Hello All;

Actually, I have come to you for help locating a quote. If this is out of bounds, I apologize in advance.
I need this quote (which I'm pretty sure is from King of Attolia) for school, actually, and my book is at home, not college. Alas. Anyway, I need the quote Eugenides says I believe to Costis, about his belief in his god. I always remember it as something along the lines of "I will dance until I fall" with the implications that it's the god who will someday let him fall.

Yeah.

I think this one is right. It's the last part of chapter 12:

"Then come out," said the king, helping him, "knowing that you'll never die of a fall unless the god himself drops you."

Or it might be:

A little before that Eugenides also says:
"'Costis, my god is not a ten-devotee-to-the-average-dozen, got-a-priest-on-every-corner kind of god who is always being badgered by his worshipers. He keeps a very close eye on me, and what may look completely stupid to you is merely a demonstration of my faith.'" (339)

I don't remember "I will dance until I fall" but earlier in the book Eugenides has a conversation with Attolia about dancing on rooftops (page 100), but he doesn't talk about his faith as much.

Can I ask what you are using KoA for in your school? Just curious. You don't have to answer if I'm being nosy.

Actually, what I'm reading for class is C S Lewis' essay "The World's Last Night". What I'm using the KoA quote for is the journal where I have to reflect on it. I reflect poorly; what I do do well is pull together random ties. "World's Last Night" is about Lewis' opinion of the Christian Second Coming, and it reminded me of Gen; the whole "It doesn't matter what I do, it's whether my god decides to drop me or not." So, yeah. I am about 4 pages over the expected, and am still going, so it's pretty fun.
