Jan. 7th, 2007 03:43 pmFuse #8 has mentioned her conversation with the Sounisians as one of her "five favorite posts" of last year. The truth is, you have fuse #8 to thank (or to curse, maybe) for my presence here -- the legendary post is how I found y'all.

Philia, had you read the books before you saw the Fuse #8 post, or was that the catalyst for your reading them? I seem to remember you said you read the books out of order. What about our uber-stalkerness made you join?
Did anyone else find the Sounis site from reading Fuse #8 blog?

Date: 1/9/07 10:36 pm (UTC)I'm the same way, though, for some reason, before I found this place I NEVER found any other fans, dispite the fact that everytime I join a new forum that discusses books I write a post saying "Anyone ever heard of The Thief?"
I did buy a friend The Thief for Christmas so I could force him to read it, though. ^_~

Date: 1/8/07 02:51 am (UTC)Here's something else--all of us have recommended/begged/cajoled/forced our friends to read the books. But so many folks come here and say, "I'm so glad I found this place because I love these books but I don't know anyone else who has read them." Why, oh why is that?

Date: 1/8/07 07:53 am (UTC)Everytime the book-to-movie-characters come up I try to think of a role for him. So far can only come up with Aris - as O. is dreamier when he just stands thier and does an occasional stunt and doesn't try to act.

Really, really, really off topic

Date: 1/8/07 11:40 am (UTC)Of course, my experience is that one's friends almost never rush out and read something because one recommends it -- and probably they avoid it in proportion to how much you tell them they MUST read it. So I am reluctant to push. Gave it to my niece for her birthday and haven't asked whether she read it yet...

Re: it's all about blood sugar
Date: 1/9/07 12:23 am (UTC)I will now admit that many people involved in the field of children's literature scare the heck out of me.
Re: it's all about blood sugar
Date: 1/9/07 02:37 pm (UTC)...Oops, I think I just did.
Re: it's all about blood sugar
Date: 1/9/07 03:28 pm (UTC)Yes to reading quirks, too. Several times I've read books and disliked them, only to read them later and enjoy them. With me it's usually from being required to read something, although it could be blood sugar, I suppose. Her reasons seem extremely arbitrary, however.
But Ms. Larbalestier does call MWT a goddess here (http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/?m=200603).

Date: 1/10/07 06:08 pm (UTC)Hard to believe people could take their literary heros (smexy or otherwise) so seriously .... kidding!
However, I don't think I'll be reading any Laurell K Hamilton after reading the blog.
Re: it's all about blood sugar
Date: 1/9/07 07:00 pm (UTC)Unless they are being paid to read them, of course, or taking a class.
And if there is that much of a mind set against the book/author/cover/genre, the review is pretty worthless anyway.
have still not managed to slog my way through "His Dark Materials"
I really liked the Dark Materials trilogy. And I loved the images of the northern lights, and Lyra and Pan. I question someone liking the 2nd and 3rd if they didn't like the first one, however. There have been several comments in Sounis by people who didn't care for the books.

Date: 1/8/07 05:19 pm (UTC)2) I don't want to go too far with the bullying people to read them. Though I was DELIGHTED when Punkispurple loved them and apologised because she couldn't stop talking about them! ha!

I guess we can save our intelligent fangirling for the negative reviews :D. It may be acceptable for someone to kindly point Fairrosa over here however.
