Hello! I called myself Furem here on a whim, which was not such a good idea because everywhere else on the internet I'm Josiphine--it makes it difficult to remember. I love the 'Queen's Thief' series (KoA is my favorite, I think). I first read them about a month ago, and I have read each of them probably ten times since then. For the first two weeks I just read them over and over and over (it wreaked havoc on my philosophy class). I've always liked books with thieves, and Gen is the absolute best.

Beyond that: I read too much and it has turned my brain; I want to write children's books when I grow up; I collect languages (Albanian is my favorite); I play the accordion, and the piano, badly.

Favorite books (other than those already listed): Walden, Les Miserables, The Chronicles of Narnia, Betsy-Tacy, The Lord of the Rings, everything Lloyd Alexander wrote, Anne of Green Gables, Code Name Verity, Huckleberry Finn, The Odyssey, Persuasion....(I own upwards of four hundred books so this is a very limited list.)

Hello, I'm Anna, I'm new too... but, Welcome to Sounis! I love almost everything on your list, but who is Lloyd ALexander? I don't believe I've heard of him. KoA is my favorite too.

Lloyd Alexander was a beautiful human being with a fantastic nose who wrote The Prydain Chronicles (among other books), based heavily on the mythology he learned about and fell in love with while he was stationed in Wales during WWII. He belongs to that post-Inklings generation of children's fantasy authors and I simply cannot recommend his books enough, I love them so much! They are full of humor and meaningful friendships and life lessons and Celticy stuff.

The Prydain Chronicles, in order:
The Book of Three
The Black Cauldron
The Castle of Llyr
Taran Wanderer
The High King

There's also a companion book of short stories called The Foundling.

Alexander passed away in '07, and I still regret not sending him a fan letter, as I heard he was very good about responding. How I would have treasured a letter from him!

Thanks so much, I will definitely check them out, I'm rather at a loose end right now as far as books are concerned. I'm waiting for Finnikin of the Rock to come in at my library right now, I've heard such good things about it from Queen's Thief fans, and I'm in desperate need of some good writing. Lloyd Alexander sounds like just the kind of author I love.

Alas, I don't know any Albanian. But I've been a language geek all my life, and a linguist my whole career, and so at least I know its name for itself, and approximately how to say it. (And another member of my synagogue does know it, having learned it in the Peace Corps.)

(So I used Google Translate to get a sense of your post. And it translated it as – are you ready? –

Oh, yes, I gave them a bit of feedback on that! But that's what you get from statistical MT (machine translation).
)

PS: I luvz yer icon. I get along well with librarians. I was married to one all her life.

I collect languages...

Wow! You'd make a great Keeper!! Keepers are people who collect cool stuff like biographies and religions and shtuff. (You'd probably know a little more of what I'm babbling about if you've picked up Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. XD)

Anyway, welcome!!! Make yourself at home. Have some cake. And tea. KoA is my favourite too!

Hi, and welcome! My favorite of the series is QoA but KoA is a very close second.

PS
My bro-in-law is Albanian but as he is now on his 5th language (English, the one right before being Italian and the one before that Spanish and the one before that... well, you get the picture:) I have only ever heard him speak English and Italian. Even with his own brother (who we all met and hung out with in Italy) he speaks Italian... though it is not the first language of either of them. They collect languages, too, I guess. I'm impressed with such a useful collection habit.

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting
my own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get set up?
I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty
penny? I'm not very internet smart so I'm not
100% certain. Any tips or advice would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you byroncadman@gmail.com

Welcome! And, Yay, Betsy-Tacy! Do you know about the Betsy-Tacy Society and that they own Betsy's and Tacy's original houses in Mankato, MN?

Welcome! I do wonder, how does one go about 'collecting' languages?
