We're celebrating the first anniversary of Thick as Thieves here on
sounis with a re-read! Think of all that waiting we've aleady gotten through! ignores collective groans
If you've participated in a re-read here on
sounis in the past, we've decided to organize things a bit differently this time. I'm still dividing the book into four, mostly equal parts to be read and dicussed each week, but instead of a dicussion lead, we're trying to actively include everyone a little more this time. So, we're asking everyone participating to make their own post each week after reading the section.
Your post doesn't have to necessarily be about the section being read that week. Discussing the book and books in general is also fine! If you don't have anything to say that week, just skip on ahead to the next.
I will open each week on a Sunday with a post reminding everyone what we're reading that week. The comments of that post will be open for discussing as you go or just random and quick observations and/or questions.
Here's the schedule!
Opening chat in the Conspiracy Room on Sunday, May 6th at 7pm CT.
Week One
May 6th - May 12th
Chapters 1- 3 (p1-85)* 85 pages total
Week Two
May 13th - 19th
Chapters 4-6 (p86-181)* 96 pages total
Week Three
May 20th - May 26th
Chapters 7-10 (p182-269)* 88 pages total
Week Four
May 27th - June 2nd
Chapters 11-13+Envoy (p270-337)* 68 pages total
Closing chat in the Conspiracy Room on Sunday, June 3rd at 7pm CT.
If you'd prefer to start dicussing at the beginning of the week instead of the end, try starting the book a week ahead on April 29th.
*Page numbers are all from the 2017 hardcover edition.
The Thick as Thieves paperback is also coming out in May, (go HERE for pre-order options) and there will be a couple of special treats just for you guys to celebrate its release. So, keep your eyes peeled during the re-read!

Date: 4/11/18 04:07 am (UTC)I've also never actually made it for a group chat - will this be different than the occasional in-character chats I've seen posted about (not that I've attended one of those either, oops)?

Date: 4/11/18 04:55 pm (UTC)These will not be role playing chats, if that's what you mean. (Not sure when we're having one of those. Maybe, this summer?)
Regular chats are, basically, a faster, real time version of what we do on Sounis. We discuss QT and other random nerdy, bookish things. Sometimes MWT shows up and doesn't tell us anything. XD
They're tons of fun and a great way to connect with your fellow reprobates. So, do please stop by!

Date: 4/14/18 10:02 am (UTC)I always post a notice about a week in advance and again on the day of. Currently, our chats are always on a Sunday and always at the same time.
I try to schedule chats every other month or so and often on holiday weekends.
You can also log in to just read the backlog, leave messages, or have a impromptu chat with someone who happens to be logged in at the same time as you.

Date: 5/3/18 05:40 pm (UTC)We've tried chats on Saturday nights and some other days, but I've settled on Sunday night. It's always garnered the highest attendance.
However, anyone who wants to can schedule a chat. So, if you wanted to post: hey, I'm going to be in the Conspiracy Room this Friday night, that's perfectly fine.
Also, a lot of people log in the next day, read the backlog, and comment then. Chatters often log back in to go over the backlog, so plenty of people will see your message. I've held conversations on Chatzy just by logging in at random times and leaving messages.
You do not need to make a Chatzy account or pay anything to use the chat room. Just enter in a name and the password. Chatzy accounts are really only useful for making your own chat room or moderating one.
