Well, you are in luck!  Megan Whalen Turner will be the keynote speaker at the Chattanooga Public Library's annual meeting.  You can go and listen, and "Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served in a relaxed, reception-type atmosphere."  So you've got that going for you.

Her topic will be "The importance of teaching kids how to judge books so that we can trust them to choose their own reading material by the time they are teens."  Read all about it here.

Hmm - looking at the map to check a route, I see that just north of Chattanooga is a place called "Soddy-Daisy." I wonder what the origin of that name is.

I'm in Atlanta, just three hours south. You need to be there, so we can meet & hang out & gawk at mwt together. You know you're an obsessed fan when you're willing to sit through mindless business meetings to meet awesome authors & their clever fans. Are you available for dinner? Are you close enough to the library to scope out a good place in advance?

I wish I could go, but I have just had to take some days off because my mom had surgery, and I if I took another day off it would need to be to stay with mom. Darn, darn, darn!!!

Last February at the LTUE event in Utah I saw filking on the schedule and went in your honor, just to see what all the fuss is about. And who should walk in just after me? MWT. She came for the same reason. It was a rollicking good time, even though I couldn't muster up the courage to break out my mountain dulcimer and jump in. But I sang with tuneless gusto!

Hey, the whole government has shut down for lesser cause. It has to work somehow. Two little bitty days of understaffing...what's that in the larger scheme of things? We're talking LIFE memories, here. Thursday to drive down, free hotel stay with the BookishBabe ( I promise to be endlessly entertaining) and Friday to get back. You could just work through Christmas to make it up....
