Murderbot diaries by Martha Wells (snarky 1st person POV, thoughts on personhood and namesb sci fi)

In Other Lands by Sarah rees brennan (Young Adult, snarky narrator, pacifist narrator in a fantasy setting, does not like that his friends are child soldiers, people in this magic fantasy school dont see anything wrong with this and elliot thinks thats bad, slice of life story style)

Bartimaeus Sequence (Young Adult england is a corrupt state that enslaves demons from another dimension to further their empire, demon pov)

Lymond books by Dorothy dunnett (ps if you read these no one looks up the court french or latin, we're here for the drunk pig and sword fights, if you dont understand what is happening youre doing it right)

Hexwood by Diana Wynne Jones (dwj is a massive inspiration to mwt and is actually the reason she got published) (hexwood does that thing where the narrative you think you are reading isnt the narrative that is actually happening)

Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. Very Thief-like, and told through multiple, very flawed, characters.

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (a pen name of Sarah Monette) is a twisty story with lots of political intrigue and connections that come out slowly over time. The main character doesn't have any of Gen's physical or genius attributes but he succeeds through his honorable, kind character and his perseverance. It's a tough read with all its characters and their similar names, but worth the effort.

And my second-favorite series (you can guess my favorite, I'm sure), the Miles Vorkosigan books by Lois Bujold. You can start with Cordelia's Honor if you have to read books in order (like me), or The Warrior's Apprentice, if you'd rather just in with Miles and his craziness.

Thanks for asking! I've been wanting to put together an "If you like QT" list to share on our website at work, so I look forward to what other have to suggest, too.

My "read-alikes" for QT tend to center around the interplay and intersection of politics and religion, with wonderful characters who often have to grow into increasingly challenging roles.

Rae Carson's The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy
R.J. Anderson's A Pocket Full of Murder and A Little Taste of Poison
Emily B. Martin's Creatures of Light trilogy (begins with Woodwalker) and Sunshield
Brandon' Sanderson's Mistborn series
Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache mysteries

I second Checkers on

Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom (though I'd expand that to include all the Grisha titles)
Katherine Addison's Goblin Emperor

I need to go look up Hexwood by DWJ and Lois Bujold.

I've been meaning to come back and add the trilogy by A.C. Gaughan that begins with Scarlet.

I would also like to add The Gentlemen Bastards Sequence by Scott Lynch which is also a rather prolific series about clever thieves pulling clever tricks in a fantasy setting (although they're a bit more on the grimdark side).
