A little reminder that the Questions thread is open. For everyone who's ever had any question of any sort that they've ever wanted to ask Megan Whalen Turner, go to the memories feature on the profile page, and click on 'Fan Letter'. Stick your question in a comment, and it'll be sent. So far, only fabricalchemist and checkers65477 have had a say, and the letter won't be half as good if it's only sent from three of us. :)

On another note, I got us a chatroom on chatzy.com. ( http://www.chatzy.com/870941590793 ) You have to be invited, so invitations will be sent out to everyone whose email address I have. I'm truly terribly sorry to ask this of you guys again, but could everyone else stick theirs in a comment? Or just give some indication that they'd like to be included in live chats, in which case I'll take it off their profile page, or hunt them down and ask personally. Other than the fact that you have to be invited, there seem to be no drawbacks to the chatroom, but if anyone can find another chatroom service which I could link to be directly available to all members of this forum, it'd be cool. I doubt such a thing exists, but thought I'd ask anyway. :D

And just randomly because I have a question that I just thought of: At the end of KoA, Gen mentions that he'd probably eviscerate himself if he tried some sort of jump, and then goes on to say that that gives him an idea of what to do with Costis, and that he'll detatch him from the guard. What did that mean?! Any ideas on what's going to happen?

At the end of KoA, Gen mentions that he'd probably eviscerate himself if he tried some sort of jump, and then goes on to say that that gives him an idea of what to do with Costis, and that he'll detatch him from the guard. What did that mean?! Any ideas on what's going to happen?

And, yes! I noticed that at the end and asked about it in another post. No earthly idea what it means, and I've thought about it quite a bit.

And I'm glad that someone else noticed that bit. I forgot about it, in the excitement of the ending, but it should be the first thing that we find out in the next book.

From what i read, I assumed that Gen is going to train costis as the next thief. Or something along that line. Even later on, Costis realizes that Gen has an important future in mind for him, when he wants to spar and not be arrested. But anyways. That is my assumption. Costis=Thief of Attolia. Gen can train him, but as King he isn't allowed to go sneaking into other people's megarons. Though I'm not sure if Costis can be trained. He's much older than Gen was.

Wow, what a great idea! I hadn't even considered that. The only problem is, as you said, Costis may be too old to be trained, and also Attolia doesn't have the precedent of a thief, it doesn't seem to need one.

Another thought's occurred to me. Since Hamiathes's gift was thrown in the volcano at the end of 'The Thief', is Gen going to be the last Queen's Thief of Attolia?

I think the biggest reason for my thinking this is the part when Gen asks Costis if he will serve him and his god. And since his god is the God of Thieves... something has to be up.

One of Gen's kids could always be the next theif. Or maybe that wouldn't work, cause they'll be half Attolian, and all. I really can't see another thief of Eddis, Gens to perfect for it, lol.

I'll probably do that. :) Good point Caroline, it's hard to see one of Gen's kids in the role. Being the last Thief of Eddis would just make Gen even more epic than he already is, so I think that's what'll happen.

I thought it meant that Gen plans to send Costis to the Medes to collect as much information as he can and spy on the emperor. I'm excited because surely this means there will be another book :)

That's a really good idea Jessica. It'd fit in with their learning the language earlier. And Gen's desire to strangle Nahusaresh. I'm starting to wonder now if it'll actually happen, after all, didn't Gen say he'd talk to teleus in the morning? And then he never did. It makes me wonder if he'll still go through withhis plans for Costis, whatever they are.
