE RIIIIIIGHT. I took a picture of the pathway to the door and it is hanging on my wall. I sigh when I look at it.

So I'm not the only one who's stalked Sounis to the UK? Mind the Gap...indeed.
