queensthief | Dreamwidth (and other platforms) Friending Celebration

Now that livejournal is no longer the watering hole that it once was, I've personally moved most of my blogging and activity over to Dreamwidth. There's been a pretty fun resurgence of activity over there in the last few months, so if you haven't been there in a while, you might want to check it out!

Fandom is much more disseminated across various social media platforms, but I would hate to lose track of friends and other Queen's Thief fans. So, in honor of that, I thought it might be nice to have a Dreamwidth/tumblr/twitter/goodreads/etc friending meme. If you're doing fannish stuff on any of these other platforms and you'd like to be added as a friend by other Sounis community members, post a comment with your links. I will definitely follow anyone from this community, since I know you all to be wonderful people with great taste in YA literature.

Any chance of moving this community entirely to Dreamwdith?
Given the country owning live journal, I'd really like to leave permanently.

I would prefer not to move to Dreamwidth. Just to put my voice in there as well.

As someone unfamiliar with Dreamwidth, would you mind me asking why you prefer livejournal? Asking purely out of curiosity, because I've heard talk before of migrations from LJ to Dreamwidth, but never knew what pro vs. cons that entailed.

My resistance to moving is mostly because I like the layouts and community better on Livejournal. Dreamwidth offers a lot of the same experience, but it doesn't feel as fun reading - something about the default fonts.

It's largely inertia on my part.

I can see how little details like that can make a big difference. I definitely enjoy the familiarity of livejournal and understand why it wouldn't translate well onto, say, Tumblr... the formatting of which is designed more with image-sharing in mind, I think, rather than conversation. (Which is how I fear my own Tumblr devolved into another dreaded aesthetics blog--anything beyond re-blogging pictures required too much effort, lol.) Anyways, thanks for enlightening me.

I felt the same way for a while, but I found out that I was able to customize Dreamwidth to resemble the old livejournal look, which is what I prefer anyway. The new livejournal layout (friends feed, login page, etc) is totally awful imo.

As far as community, neither site is as active as livejournal used to be. But I'm starting to feel some momentum on Dreamwidth. People seem to want to get away from micro-blogging and algorithmically-determined news feeds and get back to making real connections based on shared interests. And a lot of that movement seems to be on Dreamwidth.

ETA: That being said, this post is mainly just about keeping track of where people are doing fun stuff right now. So.... let's try and stick with that.

I know that LJ is breathing its last, and moving to a different platform seems attractive, but wouldn't we lose all our past posts? The reason I love Sounis so much is because of the insights and the discussions we've had over the years.

We've talked about moving the community over to Dreamwidth. My worry is that we'd lose some people who have been here for a long time or ones that only stop by every now and then. We can't afford to lose any more people. I've actually done a backup of Sounis to Dreamwidth in case LJ folds or changes drastically.

As Danny says, people seem to use multiple platforms now, instead of there being one site that the favorite. And it all changes so fast! I hate that LJ is so out of favor now; it really seems to be one of the few social media sites that allow for deeper discussion of topics, with search functions, tags, etc.

I'm eddis-attolia-sounis on Tumblr, although I hate Tumblr passionately and can hardly stand to use it.

Yay, I follow you! One thing on tumblr I haven't figured out is to omit the headings and white space around images (keeping the notes underneath). Yours and Megan's tumblers have nice clean images to look at, but I still have all the headings and white space. Do you need to be an html ninja to fix that?

It might depend on the tumblr theme you're using. Have you tried different ones?

I haven't tried different themes, so I'll try testing some out. Thanks!

ughhhhh I have so many feelings about lj/tumblr/time/my ability to keep up with important fandom things! I definitely support what Checkers and Leng say above about Sounis as a constant, though!

I might check out Dreamwidth at some point? But, for now...
