Very cool! When I read RotT, I googled "pitneen," thinking it was probably a made-up bird, since I know a bit about how MWT's brain works, and that she'd want us to picture it on our own. That was such a delightful part of the book, and when Gen put that hat on I LOLd. I'm picturing it as multicolored, with some yellows, reds, and blues. Gen usually loves his bright colors but this was a bit much even for him.

As for Pheris – he has been a part of this story almost from its beginning. I think if he seems particularly realistic it’s because he’s had 23 years growing and developing in the back of my head.</>

I was taken aback by that. All those years, and she never let on.

She is so good at “not telling”

He *does* seem realistic. I loved him right away, and was just remarking to my sister that there are so many tidbits for the other stories in the early books--that mwt MUST have known it all before. That is like... legit amazing. I'm truly blown away

I didn’t google right away but like you I pictured bright colors — yellow/golds with blue. I thought of the time he had a canary yellow coat (or was it sash?) I think reds and black would fit, too to symbolize a Unified Little Peninsula. The name pitneen made me think of species of birds where the males have brightly colored plumage— definitely not a majestic bird of prey 🤣. I LOLd when Sophos tweeted (or twitted). I am rereading very slowly so I’m still a long way to this part.. but I was thinking of Ion. It must have been him who was in charge of the parade outfit . And I was just thinking this might be sweet revenge on his part, though not in a mean way. I think Ion, Hilarion and Philo have been sincere in their repentance and Gen recognizes that. Nothing definitive from the POVs but I think there’s a certain level of camaraderie that has blossomed with these attendants. Also, Ion has not been eviscerated 😬
Regarding Pheris — **big eyes, open mouth** whoa 😮 it’s really amazing getting a glimpse into how her mind works. It was a little bumpy for me in the beginning (from Pheris’s POV) but as his story unfolded, I also found the right gear.

Whoa, what a great interview! I'm particularly excited by the "couple of longer projects" she said she might embark on!

I enjoyed reading this interview but it pointed out a mistaken belief that I have held for a few years. When ACoK came out, I was under the impression it was the other half of KoA; MWT says quite clearly in this interview that TaT is the other half of KoA. So now I am adjusting my ideas of the books!
