emerald: BOO!
Avian: hello :)
Avian: ah!
emerald: Hi Avian
Avian: we are both an hour early
emerald: lol. yes
Avian: and Willow just pulled a very nicely timed vanishing act - just as we entered
emerald: she's stealthy
Avian: yes :P
Avian: how are you?
emerald: good. tired from work. i can't be bothered to do anything except listen to music and relax.
emerald: you?
Avian: sending emails to people who need to complete or finish editing yearbook pages
Avian: and studying
emerald: lol, so you're poking people
Avian: yep, that's about it
Avian: it's crazy how quickly some of them reply...
emerald: i've had a pretty awesome amazing month and things are finally calming down a bit. i'm meeting up with a friend tomorrow who i haven't seen in ages. i'm slightly annoyed she's rescheduled so she can see her boyfriend in the morning but more relived because it means i get more sleep
emerald: yeah, they probably have alerts or something or thats all they do. lol
Avian: well, at least she didn't cancel :)
emerald: yeah, i would have been pretty annoyed if she did
Avian: well, a few girls sent me there pages and it hit me "OMG I HAVE TO PUT THESE ALL TOGETHER"
Avian: lol
Avian: their*
emerald: but i know she wouldn't. the reason she had to reschedule is her manager at work is being a class A loser and she hasn't had a day off/weekend for over a week
Avian: aw
emerald: Go Avian! I love organising stuff. i didn't do the yearbook but i helped out with the prom
Avian: that must be a bit stressful
Avian: her not being off that is
emerald: ack, yes...it's complicated
emerald gives Avian a chance to reply to emails/sort out pages; goes ebay shopping
Avian: thanks :)
Avian: whatcha lookin at?
emerald: actually, i just remembered i had to check some holiday dates for school. i'll look at ebay in a minute
emerald: ...books. i'm interested to see what copies of my fave books are on ebay. and who is insane enough not to want them
emerald: None of Megan's books are on ebay! See, everyone who reads them, likes them
Avian: yes, that is the only explanation :)
emerald: plus, i want to buy some more Sutcliffs rather than keep borrowing them from the library
emerald: too many of them are darnit out of print
Avian: who wrote Tam Lin?
emerald: Pamela something? check Jade's LJ
Avian: dean?
Avian: that random question just popped into my head
Avian: :P
emerald: yes
emerald: Pamela Dean
Avian: thanks
Avian cleans up for chat
emerald: brb
emerald: back
Avian: "He keeps getting what he asks for and then wishing he hadn't. He keeps aspiring to be more, but he always wants to stay the thief he used to be."
emerald: i know, beautiful isn't it?!
Avian: Philia said that in reply to one of the recent posts, and i think it's a good prompt for anyone who wnaders in
Avian: she summarized my rambling into 1 sentence :P
emerald: since when did anyone know what they want? let alone someone our age
emerald: exactly! Philia is so good at doing that
Avian: he gets what he wants... but it comes with other stuff he doesn't want
emerald: YES!
Avian: he wants to marry Attolia but not to be king
emerald: Gen's adaptable. bless his cotton socks
emerald: ahem, bless his goat wool socks
Avian: :D
emerald: There's someone at work who reminds me slightly of Gen. only slightly. don't get excited.
Avian: he wants to (continue to) be the best thief around and be famous, but in a way, he doesn't really want the attention
Avian: how so?
emerald: he's amusing the way he gets himself in situations he can't get out of, he can be exasperatingly stubborn, he is quite good looking
Avian: i can see the Genness :)
Philia from x.x.x.249 joined the chat 13 hours ago
emerald: he's too tall, isn't as devious as Gen and doesn't have one hand
emerald: i mean: he still has 2 hands
Avian: hello :)
Philia: Oh goodness, we're on topic, woohoo!
emerald: Hi Awesome Philia
Avian: were you waiting for us to be on topic?
emerald: It's because of you
Avian: lag
emerald: that we are on topic
Philia: Hi awesome emerald
Philia: You seem to like lower case
emerald: me? it looks nicer than Emerald. The capital E makes it look too grand
aged_crone from x.x.x.143 joined the chat 13 hours ago
emerald: for some reason.
emerald: Hi AWESOME LESLIE
Avian: hey, Leslie!
emerald: oops
Philia: Yo ho ho
emerald: forgive the capslock
Philia: But Leslie likes to be grand
Avian: A PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME!
Avian: sorry :P
Philia: (I think)
Rowana from x.x.x.170 joined the chat 13 hours ago
aged_crone: Hi. Very, very laggy!
Avian: hello, queen Ro
Rowana: Gosh, that's a lotof backlog
Philia: So many BNFs. I feel in awe...
Rowana: Hee
aged_crone: Do we know that Gen's good-looking?
emerald: yes,
aged_crone: I mean, I assume he is, but I don't recall that we're ever told that.
emerald: Hi Rowana!
Philia: I would think he isn't traditionally good-looking. I think of him as being good-looking only to those whose taste runs that way
aged_crone: Maybe he's like Eddis, really not good-looking at all but with a smile that makes people want to crawl over broken glass for him, or whatever it was.
Rowana: Hello!
emerald: well, Megan found someone who looked and was like Gen totally....
Philia: But maybe that's just because I tend to be more interested in men who don't look "pretty."
aged_crone: Certainly it seems to work on waitresses in bars.
alpestars from x.x.x.170 joined the chat 13 hours ago
emerald: and he used to be a model
alpestars: hi!
emerald: Hi Alpestars!
Rowana: Hello alpestars!
aged_crone: Ah, but was he the "before" or the "after" model?
aged_crone: Hi, Alpestars.
Philia: Yo
Avian: hello :)
emerald: BOO!
emerald: ignore me
aged_crone: I'm getting a feeling of deja vu. Have we already had this conversation?
emerald: :PPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Avian: i thought he was a soccer coach?
alpestars: we were talking about someone who looked like Gen?
emerald: YES, we have!
Philia: Wrestling
Rowana: And Leslie - hah - I guess Megan must keep her descriptions of her characters pretty vague for a reason
Avian: i was close
emerald: Megan said her son's wrestling coach was very very like Gen and it made her grin like an idiot. to paraphrase her words
Philia: I'm all for vague. I don't have much interest in having characters described in excruciating detail
Avian: and we told her to take a picture or something :P
Philia: Wrestling, soccer, same thing
Rowana: Yeah. And there's more room to see them the way you like best, that way
emerald: but she won't show it to us...she won't pardon Checkers or Jade!
aged_crone envisions Philia in the wrestling ring, energetically kicking her opponent in the head
Avian: HAHAHA
emerald: still....i would like to see that picture....
Rowana: Or give us the wedding night scene. :)
emerald: LOL
Philia: Envision me in an Aikido dojo, and you will be vastly more accurate
Rowana: lol
emerald: Which Willow has abbreviated to WNS
Avian: oh... that's a tough vote
alpestars: what did Checkers or Jade do?
emerald: LOL
emerald: who wants to tell the story?
emerald: the long story
Avian: neither of them are here to defend themself...
emerald: heehee
alpestars: :D
Rowana: well, the short form is, Checkers called Megan strange, and Jade called Megan old
alpestars: oh dear
Rowana: Anyone want to expand?
Avian: good shortening, Ro :)
emerald: YES, lemme find the thread
Avian: both by accident
Rowana: Thank you. :)
Avian: jade didn't know it was Megan
Rowana: Yes, neither of them meant to.
aged_crone: Hmmm - interesting. I found a poem in an old Jack and Jill magazine and thought it was great, but also thought it seemed a bit polished for a child's work, which it was supposed to be. So I just googled it, and it's by Dorothy Aldis, not the child who allegedly wrote it.
Avian: Checkers did
alpestars: that's the fandom creator, there
alpestars: LOL
aged_crone: Completely OT, but we were talking about poetry earlier...
alpestars: maybe she wanted it to happen
alpestars: sorry
aged_crone: I'm starting to channel that old baseball movie whose name I forget even though I have it: "If you insult her, she will come."
Avian: Emerald, would you like to become the rare orange, pink, red, or olive emerald so conversation isn't too confusing?
Rowana: Leslie - I doubt there's many people who can write well whilst they're young. That said, someone mentioned Amelia Atwater Rhodes (sp?) to me recently - apparently she wsa published in her teens
Rowana: or something
Philia: One of you can take over brown if you like. I'll probably need to go soon. Weekends are tough for getting computer time
aged_crone: S.E. Hinton did a pretty good job with The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now - she was 17 when she wrote her first one.
aged_crone: And Gordon Korman was in *seventh grade* when he wrote his first one. I think his books are hilarious.
emerald: :P of course
Avian: thank you :)
Philia: There's a new book out by a 12-year-old, Swordbird. I refuse to read it because I resent that some 12-year-old can get published and I can't /me huffs
aged_crone: But what struck me about that poem was that Jack & Jill didn't catch the plagiarism.
aged_crone: Hey, Pink Emerald!
Philia: Oops that didn't work!!
aged_crone: (That sounds like a superhero).
emerald: http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/61810.html?thread=1282674#t1282674 is Jade, though what Jade said exactly has been deleted. i'm still looking for Checkers
Rowana: I don't think I've ever seen that shade of pink before
aged_crone: Green Lantern and Pink Emerald.
alpestars: so this is how you switch colors!
aged_crone from x.x.x.143 left this message 13 hours ago:
On stormy days
When the wind is high
Tall trees, like brooms,
Sweep the sky.
They swish their branches
In buckets of rain,
And swash and sweep it
Blue again.
emerald: yes
alpestars: eragon was an example of a book published by an author that wasn't the best representation of a best book by a young author, ,though, imo
Philia: Yes, I hear it's...ahem...
Rowana: ahem is one way of putting it
Philia: Kenneth Oppel apparently wrote and published something quite young, but I haven't read it. Still, he is very good now
alpestars: *wince*
emerald: http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/69640.html?page=2#comments here is what Checkers said
Avian: who would like to to see Dite in future books?
Philia: 18,maybe
Avian: LAG
aged_crone: There's a book published in the 70's called She Was Nice to Mice, about Elizabeth I, that was written and illustrated by fairly young kids. Oh, and then of course there's the Far-Distant Oxus by Whitlock and Hull, who were teens.
aged_crone: Me! (Re Dite)
emerald: ME! *hand in air*
Rowana: I would.
Philia: Thanks, guys, now I feel really depressed about my life. And just think, at my age, Mozart had been dead for eleven years
emerald: though i want to see Sophos and Eddis more (together)
aged_crone remembers to go search for the two sequels of Oxus...
Philia: Dite's okay, but I'm not sure we NEED to know more about him. I mean, he's kind of taken care of
Avian: who would like to see Gen throw Dite and Costis into some crazy plan?
emerald: ME! and Sophos
Philia: Costis and Heiro
aged_crone: Oh, boy, would that be fun!
Avian: (i'm just releasing plot bunnies :P)
Rowana: Is anyone any closer to figuring out what Geb's idea for Costis was at the end?
Rowana: That's still bugging me
emerald: ooooh, *offers alpestars cookies*
Avian: could be anything
Rowana: (And probably will continue to do so till the next book)
alpestars: hahaha! thanks for posting the lj comm. links, emerald :)
Philia: Haven't tried that hard.
aged_crone: Hunt for Sophos? Kill Nahuseresh?
aged_crone: Marry Eddis?
Rowana tries to imagine Costis killing Nahusaresh
alpestars: ... and i also get cookies?!
Philia: When people talk about training him to be a thief, though, I always wonder...I mean, Gen started training very young. Costis is probably already too old to learn to be that stealthy
Rowana: lol
Avian: i think Gen wants to look for Sophos himself but can't exactly leave Attolia yet
emerald: ...actually, its thanks to Jade we know Megan's birthday and were able to do the birthday post. so some good did come out of it
Philia: No, no, Sounis and Nahuseresh kill each other, don't they?
Avian: SOPHOS IS NOT DEAD
aged_crone: ACK!!!! Oxus in Summer is $138!!!!
Philia: Possibly aided by Gen's father
Avian: just thought i'd mention
emerald: Alpestars - yes, you get cookies. everyone gets cookies from me.
Philia: Thank you, Avian. Of course he's not
emerald: OH YEAH *high fives Philia*
Avian eats cookies
Avian: i could use wings tiday
Rowana also snags a few cookies
Avian: today*
aged_crone: BE CAREFUL ABOUT EATING EMERALD'S COOKIES!
alpestars: i remember there was a theory that Gen had Sophos hidden away
alpestars: i don't think that's true
Rowana should start bringing Red Bull into the conspiracy room
aged_crone: No, he seemed genuinely worried.
Avian: haha
Rowana: No - I like the Costis being sent to find Sohos theory
Avian: we don't need energy drinks :P
emerald: I should place bets on who does the warning first...what is wrong with my cookies?
Philia: I agree, I would doubt that his whole melancholy over Sophos is fake
Rowana: it would get him out of the country, being useful
alpestars: yeah, i like that theory better too
Rowana: for the wings avian. :)
Philia: I think emerald's cookies are yummy, but that's me
Rowana: (do the adds not do that over there?)
alpestars: do you think it's still going to be costis-pov?
emerald: (because they certainly do over here)
Avian: oh, haha... but think how crazy we'd be... bouncing off the walls
alpestars: i'll miss gen a bit
Philia: (has no idea what ads Ro is referring to)
aged_crone: Do adds do what? What's an add?
Rowana: It'd be interesting if it was alpestars - because every book up till now Megan's changed POV
aged_crone: Oh, wait - Red Bull Gives You Wings.
Rowana: (Red Bull gives you wings! *gives up*)
Avian: (yes we have the red bull commercials "red bull gives you wings")
Avian: lag
emerald offers Ro cookies instead
Rowana realises she is the only one here who watches TV
aged_crone: Yes, those are stateside ads, too. With a British accent, so it's probably the same ads.
Philia: No, I think one should not predict the PoV. Let Megan surprise us -- and I have faith that she will, and it will be brilliant and perfect
alpestars: wait wait wait, red bull what?
alpestars: red bull for gen = fly! :D
Rowana: Yes, and utterly different from the first three books, Philia
alpestars: ahem.
aged_crone: I still like my theory about Fido, the palace dog, being the next PoV.
aged_crone: :)
Avian: HAHA
Rowana: That's a frightening thought. Gen on Red BUll
Philia: I do watch Tv, remember we discussed Veronica Mars. I just tend to mute the ads and do something else until the show's back on
Avian: i don't remember that theory
emerald: Poor Costis
Rowana: I know, i was kidding. :)
alpestars: oh gosh, Fido's the perfect never-to-be-suspect.
emerald: Leslie, i thought it was the palace cat?
Avian hearts that idea of Gen on red bull!
Rowana: Would he be called Fido though?
Philia hearts the cat idea
emerald: nooo, i'll go dredge the old backlog
aged_crone: Did you see Under the Hedge? (Or maybe Over the Hedge)? Where the hyper squirrel drank an energy drink?
Philia: Pirate Cats!
Rowana: Or something vaguely greek?
Philia: It'll be from the PoV of a pirate cat
aged_crone: That would be Gen.
Avian: over the hedge - haha, yes :P
aged_crone: Maybe it was a cat. It's been a while.
Rowana: Wasn't that..hoodwinked?
aged_crone: Maybe Heiro!
Rowana is probably wrong
emerald: brings a whole new meaning to the words Crack Squirrel
Philia: Ooooh....Heiro.....
alpestars: and what was its original meaning, exactly?
alpestars: (really don't know)
aged_crone: "I realized that my plot had succeeded. I had made the king trust me. Now, the time was right to TAKE OVER THE KINGDOM!"
Rowana: Lol
emerald: come to think of it, that is the original meaning.
aged_crone: (Evil Heiro).
alpestars: LOL
Avian: oh, dear
emerald: LOL
emerald: OH, YES!
aged_crone: "Yes, no one knew, but I had fallen head over heels in love with that fabulously gorgeous Nahuseresh. Oh, that oily red beard!"
alpestars: aged_crone -- that was sejanus, too
Philia: Goodness, the family hasn't come home and booted me out of here yet, Wonder what they're up to.
aged_crone: Yes, but Heiro was a much better deceiver than Sejanus.
alpestars: have they read the books?
Philia: Who?
emerald: because now like the 5 way marriage, we can have a 5 way who kills who
Avian: Philia, you sound like my teacher "stop being quiet... you might be planning my murder" :P
alpestars: right. i didn't know who you were talking about initially. :P
emerald: yuk, that beard
Philia: Obviously the beard is in fashion in Medea
emerald: are the overlapping conversations confusing anyone?
alpestars: poor medes (cough persians) -- they're always described as the ugly ones
alpestars: yeah! (to emerald)
Philia puts her hand up
emerald: okay, just checking my sanity
Rowana: Yes Emerald, just a bit
Philia: Nahuseresh isn;t ugly at all -- he's quite good-looking, he just goes in for dubious beard fashions
emerald: *relative sanity
alpestars: it's not too bad, kind of fun, though. :)
emerald agrees with Philia
emerald offers cookies all round
Philia: If he were ugly, Gen would probably loathe him just a bit less...
Rowana: I never thought about it much, but Gen must have been incredibly jealous of Nahusaresh at one point
Rowana: Yes. :)
emerald: his comment that made Attolia slap him...
emerald: shadow queen to puppet queen in one rule...
Philia: (She was just trying to get him to shut up and not give away the game)
Rowana: Yes - it was moments like that that made QoA plausible for me
emerald: yeah, i got that. but Gen didn't know what
emerald: *that
Rowana: I mean, their interaction
Philia: That's what makes those scenes so great
alpestars: i liked QoA the least
Philia: And I liked it the best
Rowana: I think a lot of people feel like that alpestars
Avian: (is anyone doing the sounis post?)
alpestars: i liked the fact that where everything could have gone to angst didn't, however
Philia: Favorite moment perhaps ever in the books: "You have any mistresses, and I'll cut your other hand off!"
Rowana: (The backlog Avian?)
Avian: yes!
Rowana: I'll do it. :)
Avian: (yes, backlog... couldn't remember the word :P)
alpestars: like when gen was waiting in that holding cell -- he figured out that he wasn't doomed!
emerald: actually, i didn't like QoA much until the comm made me realise lots of things about it. Reading it with KoA's hindsight makes it happier, i think
emerald: but i love it now
Rowana: I guess it is a bit of a bridge book in some ways
alpestars: maybe i should reread it
emerald: Oh yeah, I'VE RE-READ THEM LOADSA TIMES. They get better every time you read them
Rowana: KoA felt more like a bridge book to me actually. Like a penultimate book, setting up for some finale.
Philia: I thought of Thief as a very good book, but I don't think I realized how special it was until I read QoA and was BLOWN AWAY
Philia: What does alpestars mean?
alpestars: when i think about the thief now, i feel nostaglic
Avian: hm... i don't think i ever hated QoA... i just read it REALLY fast the first time and then went back and LOVED it
emerald: me too
emerald: about the nostalgia
Philia: Ah, there they are. Must offski. Ciao!
Philia from x.x.x.249 left the chat 13 hours ago
Rowana: Bye :)
Avian: bye!
aged_crone from x.x.x.143 joined the chat 13 hours ago
emerald: Bye
emerald: and hello Leslie
alpestars: philia -- i meant that he could've been all angsty and mopey when he was in the holding cell (waiting for his eyes/ears/tongue to be cut or gouged off), but the mwt made him smart enough to realize that that *wasn't* going to happen to him when eddis and attolia finally remember to rescue him. so we had humor instead of angst.
aged_crone: Frozen out again. Back now.
alpestars: oh, darn. philia just left.
alpestars: hi again, aged_crone!
emerald: call her Leslie
emerald: she only pretends to be aged
alpestars: leslie!
alpestars: anyone else have names i should know about?
emerald: hah, glad you asked
emerald: you need a title in Queen Ro's Court
alpestars: aheh. *embarassed*. ummmm.
aged_crone: Just backlogging. Boy, in the two minutes I was gone you racked up quite a number of lines!
emerald: http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/45136.html#cutid1
Avian: i have to be going
Avian: good luck choosing a name
Avian: bye, y'all!
emerald: bye Avian! (did the cakes turn out well in the end?)
Avian from x.x.x.20 left the chat 13 hours ago
Rowana: Everyone gets a title alpestars. :)
aged_crone: I love the "You have any mistresses..." line, but I must here mention again that one of my favorite parts is Attolia's offering Gen her wine.
Rowana: Bye Avian
emerald: oh yes, Attolia is my hero. she is amazing
aged_crone: I am very very aged. If Jade were here I could tell her that I am more aged than her mother.
aged_crone: Bye, Avian (belatedly).
Rowana: Oh yes - at first, the scene with the kiss in front of the court, and then after Gen's bad dream stood out the most
emerald: you aren't aged
alpestars: CAPTIAN OF THE GUARD
alpestars: darn, i can't spell!
emerald: *Captain?
alpestars: <3 Teleus, too.
aged_crone: You know, Attolia and Gen definitely have the traditional royal ability to ignore the servants and whoevers standing around.
alpestars: i know, i am a caption
Rowana: (And you're only as aged as you feel inside. Or so my mother says.)
Avian from x.x.x.20 left this message 13 hours ago:
yes, the cupcakes came out nicely (nick stole about a dozen as soon as they were out of the over so i assume they tasted good too :P)
emerald: Captian sounds like Martian
aged_crone: Then I'm safe, because I can't quite grasp the concept that I'm older than Nancy Drew. She does everything, with such talent...
emerald: sorry, me being random
aged_crone: Do I have a title? I forget!
Rowana: Leslie - they really do. I guess they must both be used to it
aged_crone: That whole "I love your eyes..." with somebody else in the room...
alpestars: haha, i lovvvee that scene
emerald: Ro, does Leslie have a title? How can Leslie NOT have a title?
alpestars: i didn't get it when Attolia offered her wine to Gen, though. To remind the court who was boss? So that the court forgets about Gen's threat, and he seems inept again?
Rowana: ...She must have a title. Isn't it on the post?
aged_crone: I have over 5000 titles, downstairs in my library.
Rowana goes to look
Rowana: Hah.
aged_crone: To make Gen laugh and calm down.
emerald: That's it!
emerald: Court Librarian and something to do with knowledge and history and books
Rowana: Yes - Ornon knew he wouldn't be able to calm Gen down - she managed to
Rowana: That's where the comment on her tugging him back came from, wasn't it?
aged_crone: But later when they danced she couldn't stop him.
emerald: yeah, his wildness frightened her
emerald: oh yeah, that dance was awesome]
alpestars: Oh, I see. Wow, that's a threatening way to calm someone down. It would only work with Gen.
emerald: Hey, Attolia always threatens harm to Gen when she's flirting with him
aged_crone: Well, he knew she wasn't serious. And they both have weird senses of humor.
alpestars: and in the dance, only phresine (or a few other queen's attendants?) noticed his impossible skill, right?
emerald: like: it's not to late to see you chained to a wall. and have any mistresses and i'll cut your other hand off
aged_crone: Not only his skill, I think, but the obvious closeness and trust of the two of them.
alpestars: yeah, i remember. good point!
Rowana: I guess with their kind of history they have to, Leslie
alpestars: the wine thing was just a bit more indirect
aged_crone: I can just picture her working at her desk, and Gen walks in and says, "Can I give you a hand?" and then starts laughing like an idiot.
emerald: indirect? i thought it was pretty direct
emerald: LOL
Rowana: lol - it's the kind of this he'd do
emerald: we should list all the hand puns/jokes there are and make a song out of them. maybe not
Rowana: lol - I forgot to ask - did you make more than one implement for doll Gen's arm, Emerald?
emerald: ...i'll leave that to Dite
emerald: hehehe, YES
aged_crone: BTW, I copied all of the Iharthdarth comics to my computer. I especially loved the one where Vader says to Kenobi, "The last time we met, you were the master and I was only the student," and Kenobi replies, "The last time we met you were a burning nub."
Rowana: ... :D
aged_crone apparently has as weird a sense of humor as the King and Queen of Attolia.
Rowana: How did you make them detatchable?
Rowana: Lol - I love that one Leslie
emerald: http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r31/sounis/?action=view¤t=Genaccessories.jpg
Rowana: Was that the one where they talk about healthcare?
emerald: Magnets embedded in the stump of Gen's arm and the hook and hand had drawing pins (magnetic) at their bases to hold them on
aged_crone: No, that was a different one. In fact, I think there were several health care ones.
alpestars: what is the reddish-purplish wool thing?
emerald: the health benefits one was good
Rowana: That's ingenious Emerald, (I bet Megan appreciated it :D)
aged_crone: And I loved the full-color goodbye one with "Look, it's a galaxy far, far away."
emerald: Alpestars - that is the "wooden" hand. it turned out a bit lame. i like the hook the best
alpestars: darth doing yoga and *breathe*
aged_crone: Hey, you didn't make all 100 attachments!
emerald: (Ro, Megan emailed Checkers too calling them "uber-cool" what's more, she was surprised !!! I thought she'd have suspected something!)
alpestars: i like the sword. :P
Rowana: You can always send more with the Eddis doll. :D
emerald: yeah, and the canary yellow coat
Rowana: (Really? I guess you kept it pretty under wraps)
emerald: (haha, noooo. just buried in the backlog)
Rowana: (That too. :) Did she say anything else about them?)
emerald: (she took photos. awesome photos i haven;t uploaded yet. i'll do that now)
Rowana: (Okay. :) )
Rowana: I'm going to stop talking in brackets now
emerald: (okay, me too)
Rowana: It makes me feel like I'm whispering. :)
emerald: d'oh
emerald: http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r31/sounis/?action=view¤t=IMG_2908_2.jpg
Rowana: Alpestars - it's a good thing you asked for the short story. Three other people also emailed me after seeing your comment to ask me for it too.
alpestars: glad to initiate the throng of callers
aged_crone: Emerald! He's got on the bell-shaped sleeves!
alpestars: i liked the story, except i wanted more!
emerald: well yes, Leslie!
emerald: he has a scar too but its difficult to see on the photos
Rowana: What's the password for the photobucket account again?
aged_crone: Such detail! Fabulous!
emerald: i'll email it to you
aged_crone: Just going through the IHarthDarth files - another funny one is where Darth spreads his cape to cover Leia in her gold bikini.
Rowana: Thanks. :)
emerald: hah, you can't forget a password like that heehee
Rowana: that was quick :)
emerald: thanks Leslie, not as much detail as your beaded purse though
aged_crone: Yeah, but I didn't actually create the purse, I just transferred things from one piece of fabric to another.
emerald: well, Megan invented Gen and Attolia, not me
emerald: Ro, what are you uploading?
aged_crone: I wonder if the three cups of espresso I had at about 2:00 are why I'm so awake?
emerald: heehee. *offers cookies*
aged_crone: And why I keep jumping from subject to subject like a hyperactive flea?
Rowana from x.x.x.170 joined the chat 12 hours ago
aged_crone: Welcome back.
Rowana: My connection gave up on me
emerald: hah, good thing we don't have any Red Bull around
Rowana: I'm not uploading anything Emerald - I just couldn't figure out how to see both pictures without signing in
alpestars: i'm eating cereal.
aged_crone: My brothers drink that. I tried it once, and Icccccckkkkkkk! It tasted sickeningly sweet, like drinking liquid gummi bears.
emerald: Ro- i didn't link the first picture because the fake hand looks so lame in it.
emerald: Alpestars - cereal is GOOD! what cereal?
alpestars: frosted mini-wheats.
emerald: ....
alpestars: cereal is the ultimate morning-noon-afternoon-night snack.
emerald: Dregs of Frosties anyone?
emerald: It is! It is!
aged_crone: I just had some yummy cereal by Kashi - multigrain flakes with dehydrated strawberries and raspberries in it.
aged_crone: Darn, I didn't save my Dregs of Frosties poem, I'll have to go back and copy it.
emerald: oooh, poem. have i heard this one?
alpestars: i have the pack of miniature boxes of cereal, so tomorrow i might be eating frosted flakes or frosted... apple jacks?
aged_crone: It was only four lines. Yesterday or the day before.
emerald: okay. i remember
alpestars: i am interested in the poem!
Rowana: Oops, wandered off. Emerald, I like the fake hand. :)
aged_crone: I love Apple Jacks, but they always do severe damage to the roof of my mouth.
Rowana: And I'm now craving cereal
Rowana wanders off to mix coco pops with muesli
emerald: awww, me too
emerald goes to get cereal

aged_crone: Alpestars, you have to understand that this was in the context of a poetry discussion.
aged_crone: Which was based on a previous discussion about The Dregs of Frosties.
alpestars: ok
emerald eats cereal
aged_crone: It helps if you recognize the fact that some of us in here waved bye-bye to our sanity long, long ago.
aged_crone: In a galaxy far, far away.
emerald: LOL
aged_crone: chortle, chortle!
alpestars: insanity is closely related to brilliance
emerald: ...where Fido the palace dog went on his weekly walk with Gen
alpestars: according to my psychology class
emerald: it won't save us
aged_crone: I don't remember if it was in here or in LJ that I posted my limericks.
aged_crone: I should write some more. That was fun.

aged_crone: Poor Alpestars!
emerald: bombarded :)
Rowana: lol
alpestars: Leslie or Emerald, where did those lines comes from?
Avian backlogs
aged_crone: We made 'em up.
Rowana: the limericks?
aged_crone: I think some of them were posted on LJ. Some may have been in Chatzy.
Rowana: lag, sorry.
aged_crone: Want another one? I think I have two more in my files. I may have written others, but no idea where they are.
emerald: i tended to make them up about comm members....i'll tell you them after you've met them
emerald: that way i can't be accused of....
Avian: "Not only his skill, I think, but the obvious closeness and trust of the two of them" - yeah that's what i took away from the dance comment
aged_crone: Also that he likes her with her hair hanging loose.
aged_crone: :)
Avian: :P
alpestars: ...backlogs?
emerald: (I imagined she had her hair loose when she danced in the garden under the orange trees)
alpestars: they're clever!
Avian: "I can just picture her working at her desk, and Gen walks in and says, "Can I give you a hand?" and then starts laughing like an idiot" - Leslie!!! you never fail to make me laugh!
Avian: to backlog: to read what i missed and comment randomly on it
Avian: :P
emerald: was it Willow who made a hand joke in her fanfic?
alpestars: ah, thanks
emerald: Insomnia
Avian: Insomnia is fabulous
emerald: the fanfic, yes
emerald: When Gen and Attolia cry: "“We should keep this up,” he’d said. “Between the two of us, we could single-handedly end the drought. Well, single-handedly on my part, anyway.”"
emerald: to quote Willow's fanfic, Insomnia
emerald: hey Alpestars, read the lego fic yet?
Avian: oh... Em, that's a really good picture of the dolls
Avian: and Gen's sword
emerald: http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/50507.html#cutid1 because Checkers is BRILLIANT
emerald: (not insane)
Avian: (makes up for telling about her insulting Megan :P)
emerald: (definately. Checkers is generally awesome)
alpestars: Is Insomnia on queensthief_fic?
Avian: i dunno... i read it in an email
Avian: i'll check though
emerald: Yes
emerald: it is
alpestars: emerald -- nope, haven't read the lego fic either
Avian: second one down on queensthieffic
alpestars: "We should keep this up, hed said. Between the two of us, we could single-handedly end the drought. Well, single-handedly on my part, anyway." i think i remember reading this, actually.
emerald: GO READ IT!!!
emerald: it is truly awesome. i get it out every time i have a bad day and it makes me LOL
Avian: what's muesli?
alpestars: hmm, i have read it!

alpestars: wb, Leslie :)
alpestars: I think I like this fandom.
emerald: noo, accidentally. i meant to delete the one i made for Ro, b/c i am not queen of the comm but clicked wrong one
aged_crone: Muesli = granola
Avian: oh, yummy!
Avian hearts granola lots and lots
aged_crone: Alpestars, I'm glad you like this fandom.
emerald: thinks
aged_crone: Granola would be another good kingdom. Eddis, Attolia, Sounis, Granola.
emerald crowns Avian Queen of Granola
aged_crone: Or that you think you like this fandom.
alpestars: Leslie, I'm glad you're glad I like this fandom.
aged_crone: The scary part will be when you think like this fandom.
Avian: Emerald, is that itty-bitty stitching at the bottom of Attolia's dress? wow!
Rowana: Leslie - well put
Avian: oh, my, i've gained a title :)
emerald: Avian, yes it is. actually, the dress and sleeves are fully lined with silk and i had to finish the edges off with something!
emerald: LOL Leslie

One more repeat limerick for you, brought to mind by the hand discussion:
There once was a Queen named Irene
Who was known to be really quite mean
To her subsequent grief
She unhanded the Thief
In a wrenching and heartbreaking scene.
emerald: nice double meanings in that one
Avian: http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r31/sounis/?action=view¤t=IMG_2908_2.jpg
aged_crone: Sorry. I'll stop now.
Avian: King of Legottolia
aged_crone: I don't like to repeat myself. I don't like to repeat myself. I don't like to repeat myself. I don't like to repeat myself.
Avian: i remember that one, i think, Leslie :)
aged_crone: I read KoA before QoA, and still that chopping-the-hand-off scene was a shock.
emerald: Thanks Avian, i was putting all the photos of things i'd made into a separate folders for each project
Avian: no problem :)
emerald: i read the hand chopping scene at 8am before breakfast and felt really weird
emerald: *I first read
aged_crone: Ick. I can imagine.
alpestars: OT (sorry), but can anyone tell me where to find the lego fic?
Avian: i read it at about 10PM and HAD to finish the book after that :P
Avian: i posted the link above
aged_crone: And the way Gen, who had been pleading, when there was nothing else he could do held his breath, and let it out, made me realize why Attolia keeled over in a dead faint in KoA.
emerald: emerald: http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/50507.html#cutid1
emerald: i posted the link above the wrong link Avian posted :P
aged_crone: When he did the same thing.
Avian: OH! i must not have copied it properly
Avian: haha, oops
aged_crone: And it made Attolia realize how badly hurt he really was.
emerald: yeah, when Attolia fainted....
emerald: that was a heart-wrenching scene
aged_crone: In two ways, actually. I think not only did she realize how badly hurt he was now, because he was reacting the same way he had when his hand was cut off; but also, seeing how badly injured he was, she realized even more how much cutting off his arm must have hurt.
Avian: "THE QUEEN IS FINE"
alpestars: Nice observation about the parallels btw Gen holding his breath b/c of the wound from the fight and the wound from his hand!
emerald: Thank you Ambassador Avian
aged_crone: No wonder Attolia fainted.
emerald: my, aren't we getting titles today?!
Avian: haha... that's the line i remembered at the moment
emerald: heehee
Rowana: Poor Gen. Wasn't there a while after that scene when everyone thought that Gen really did love Irene?
aged_crone: Which for some reason reminds me that I do want Gen's father to show up at court just to see him conversing with Attolia.
emerald: yes, until he pardoned Teleus and Attolia slapped him and then Erondites' house fell and the attendants found out
aged_crone: Yes, Rowana, I think so.
emerald: found out that they really did love each other
aged_crone: The slapping changed their minds, because of course no woman would clobber the man she loved (and no *real* man would let her). (Much they knew).
Rowana: Yeah - the words 'poor Gen'' - I just realised that could be a summary for pretty much every book.
aged_crone: Hmmm - there's that Everly Brothers song "Poor Jenny" that we could adapt...
emerald: except, Gen shows himself as a victim because he likes people to underestimate him. he's far from helpless
Rowana: Leslie - it reminds you of the bit about how much a man who stays stoic about his pain really wants to hide it.
emerald: Poor Gen, but for me, more poor Sophos
Avian: i love that line
Rowana: Yes, you're right Emerald. Maybe that was why Costis had to nudge him? Gen wasn't good at revealing his true self.
emerald: yeah, hence Philia's fabulous post on Cowardice and how Gen is actually dead brave
Avian: Gen is far from helpless, but most people would be helpless in his situation
emerald: errrr, poor choice of words, perhaps. very brave

I took my little Jenny to a party last night
At ten o'clock it ended in a heckuva fight
When someone hit my Jenny she went out like a light
Poor Jenny
And then some joker went and called the cops on the phone
So everybody scattered out for places unknown
I couldn't carry Jenny so I left her alone
Poor Jenny
Well Jenny had her picture in the paper this mornin'
She made it with a bang
Accordin' to the story in the paper this mornin'
Jenny is the leader of a teenage gang
Jenny has a brother and he's hot on my trail
Her daddy wants to ride me out of town on a rail
I hope I'll be around when Jenny gets out of jail
Poor Jenny
I went downtown to see her, she was locked in a cell
She wasn't very glad to see me, that I could tell
In fact, to tell the truth, she wasn't lookin' too well
Poor Jenny
Her eye was black, her face was red, her hair was a fright
She looked as though she'd been a'cryin' half of the night
I told her I was sorry, she said "Get out of sight"
Poor Jenny
It seems a shame that Jenny had to go get apprehended, a heckuva fate
This party was the first one she ever had attended
It had to happen on our very first date
Jenny has a brother and he's hot on my trail
Her daddy wants to ride me out of town on a rail
I hope I'll be around when Jenny gets out of jail
Poor Jenny
Avian: situations*
emerald: lol, Avian
aged_crone: Hmmm, that was longer than I thought it would be. Sorry.
aged_crone: But it does show promise. Certainly Gen was locked in a cell, and not lookin' too well.
Avian: and i'm sure Stenides was ready to kill Attolia :P
Avian: and the Minister of War was too
aged_crone: Yeah, I was just thinking how much I'd love to see the next family get-together, featuring Attolia. Gen could forgive her because he's crazy in love with her, but the rest of them aren't.
emerald: Ro, i'm looking where we dig to get to Ohio
Rowana: The bit where he was trying to strange Gen was pretty poignant
Rowana: I wouldn't be surprised if he was willing to kill Irene
aged_crone: Yes.
Avian: i end up in the water between australia and madagascar :P
Rowana: Emerald - we'd have to dig from somewhere half way across the world, wouldn't we? :)
aged_crone: That "yes" was for Ro's first statement, but the second one's probably true, too.
Rowana: Oh, I'm being kicked off
emerald: Indian Ocean

aged_crone: Bye, Alpestars. Welcome to the club!
alpestars: nice chatting with everyone!
aged_crone: Yep, I did.
emerald: bye! nice meeting you!
aged_crone: Also the Jade-insults-MWT transcript. :)
Avian: "/ bye" to leave without the space
emerald: okay, Megan said MoW would probably come round to Irene because they both think in the same way. by calculation rather than poking people
Avian: yes
emerald: Leslie - cool, i lose track, sorry
aged_crone: I'm sure he'd adjust eventually, but the process of getting him there wouldn't be easy, I wouldn't think, however much they both think the same way.
aged_crone pictures the MoW and Attolia sitting around a table getting drunk and lachrymose and ending up friends...
emerald: yeah, i want to see it happening. though that comment "how is your head sir?"
emerald: like in PoTC, Jack and Elizabeth drinking rum on the island
aged_crone: errrr, with somewhat less of the putting-his-arm-around her bit...
emerald: yes
emerald: Gen and Attolia drunk though...Hahaha
Avian: can't picture that too well...
emerald: only in DOOMFIC
aged_crone: Neither can I, somehow.
aged_crone: Gen: "Darling, you intoxicate me!"
Avian: i can see Gen drunk... and kind of Irene... but not together
emerald: playing piggy in the middle with Costis in the middle trying to get the wineskin
Avian: hahaha
aged_crone: Or maybe, "Darling, you intixoxc... intocixc. . . make me drunk."
emerald: LOL
Avian: that i can see!
emerald: Whashisname...whashiname Coshtis...
aged_crone: I can't really see Irene drunk, but I can see her sitting down dutifully *trying* to get drunk, and have it not work.
Avian: yeah
emerald: i can see her trying to get drunk and maybe hiccuping slightly
Avian: and cavering her mouth politely :P
emerald: while Gen cries on her shoulder
Avian: covering*
aged_crone: Wasn't there a cut scene from LotR: RotK, I think, where Legolas isn't being affected by alcohol?
emerald: and Costis says "There, there" stoically refusing wine
Avian: ooo
emerald: Leslie, yeah, the drinking contest between the dwarf and the elf
Avian: i want to read that!
aged_crone: I think if would be funnier if she just stayed stone cold sober in spite of her best efforts.
aged_crone: All those years of control...
emerald: Gen: "Have mine...have mine wine. rhymes heheheheh"
emerald: Attolia: *raised eybrow*
emerald: Gen: itsh my line now....darling
aged_crone: I can see it as more likely a scene if they were both *pretending* to be drunk to do something to confuse the Mede.
emerald: i was thinking of DOOMFIC real. not real-real mwt writes it real
Avian: is the Legolas scene on the web somewhere?
aged_crone: I don't know if it's on the web - it's in the extended version DVD set.
Avian: oh... i have that... i should watch the extras :P
emerald: i dunno, i only saw it on the extended version
Avian: yay!
aged_crone: Did you find the "Easter egg" on TTT where they had Gollum getting all indignant about Dobby?

Easter Egg on the Special Extended DVD: Put in the first movie DVD (The Two Towers Part 1), go to Select a Scene. Scroll all the way down past the last scene ("Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit") and there should be a ring cursor beside "New Scene" and then click on it. It's Gollum's acceptance speech from the MTV Movie Awards. Because of the content, it is not appropriate for children. Please note that this easter egg is not found in the U.K. version.

emerald: yeah, they probably have alerts or something or thats all they do. lol

emerald: yeah, i would have been pretty annoyed if she did
Avian: well, a few girls sent me there pages and it hit me "OMG I HAVE TO PUT THESE ALL TOGETHER"
Avian: lol
Avian: their*
emerald: but i know she wouldn't. the reason she had to reschedule is her manager at work is being a class A loser and she hasn't had a day off/weekend for over a week

emerald: Gen's adaptable. bless his cotton socks
emerald: ahem, bless his goat wool socks
Avian: :D
emerald: There's someone at work who reminds me slightly of Gen. only slightly. don't get excited.
Avian: he wants to (continue to) be the best thief around and be famous, but in a way, he doesn't really want the attention
Avian: how so?

aged_crone: Do we know that Gen's good-looking?
emerald: yes,
aged_crone: I mean, I assume he is, but I don't recall that we're ever told that.
emerald: Hi Rowana!

Rowana: I don't think I've ever seen that shade of pink before
aged_crone: Green Lantern and Pink Emerald.
alpestars: so this is how you switch colors!

emerald: yes
alpestars: eragon was an example of a book published by an author that wasn't the best representation of a best book by a young author, ,though, imo
Ciao!

emerald: Bye
emerald: and hello Leslie
alpestars: philia -- i meant that he could've been all angsty and mopey when he was in the holding cell (waiting for his eyes/ears/tongue to be cut or gouged off), but the mwt made him smart enough to realize that that *wasn't* going to happen to him when eddis and attolia finally remember to rescue him. so we had humor instead of angst.
aged_crone: Frozen out again. Back now.
alpestars: oh, darn. philia just left.
alpestars: hi again, aged_crone!
emerald: call her Leslie
emerald: she only pretends to be aged
alpestars: leslie!
alpestars: anyone else have names i should know about?
emerald: hah, glad you asked
emerald: you need a title in Queen Ro's Court
alpestars: aheh.
Avian from x.x.x.20 left this message 13 hours ago:
yes, the cupcakes came out nicely (nick stole about a dozen as soon as they were out of the over so i assume they tasted good too :P)

aged_crone: Then I'm safe, because I can't quite grasp the concept that I'm older than Nancy Drew.
Rowana: that was quick :)
emerald: thanks Leslie, not as much detail as your beaded purse though
aged_crone: Yeah, but I didn't actually create the purse, I just transferred things from one piece of fabric to another.
emerald: well, Megan invented Gen and Attolia, not me
emerald: Ro, what are you uploading?
aged_crone: I wonder if the three cups of espresso I had at about 2:00 are why I'm so awake?

alpestars: i'm eating cereal.
aged_crone: My brothers drink that.

Avian: haha, Leslie, i had to read that 5 times :P
emerald: i'll get Checkers to add it
aged_crone: :)
aged_crone: Anybody there? Maybe my computer just froze up again...
emerald: sorry, tidying up photos
aged_crone: Nope, everybody just got quiet.
Avian: here!
Avian: was looking at photobucket account
alpestars: was searching for the lego fic, here

Avian: Gen is far from helpless, but most people would be helpless in his situation
emerald: errrr, poor choice of words, perhaps. very brave
aged_crone from x.x.x.166 left this message 11 hours ago:
Rowana: Oh, I'm being kicked off
emerald: Indian Ocean
emerald: darn
Rowana: Nice talking. :)
aged_crone: Bye!
Avian: bye, Ro!
Rowana: Bye
Rowana from x.x.x.170 left the chat 11 hours ago
emerald: boatpool it is. Bye Ro ro ro your boat! :P
alpestars: i must go too.
Avian is happy not to have to cross an ocean and stick to car
aged_crone: Would that make her *Captain* Ro Sparrow?
Avian: bye!
emerald: Leslie, did you get the deleted threads of the questions we asked Megan?
aged_crone: Bye, Alpestars.
Avian: i just watched the movies. never got to the extras
emerald: wow, i've been here for 3 hours. my eyes are going funny. Nice talking to y'all! Leslie, a drunk Gen limerick?
emerald: Bye!
Avian: bye, emerald!
aged_crone: Bye!
aged_crone from x.x.x.166 left this message 11 hours ago:
Easter Egg on the Special Extended DVD: Put in the first movie DVD (The Two Towers Part 1), go to Select a Scene. Scroll all the way down past the last scene ("Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit") and there should be a ring cursor beside "New Scene" and then click on it. It's Gollum's acceptance speech from the MTV Movie Awards. Because of the content, it is not appropriate for children. Please note that this easter egg is not found in the U.K. version.
Avian: have you read Tuesday's with Morrie?
emerald: (thanks for doping the transcript!)
emerald: *doing
aged_crone: Nope, haven't.
aged_crone: From what I've heard, not my kind of book.
Avian: oh, just wondering. my aunt bought it for me, and i think i'll start it later
emerald: doing+typing=?

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes's first book, written at 13 and published at 15, is very short but oh-so-good (if you like vampire novellas). So are most of her other books, though I would NOT recommend the sequel to Hawksong. (I would, however, recommend Hawksong to any/everyone who loves QoA. It's not about vampires. It's very, very good.)
Leslie--baseball movie--Field of Dreams. One of my mother's All-Time favorites.
(look at me backlogging in a Sounis post. *facepalm*)
aged_crone: "Yes, no one knew, but I had fallen head over heels in love with that fabulously gorgeous Nahuseresh. Oh, that oily red beard!"
...
*has no words*
also, alpestars, after that, were you implying that the evil!Heiro lines could have been said by Sejanus?? ...bunnies...must...stop...the bunnies...
Rowana: I never thought about it much, but Gen must have been incredibly jealous of Nahusaresh at one point
I always think of that "and I hate the Mede" conversation he had with Eddis. I love that conversation, 'cause at first you're like "oh, he hates the Mede 'cause he's still alive" but then you're like "...oh...he hates the Mede because the Mede is going to get Attolia" (especially the "he would condescend to take Attolia" section, 'cause it mirrors the first conversation).
Rowana: KoA felt more like a bridge book to me actually. Like a penultimate book, setting up for some finale.
I agree--it's the first one where she's left threads hanging, which gives that whole "setting up" feeling.
aged_crone: I am very very aged. If Jade were here I could tell her that I am more aged than her mother.
...
*stews*
aged_crone: BTW, I copied all of the Iharthdarth comics to my computer. I especially loved the one where Vader says to Kenobi, "The last time we met, you were the master and I was only the student," and Kenobi replies, "The last time we met you were a burning nub."
HARTH DARTH LOVE. (my favorite is the one that explains why the medical droids always keep a spare bottle of ketchup in the refrigerator. XD)
OMG IT'S MEGAN'S HOUSE. *stares in awe* Emerald, that's so freaking cool. I'm so proud of you.
*applauds Leslie's "Dregs of Frosties"* yes, yes, the subtle rhyme scheme clearly links the fact that the frosties are dregging--see, it's got words like "dregs" and "legs," which sound heavy, weighing down the lines--
sorry. Been trying to understand The Faerie Queene. :-b
aged_crone: Also that he likes her with her hair hanging loose.
emerald: (I imagined she had her hair loose when she danced in the garden under the orange trees)
agree with both! lovely. ^_^
aged_crone: Which for some reason reminds me that I do want Gen's father to show up at court just to see him conversing with Attolia.
seconded!
aged_crone: I can't really see Irene drunk, but I can see her sitting down dutifully *trying* to get drunk, and have it not work.
*keeps this idea in mind*
OOOOH Gollum's acceptance speech! LOL! *giggles at memory*
well...I'm done! Woot! Sorry I missed all-a-y'all!
