[identity profile] deirdrej.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] queensthief

Hi, everyone! It's been ages — I've been lurking occasionally, but I haven't written in forever. I hope you are all well!

I enjoyed seeing a few people virtually at Megan's recent "Day of Dialog" appearance. So wonderful! (Although I totally forgot to ask my most pressing question, concerning a book I think must have influenced her, which she has never mentioned... but I digress).

As some of you know, I am a YA Librarian, and my wonderful library has been having us create content. So recently the theme was "travel" and I posted this:

I'm also going to be doing a series called "Find Your New Faves" on Monday evenings, and I'm featuring "The Baker King" in the second session.  If you know anyone who might be interested, please let them know — or come yourself! I hope it's OK for me to post the link? If not, please take it away, and if so, it's here:

Thank you, and have a great afternoon!

Good to see you again, and thanks for the links! Lovely pictures, and cute fighting fish. :) Aris is a fitting name.

This reminds me of the Where's Eugenides tag we were contemplating, before a certain virus canceled everyone's travel plans for the summer. :( Oh well! At least we still have a new book to look forward to in the Fall.

Thank you so much! It's great to be back!

I was thrilled when I saw Aris in the pet shop - did you notice he has the colors of the Queen's Guard? One assumes the King's Guard's colors would be similar (at least this one does! 😉😀!)

I've named all my fighting fish after Queen's ( and King's) guardsmen. I even had one named Legarus the Awesomely Beautiful. Which was also perfect because: 1. Very pretty indeed! 2. Never said a word. (Unlike my very chatty cat, Finn, whose name comes from Irish mythology).

Thanks again! 😀

I have a chatty cat named Finn, too!

Thank you for posting this, although I myself probably wont be able to come : ( .
Is The Baker King from her anthology instead of three wishes ?

Yes! It's a great anthology, and I actually read the story pretty well. I hope I get one or 2 people!

I was thinking, a hidden advantage of this Covid 19 virtual everything situation is that people don't actually have to be in the library to enjoy our programs.

We shall see!

Yeah, the entire situation has almost caused a kind of societal shift out of sheer necessity, I think.
I have a question about Instead of three wishes: Was it ever published as an actual printed book or just as an ebook?
Because I tried to buy it once, but the lady of the bookstore told me its just an ebook, and i don't own a kindle or anything like that.

It's absolutely a printed book. Now, it published before the QT series started, so it might be harder to find, but it looks like a used copy is available through Thriftbooks: https://bookshop.org/books/instead-of-three-wishes-magical-short-stories/9780060842314

Yes, that's right! It is and always was a printed book, and it's available from Amazon. Here's the link!

Sorry, deirdrej, I just saw your "spammed" comment with the link and unspammed it.

Welcome back, deidrej. I saw you at the SLJ DoD. It's good to see you here, too. I also try to include QT titles in social content for my library as often as possible.

"The Baker King" is one of my favorite stories from Instead of Three Wishes. I like to think of Nele as some sort of great-ancestor of Gen's.

I've signed up and will try to attend. (7pm in CT is get-daughter-to-bed time in TX.)

Thank you so much! I hope you'll be able to make it!

Your daughter must be quite little, otherwise I'd say bring her along!

Thanks again, though! 😀

Yeah, she's 5. But I may bring my 10yo son along. I read him Instead of Three Wishes almost a year and a half ago and he liked it.

It sounds like a lovely, fun program! I need to reread Three Wishes; it's been ages and I don't remember many of the stories. Book that may have influenced Megan? I'm curious...

And what is the seacoast town? It's beautiful.

Happy to see you back here!
