So this is probably a silly question, but why is this community called Sounis and not Eddis or Attolia? How did the creators decide to call it Sounis? Nothing against the country or anything, but it is the least talked about country in the series. Thanks!

I had no part in creating the com, but I imagine that the other possible names were already taken when the creator made it, and Sounis was the best available. Just a guess though! :)

That's not a stupid question at all! I think the community was named by [livejournal.com profile] rowana, but I'm not sure if she's still around. Honestly, I have no idea why she picked Sounis! (Maybe because it is more important in the first book? When the community was created, only the first two books were out.)

I think this is somewhere in the archives actually. The name of the group is Sounis, Eddis and Attolia but then got shortened to "Sounis" which is what we all just call it right now!

I wonder if we would have a different vibe if we all called ourselves "Eddis"

Also I think it works because when we are *first* introduced to Gen, he's in Sounis ;-{)

Also welcome to the com!

I think there's this running gag where the king of Sounis writes fanfiction in which he is the victorious leader who wins Eddis's heart. And it probably snowballed from there :))

You mean the fanfic in which he defeats Gen and Helen and Irene think he's so cool they mud wrestle over him. XD

It's not a stupid question. Many of us have been asking it for years! XD

However, the truth is a little boring. The comm is named Eddis, Sounis, Attolia and at the time the comm was founding, there were two members by the username of Eddis and Attolia. Everyone ended up referring to the comm as Sounis for short instead of Eddis or Attolia, so no confusion was caused about whether you were referring to the comm or one of those two members.

As you can see, the name stuck.

Welcome! I wondered that when I first joined, as well, and remember the answer being just as ninedays described above.

Ok, here's the part of the story I know of. I was a shy lurker back then. Someone named Eddis set up the community and called it "Eddis, Attolia, Sounis and Gen," and then almost immediately wandered away, returning only a few times after the first couple of weeks. Rowana is the one who actually moderated, organized the site, and got everything going. No one has any idea why Eddis called the comm "Sounis." Not sure even she knows.

Gosh, I remember the first time Megan emailed Ro; it was such fun. :) You can find all that in the archives.

If you say so, Checks, but picturing our revered reprobate wrangler as shy & retiring is severely straining my suspension of disbelief.

I was totally shy and retiring. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
