As many of you know, [livejournal.com profile] rowana, [livejournal.com profile] emerald_happy, [livejournal.com profile] hebe0 and I went to London this weekend.

We had a lot of fun, including using the Stick of Insanity to choose a coffee shop to sit in, being presented with Reprobate Socks, wandering around the Greek section of the British Museum and arguing about Attolian geography, and visiting a bead shop.

And in the bead shop we saw

Yes, that's right, we found a shop selling golden bees. We quickly bought 7/8 of the shop's supply between us (there was a lone silver bee sitting by itself in the box at the end) and yesterday, I made earrings!

^ My ear.

Apologies for the gravity-defying earring... I don't know why my pictures do that.

Awesome!

I was just talking about tributing MWT in a story by having bees, which are also a motif in Howl's Moving Castle. I really ought to do that...

Yes. A bit obscure, sure, but I'll be the only one to know anyway, right?

The only way this could be more awesome is if you found square cut ruby earrings. This is just as good.

I like how your earrings are all curvy! I was thinking of trying to make a spiral, but I don't know how well the wire would hold up to all that bending. :)

I don't remember any bees in any of the books. Why don't I remember bees? Where were they? I remember many other things, but not bees.

On the other hand, I read Robin Mckinley's new book, Chalice, last week, and there are lots and lots of bees in that.

ARGH.

I read the first chapter, thinking it was out, and got all excited about reading it before I go back to school, and then I go to reserve it at the library and IT'S NOT OUT YET.

*twitches*

You got to read Chalice already? So envious! And when anachred mentioned the bees in HMC I was about to say, Yes, Chalice is supposed to have lots of bees too and I'M SO EXCITED FOR IT TO COME OUT.

But then you said that already.

I want to batter you for info on Chalice (How does it compare to McKinleys others?) but I will restrain myself.

I'm not sure what I will think about Chalice in the cold light of day (I'm pretty sure I will still like it lots), but here is my initial response: http://charlotteslibrary.blogspot.com/2008/08/chalice-by-robin-mckinley.html

Do you know how amazing these are? Do you? Hmmmm? They make me happy!

On the other hand, there is a large pile of French glaring balefully at me. *pokes French with pen* Humph. Your earrings are far too lovely. I must find some. And wear them!

Reprobate Socks sounds like a fun music group. We're all rocking out to their mega[n]-hit "Let It Bee."

pretty much all the cool sounis kids either have Reprobate Socks, or will at some point.

The music group, and "Let It Bee" => awesome idea!
