Megan came to Utah again! We didn't scare her or slobber all over her too much last time so she came back! Thank you! And it was awesome!
Here we are at the lovely King's English independent book store in Salt Lake City, waiting for Megan to arrive. There was such a lovely hum of anticipation in the air! Complete strangers became best friends for the night, all because of Megan's stories. Sigh. Books are so magical.

Two awesome fans who brought Gen and Irene artwork!

Look at Gen's expression! Look at the mosaic style artwork! Gah!

There was a good-sized crowd and they had to scramble to bring more chairs out and even then, people were standing on the sides and in back.

Megan arrived up with Shannon Hale as her MC. They are so adorable together, just look at how much fun they're having.

The sun was shining right into their eyes so they climbed up the steps and hid behind the shadow of some ivy for a while. It was hilarious. They talked a lot about writing, about fangirling each other (and other authors), and kept saying, "We're not going to talk about our kids," even though they kept talking about their kids. I love these ladies so much.

I wish I could tell you that she unloaded a bunch of inside information. HAHAHAHAHAHA. She did explain WHY she doesn't tell (because the Sounis LJ community is so amazing and she doesn't want to get in the way of the magical things that happen here and yes, this place IS magical). So after the conversation with Shannon and a few questions, she went in to sign books while the fans formed a serpentine line throughout the bookstore and chatted happily with each other. Here I am with two of my sisters and Megan and Shannon. Megan remembered us, 'cause that's how our girl rolls, and even asked questions about my family and some of the other crazy Utah fans who couldn't make it. We're so lucky to have such a cool author as our favorite author, aren't we?

And isn't the King's English such a charming store? If you're ever in Salt Lake City, stop by and check it out. There are amazing food places next door and across the street and it's not too far from the downtown area. You won't regret it!

My sister got her sketchbook signed by Megan and then Shannon signed as well with a big heart around Megan's name. Awwww! Author besties are the greatest!

My amazing book group, plus the guy who brought his wife to see Megan and kept photobombing us. He was so funny! And we had a marvelous night. It was so fulfilling.

MWT fans often think alike and here's proof. I'm wearing the same shirt as this lovely fan named Carol. The best part is that when I asked her name she said, "Carol as in Carol the nurse from Curious George." Not Christmas Carol as most people would say, but Carol the nurse from Curious George. WHUT. THAT IS SO COOL. MWT fans are the coolest.

At our last Thiefcon, one of my daughters dressed up as Gen. While I was cleaning up and Megan was signing books, I had my daughter get in line to get my books signed and she had the nerve to channel Gen and have them all signed to her! That child! Anyway, here she is now all grown up and all dressed up as Irene (on her way to the high school drama banquet).

Date: 5/31/17 04:50 am (UTC)Thanks for sharing! So wonderful to see pictures, not just of these great authors, but of all their lovely fans gathered to celebrate Thick as Thieves! I do hope somebody told our author friends that, like Sophos, they mustn't hide in the ivy and mustn't be afraid to step out into the sunbeams! :D
Also: HOW COOL is your daughter, dressed up like Irene?! I have serious dress envy!!
Thanks again for sharing with Sounis! Looks and sounds like it was a really special event. <3

Date: 6/1/17 08:08 pm (UTC)I totally understand how it helped Megan, since I have a writing group and they are what keep me producing chapters to show them sort of on schedule.
