I picked up my Kindle last night to re-read The Thief and it opened at the end (from the last time I read it on the kindle) where Megan was explaining about some of her influences. She said that she used a direct quote from Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I'm sure I read this before but this time it intrigued me enough to re-read HMC and I found the quote! I even know exactly where in The Thief it was used. Did any of you catch it as well?

Ha, yes! I think she used that same phrase in QoA, too, is that right??

I haven't read Howl in years and now I really want to go back and reread.

Also, Megan has said that Gen has a major slithering-out problem. Even as king he keeps trying and trying to slither out of everything.

I will have to look for it in QofA when I have finished re-reading The Thief. I am taking my time with it as it's cold and snowy here and I am enjoying immersing myself in warm, sunny, Sounis and Attolia.

Yes, Gen definitely shares that slithering out characteristic with Howl. Lol

One of my favorite connections! This was one of the first quotes from another book/author I noticed and got me started looking for other allusions or tributes. I have a little collection of ones I've noticed from favorite series or authors.

Since someone asked, this is the one I know, although I think every time I read the Howl/Sophie series I find a second one I keep forgetting. Spoilers for anyone who wants to find it themselves.

I believe it was "What a lie that was!" used at the end of Howl and after Gen talks to the Innkeeper's wife in TT.

Did I get it right? :) Though, I do wonder if there is more than one...
