queensthiefI came across this article "Breaking These 11 Bad Habits Will Make You a Lot Happier" and, about halfway through, I started to laugh, thinking, "wait a minute...these remind me of someone." Let's see if you think the same. Here are the "Bad Habits."
1. Neglect
2. Complaining
3. Self-Doubt
4. Blaming
5. Control
6. Criticism
7. Bossiness
8. Rejection
9. Manipulation
10. Deception
11. Selfishness
Hmmm, got a guess? They ALL describe Eugenides! Let's look at each:
1. Neglect - Gen, like Howl, is always slithering out of any and all responsibilities.
2. Complaining - Enough said.
3. Self-Doubt - Although he can seem self-assured, I see Gen as very unsure about the things he does. If you're a master of foolhardy plans, isn't that bound to be the case?
4. Blaming - "It's not my fault I am late. Costis didn't come back after he ate."
5. Control - Gen always has to be controling everything that's going on around him.
6. Criticism - "That necklace was hideous. It was the only way to keep you from wearing it."
7. Bossiness - Not only does Gen boss people like Costis around, he tries to boss Attolia when he's being held captive in Ephrata.
8. Rejection - He routinely rejects advice, including his doctors' orders.
9. Manipulation - Oh my, he's a master of manipulation.
10. Deception - He deceives and lies to everyone, including himself.
11. Selfishness - Ok, this is the one I had a little harder time with, but then I read in the article, "you may feel that the world is centered around you" and decided that's definitely Gen.
