What We Found...
Aug. 11th, 2008 06:23 pmAs many of you know,
rowana,
emerald_happy,
hebe0 and I went to London this weekend.
We had a lot of fun, including using the Stick of Insanity to choose a coffee shop to sit in, being presented with Reprobate Socks, wandering around the Greek section of the British Museum and arguing about Attolian geography, and visiting a bead shop.
And in the bead shop we saw

Yes, that's right, we found a shop selling golden bees. We quickly bought 7/8 of the shop's supply between us (there was a lone silver bee sitting by itself in the box at the end) and yesterday, I made earrings!

^ My ear.
Apologies for the gravity-defying earring... I don't know why my pictures do that.

Date: 8/11/08 05:43 pm (UTC)I was just talking about tributing MWT in a story by having bees, which are also a motif in Howl's Moving Castle. I really ought to do that...

Date: 8/11/08 05:56 pm (UTC)Are they a motif in HMC? I didn't notice that.
*thinks*
Is it the honey witch?

Date: 8/11/08 07:30 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I read Robin Mckinley's new book, Chalice, last week, and there are lots and lots of bees in that.

Date: 8/11/08 07:43 pm (UTC)Attolia had bee earrings - hence the earrings we made - she had to sell them at the beginning of her reign and then, I believe, had new ones made.

I want to batter you for info on Chalice (How does it compare to McKinleys others?) but I will restrain myself.
Willow! Tsk tsk.

Date: 8/12/08 01:28 am (UTC)On the other hand, there is a large pile of French glaring balefully at me. *pokes French with pen* Humph. Your earrings are far too lovely. I must find some. And wear them!

Date: 8/12/08 09:08 am (UTC)Do you know how loud my squeal was when I saw them in the shop? I had to call the others over and Ro still insisted on looking at her little umbrellas first.

Date: 8/13/08 12:53 am (UTC)I read the first chapter, thinking it was out, and got all excited about reading it before I go back to school, and then I go to reserve it at the library and IT'S NOT OUT YET.
