My holiday gift list is done!  Here is what I'm asking Santa for:

Just a few books!  Or a few hundred.

What books are you hoping to find in your stocking this year?  What new books are you most hoping to read next year?  (Well, other than Highly Anticipated Unamed Book 5 With No Actual Publication Date As Yet.)

C'mon.  Have a seat on Santa's lap and whisper in his ear.  If Santa has a forked red beard, beware.

I want a Costis mini-story. A Very Costis Christmas, or something. Anything to tide us over and offer us reassuring hints as to his whereabouts. Pretty please?

I'd also like a box set of The Lord of the Rings, so that my old beloved one-volume edition (long ago stolen from my brother and never returned 0:) can go into a well-earned retirement. Its pages are falling out. And it's heavy. My problem is: I can never decide which paperbacks to buy. The covers are all so pretty. Help me choose?

I'm not sure if this counts, but I want the current and the new episodes of The Hollow Crown. I love seeing Shakespeare come to life!

Other than that I would like some surprises in the new year...there's nothing like discovering a new favorite, and it's been far too long since I've come across a new book that really did it for me.

You should get the editions with the covers Tolkien painted himself. Meseems it'd feel more authentic.

Methinks the same. I'm actually really in love with the UK editions, but I'm not sure how one goes about ordering from amazon UK when you live in the states. Is it as easy as it looks, or...?

I've never tried, but it seems like they'd be plenty anxious to take your money.

Please and thank you

This is a long shot, but if anyone here at Sounis knows of or ever comes across a place where I can obtain these editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I'd be most grateful for the info! :)

They are the 2001 paperback editions, published by Houghton Mifflin for the Quality Paperback Book Club, featuring cover design by Grey Thornberry and original cover illustrations by Tolkien, as seen here (sans spaces): http://w ww.openculture.com/2013/02/discover_jrr_tolkiens_per sonal_book_cover_designs_for_ithe_lord_of_the_ringsi_tril ogy.ht ml

I came by the green Two Towers one secondhand, and would LOVE to complete the set.

The number for book 1 is 9780965307758 ; the number for book 3 is 9780965307796.

If you input either number at bookfinder dot com, you get copies starting at 3.00-3.50, including shipping. The site clearly shows the pictures in question.

Hth.

Happy New Year!

You're all kinds of welcome. bookfinder dot com and abebooks dot com are useful resources to know about [aside from me, of course ;)]. If you're in the US, paperbackswap dot com [& sister sites swapacd and swapadvd] are also quite useful, especially if you're looking to get rid of stuff.

Done! Ordered! In transit! Goodness, let 2015 be the year that bookfinder waltzed into my life and romanced me. :)

I was aware of other online sources but had trouble tracking down specific editions. This is definitely a new resource for me. Thanks again!!

That's how we roll over in Sounis; we get up to all kinds of facilita-trix for each other.

My wish was Tamora Pierce's book about Numair, but alas, it seems we shall have to wait another year.

Only, in Pierce's case, instead of "while she knits", it's "while she kits." [A load of feral kittens was dumped at her house, & she's socializing them for adoption & taking donations for their medical expenses over on her tumblr.]

For a blast from the Pierce past to tide you over, I enthusiastically recommend markreads.net. His past videos and commentary [with comments!] are archived there. He's finished all the Tortall books & is just starting _Daja's Book_. Epic flail ensues, & the community he's built is also very cool [but needs more mwt].
