Hi, everyone! It's been ages — I've been lurking occasionally, but I haven't written in forever. I hope you are all well!
I enjoyed seeing a few people virtually at Megan's recent "Day of Dialog" appearance. So wonderful! (Although I totally forgot to ask my most pressing question, concerning a book I think must have influenced her, which she has never mentioned... but I digress).
As some of you know, I am a YA Librarian, and my wonderful library has been having us create content. So recently the theme was "travel" and I posted this:
I'm also going to be doing a series called "Find Your New Faves" on Monday evenings, and I'm featuring "The Baker King" in the second session. If you know anyone who might be interested, please let them know — or come yourself! I hope it's OK for me to post the link? If not, please take it away, and if so, it's here:
Thank you, and have a great afternoon!

Date: 6/4/20 05:52 pm (UTC)I was using the new LJ editor to post this, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do a cut? I don't know why there is all that white space - I'll fix the post, as soon as I can figure out how.

Date: 6/4/20 10:43 pm (UTC)This reminds me of the Where's Eugenides tag we were contemplating, before a certain virus canceled everyone's travel plans for the summer. :( Oh well! At least we still have a new book to look forward to in the Fall.

Date: 6/7/20 01:03 am (UTC)I was thrilled when I saw Aris in the pet shop - did you notice he has the colors of the Queen's Guard? One assumes the King's Guard's colors would be similar (at least this one does! 😉😀!)
I've named all my fighting fish after Queen's ( and King's) guardsmen. I even had one named Legarus the Awesomely Beautiful. Which was also perfect because: 1. Very pretty indeed! 2. Never said a word. (Unlike my very chatty cat, Finn, whose name comes from Irish mythology).
Thanks again! 😀

Date: 6/7/20 01:07 am (UTC)I was thinking, a hidden advantage of this Covid 19 virtual everything situation is that people don't actually have to be in the library to enjoy our programs.
We shall see!

Date: 6/7/20 05:49 pm (UTC)I have a question about Instead of three wishes: Was it ever published as an actual printed book or just as an ebook?
Because I tried to buy it once, but the lady of the bookstore told me its just an ebook, and i don't own a kindle or anything like that.

Date: 6/7/20 10:54 pm (UTC)"The Baker King" is one of my favorite stories from Instead of Three Wishes. I like to think of Nele as some sort of great-ancestor of Gen's.
I've signed up and will try to attend. (7pm in CT is get-daughter-to-bed time in TX.)

Thanks again, though! 😀

Date: 6/8/20 03:52 pm (UTC)And what is the seacoast town? It's beautiful.
Happy to see you back here!

Date: 6/15/20 04:18 pm (UTC)And the town is Galway, Ireland. You can see the edge of my great-grandparent's house, where my Mom was born, on the left.
As to the book - maybe I need a new post? Because there is more than one thing in it that screams "Queen's Thief!," but I don't think Megan has mentioned it anywhere? I've been trying to make sure by checking what she says in my book editions and online. Is there a complete list of books and stories that influenced her anywhere?
Thanks again and have a great day!
