Fuse #8 has mentioned her conversation with the Sounisians as one of her "five favorite posts" of last year.  The truth is, you have fuse #8 to thank (or to curse, maybe) for my presence here -- the legendary post is how I found y'all.

Very interesting! Thanks, Philia. The link is here:

Philia, had you read the books before you saw the Fuse #8 post, or was that the catalyst for your reading them? I seem to remember you said you read the books out of order. What about our uber-stalkerness made you join?

Did anyone else find the Sounis site from reading Fuse #8 blog?

Oh, I'm actually doing the same thing right now--putting off writing my blog (http://l33tbeat.blogspot.com/). But it's research, right? I mean, I have been looking for some places to read other book reviews and news and...I've found three links in this post! That counts for something, right? XD

I'm the same way, though, for some reason, before I found this place I NEVER found any other fans, dispite the fact that everytime I join a new forum that discusses books I write a post saying "Anyone ever heard of The Thief?"

I did buy a friend The Thief for Christmas so I could force him to read it, though. ^_~

I read the books out of order - KoA, then TT, then QoA. And I found Sounis via the Fuse #8 blog.

I found Sounis through Fuse #8 too, but I don't read it (Fuse #8) regularly. I was doing Queen's Thief Google searches when I found the link.

I found Sounis through the allscific website - its the only website (other than MWT official site and bookstore/review sites) that came up when I googled originally.

Fuse did us a huge favor, then, by sending us the two of you.

Here's something else--all of us have recommended/begged/cajoled/forced our friends to read the books. But so many folks come here and say, "I'm so glad I found this place because I love these books but I don't know anyone else who has read them." Why, oh why is that?

mmmm hypnotizing

Everytime the book-to-movie-characters come up I try to think of a role for him. So far can only come up with Aris - as O. is dreamier when he just stands thier and does an occasional stunt and doesn't try to act.

How about Legarus the Awesomely Beautiful?
-Philia

Really, really, really off topic

From: [identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com
Works for me. Hey! Did anyone else wonder if maybe Legarus was gay? After all, he IS beautiful, and his "lover" is referred to, but it never says "woman" or "she". Just curious.

read certain authors:

Wow. Just...wow. *buttons lip*

I will now admit that many people involved in the field of children's literature scare the heck out of me.

Yes to the sharing of info (as well as not being able to slog through Pullman). It's so tempting to blog your little heart out, but boy can it get you in trouble.

Yes to reading quirks, too. Several times I've read books and disliked them, only to read them later and enjoy them. With me it's usually from being required to read something, although it could be blood sugar, I suppose. Her reasons seem extremely arbitrary, however.

But Ms. Larbalestier does call MWT a goddess here (http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/?m=200603).

That's especially true for published authors who run the risk of alienating potential buyers. Case in point: Laurell K. Hamilton's recent blogging addresssing disgrunted fans which has been reproduced all over the blogosphere.

Again, wow. I can understand the frustration, but as you say, she may have alienated not only her detractors but her fans and future readers as well.

For God's sake, I'll be in the mall and see something, and go, "Oh, it's the perfect gift for (fill in the blank)." I've been in line with the present in my hand, before I go, "Wait, these are make believe people. I can't buy them a Christmas present." I guess I could, but there's no way to give it to them. They aren't THAT real.

Hard to believe people could take their literary heros (smexy or otherwise) so seriously .... kidding!

However, I don't think I'll be reading any Laurell K Hamilton after reading the blog.

But why should anyone, and especially anyone with a backlog of books to read and re-read, force themselves to slog through a book that does not appeal to them?

Unless they are being paid to read them, of course, or taking a class.

And if there is that much of a mind set against the book/author/cover/genre, the review is pretty worthless anyway.

have still not managed to slog my way through "His Dark Materials"

I really liked the Dark Materials trilogy. And I loved the images of the northern lights, and Lyra and Pan. I question someone liking the 2nd and 3rd if they didn't like the first one, however. There have been several comments in Sounis by people who didn't care for the books.

I remember loving 'His Dark Materials' when I read the books several years, but I agree with Peggy - I'm not sure how much anyone who didn't like the first one would enjoy the second one. I preferred the second to the first, but still enjoyed the first.

There doesn't seem to be much point in forcing yourself through a book.

I found the Dark materials books difficult. They were interesting and maybe I read them too fast. But I felt like there was something there in those books that I was just missing. These books I thought shouldn't have been considered Kid Lit. They were more like adult lit to me.

I'm an adult too. There's just too much religion in those books for me. And I couldn't figure out exactly what the author was trying to say about religion. It's probably something everyone else gets that I just can't figure out. I have read other books by the same author that I like, but well....Yeah lots of food might help.

Try the audio books for His Dark Materials. I love the first and am using audios for 2 and 3. They're full-cast readings, really well cast.

1) For me it's because mwt is relatively unknown in the UK. I have never seen her books in a bookshop round here, though Ro has. Well, she lives in London. You can everything in London. Though it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere either!

2) I don't want to go too far with the bullying people to read them. Though I was DELIGHTED when Punkispurple loved them and apologised because she couldn't stop talking about them! ha!

3) Not really a 3, but: smexy icon!

Reading through the comments on that blog, someone said that under fifteens would be confused! How insulting! I wasn't confused at all, just very upset that my Gen wasn't acting like normal. And I was thirteen when I read KoA!

Here's (http://www.fairrosa.info/rj/2006/11/king-of-attolia_26.html) another interesting comment from someone else who, like Leslie, read King first. She felt that the book stands on its own and let the story carry her along, not worrying about elements that weren't explained until further along in the story.

Ah,duh. We could have a good time freaking bloggers out by descending on their sites en masse and clogging up their threads with fangirlish remarks.

Jeez, you scared me for a minute there. I thought I was going to be making another quick trip to Patagonia for one of my usual inadvertent insults.

I guess we can save our intelligent fangirling for the negative reviews :D. It may be acceptable for someone to kindly point Fairrosa over here however.

I was going to say I recommended this book to my sister. She had already heard about it from a doctor she works with. But of course she didn't tell me about it. I found The Thief in a bookstore, in the wrong section (classics). Or I would have never heard about it either.

I found this site because I looked up MWT in Wikipedia, and sounis came up as one of the links.
