Have you noticed the "trend" they were talking about though? I don't think I have. The trend I see is more like authors jumping on the bandwagon of what's currently popular, but that's normal. The closest thing to what they said that I've noticed is fairytale retellings, but fairytale retellings have always existed.
If it were in reference to movies, I'd think they were peeved about the proliferation of re-boots the last few years. [*That* would actually be a reasonable position. Some of the re-boots, like "Ghostbusters", are original, fabulous, and well-done. Most, alas, are none of those.] I actually have no clue what they're on about, but they're sure vehement about it.
They also weirdly changed their stance from "mentioning Rosemary Sutcliffe (who I love) means you're copying her (which I hate)!" to "No, no, I just mean it's a trend for short summaries of books to mention authors whose work is similar and this is terrible for some reason."
I can understand being irritated by someone ripping off your favorite author, but it's nowhere indicated in the Big Idea post that TaT is exactly like Eagle of the Ninth, so no idea where that rant came from...
