Yes yes yes! The POV play is so huge, I can't believe I forgot to bring it up! Even getting as close and personal as you feel you could through others' eyes of Lymond, there are only a few tantalizing moments you actually get their perspective ("one felt", "one thought"). And as much as not getting more of Gen's perspective is irritating at times, it makes the moments that are revealed that much more meaningful. The way the POV changes between the books seems a more direct parallel to Dianna Wynne-Jones to me, but the value of skewed human perspective on a character who deliberately uses all the skills at his disposal to play on those misinformed, skewed perspectives makes for a delightful mess to sort through and try to understand for both Eugenides and Lymond. Niccolo seemed a little more transparent to me, but he is still an accomplished mimic.

And oh yes, the blackberry pie! Honestly, between the two, I think the blackberry pie is more emotive to me - not just my heart, but the means wherewith to hurt if hurt were needed. There are definitely some parallels between the very few characters who truly have a friend's view of Eugenides and Lymond and thereby have the reciprocating ability to take their hearts on a toothpick.
