Many of Turner's names are Greek, or evocative of Greek ones.  So I  thought I would see if the name Pheris was real, or had a cognate.

So, yes.  Pharis, or Phares, is a name from Greek mythology. The original married a woman famous for conjugal disharmony and violence (one of the Danaids) and was the progenitor of a couple of Achaean heroes of the Trojan War. There's a city in the Pelopennese named after him.

The interesting part, though, is his own progenitor.

The real Pharis is the son of Hermes.  The god of thieves.

Kind of sheds light on the Pigeon's relationship with our Gen, huh?  And with their gods.

Pheris is really good at hiding and finding ways to be nearly invisible. He also randomly stole one of Ion's cuff links just because he liked to collect things. He doesn't share Eugenidies' earing obsession, but the two have a lot in common.

No wonder it takes MWT so long to write a book. Think of the time spent on figuring out appropriate names!
