Re-fancasting Eugenides

Hey everyone,

It been a while since I've posted here, but as always I've still been around keeping up with everyone else's wonderful posts.

The last time I made a post here, you may remember (probably not), it was to put forward my fancasting ideas for Eugenides and Irene. Christian Alexander and Katie McGrath were my choices for that post. Katie hasn't changed, she will always be Irene to me, but recently I've found someone who I feel is a better casting for everyone's favourite thief.

I've been watching the new BBC series The Musketeers, and right away, Luke Pasqualino (playing D'artagnan) struck me as being uncannily Eugenides-like. He's got the ability to act sarcastically, and petulantly, and he's got sword and pistol skills to boot. He even looks more like Gen than Christian, as Gen is describes as having olive-toned skin, which Christian hasn't got.

I made a photoset over on tumblr putting Katie and Luke side by side as the King and Queen of Attolia. I'd put the pics up here, but alas, I still haven't figured out how to do it from my iPad. So I'll provide the link to the tumblr post for you, and you can take a look if you like.

Oh, yes, I could totally see that, though I actually favor Aure Atika as Irene. They'd have to hurry though, as she's getting a little bit old. My vote for Gen is Colin Morgan, but I can be rather fangirlish about Merlin so...my opinion probably isn't viable. My sister and I agree that Bradley James could be Costis, :).

So funny that you posted this, as Katie McGrath and Luke Pasqualino have long been my mental images of Irene and Gen. As an actress, Katie is maybe not quite as poised as I picture Attolia, but that's a small thing. I've never actually seen Luke act, but I came across his picture a while back and immediately thought Gen!

I could see Bradley James as Sophos. For Costis, I picture someone more classically-soldier-like, if that makes sense. Like Channing Tatum in the The Eagle--though the example is a little cringe-worthy (best I could think of, off the top of my head).

Annnd I was just looking at my own icon when it struck me: Michelle Dockery wouldn't make a half-bad Attolia. She has the femme fatale down.

Agreed!! I was actually just going to suggest her! She has the look and the attitude -- and her voice is perfect, too.

I also really like the woman who played her sister, Sybil. (The "Edith" actress is also great but would be SO wrong).

And actually, my sister and I were just watching a DS9 show -- what about Terry Farrell, who plays the Dax character? Of course, she's way too old now -- but as she was then, she could have done it!

That's pretty cool! I think that Katie did a pretty great job with being poised and regal in earlier episodes of Merlin. As for Luke, I had never seen him act until The Musketeers, but he's been doing a really good job so far.

Don't you think that Bradley James is a little bit...big for Sophos? I thought Sophos was a little guy.

I've always found casting Sophos is really difficult. I personally feel like Bradley is too strong/big/action-y for at least book 1 Sophos. I've always imagined Sophos as a bit scrawnier, and still pretty lean even after the muscles and fighting skills he gets.

I haven't seen Luke in anything, but he does look about right! Has the right coloring, and that snarky-readiness to his mouth. :) I know Aneurin Barnard was suggested before too, and I loooove the guy, but he's already getting a tad too old to be Gen (and he's too tall).

And yeah, I just started watching Merlin, and Katie McGrath is totally Irene to me.

Since Downton Abbey was mentioned, would Laura Carmichael (Edith) work as Helen? Facially I think she might, but I don't know if she's got the action skills. :)

He's not necessarily too tall, in my opinion. Luke Pasqualino is taller than Aneurin, but there's always movie/TV magic to fix up the heights. As for Laura Carmichael, I personally feel like she wouldn't have the right colouring (especially if Gen and Eddis are cousins), or necessarily the roughness to be Eddis.

True, she's very English in coloring. Hmm. She's one of the hardest parts for me to picture! Will keep looking around.

I picture Eddis smaller, less queenly in physical stature than Attolia. Someone like Parminder Nagra might work, though I can't think of any actress that perfectly fits my mental image of Eddis.

I have yet to get a clear picture in my head of Eddis, so she's a hard one for me to cast. But maybe I'll know her when I see her! :)
