[identity profile] maccalla.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] queensthief

Hey out there! And yeah, I'm working on a better icon.

Reason I'm posting is that I'm a writer, and I want to do a Queen's Thief fic, but it has to be perfect. Anyone out there have good ideas?

BTW, just so you know, I'm tearoha's brother, and just as neurotic, so beware. Also, feel free to turn this into a discussion of anything else you like, but I do want some good ideas. I'll cite you in the references :D

This community is dedicated to book discussion and very occasional fanart rather than fanfic. For fic this comm will generally direct you to [livejournal.com profile] queensthief_fic. This should give you a good idea of what people have written about the books. However, I would advise you that asking for ideas often tends to ruffle feathers. Most writers, fanfictional and otherwise, prefer that you come up with your own ideas rather than ask other people to supply you with theirs. How you choose to approach it is, of course, up to you. Good luck with your fic, by whatever route.

Penguinkye is SRS BZNZ. 8|

I don't think he meant it like, "GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS TO STEAL," I think he just wanted us to say things like "OMG the world needs moar Relius/Eugenides! Write one!" Er. Although I personally think my brain would implode if I read a Relius/Eugenides.

And *snerk*, You make it sound like we're against fanfic over here, lol. Do not listen to her formal sentencery, boy! Post whatever you please here, so long's it's Queen's Thief related. :)

No, I understand what he was asking. I was only saying that unless requests like that are posted on personal journals (ie, to friends) rather than communities, people do sometimes get annoyed by requests for ideas--though of course it depends on the community. Also I am sorry if it sounded like I think [livejournal.com profile] sounis opposes fanfiction. We don't, which is why many of our members post on [livejournal.com profile] queensthief_fic. However, that is where we post it and discuss it--not here.

Welcome, another of the tearoha family! That icon is (searches for a word) alarming interesting.

Yes, visit the [livejournal.com profile] queensthief_fic site for anything fanfic related.

Megan's covered the Magus in a bath, so I'm good. Come 2010...

^_^

If you were to write a fic that I would like to read (though I *don't* read the stuff) it would have a bit more of the god Eugenides, though.

Welcome, brother to our friend!

Hello!
Hamiathes' Hiney, we've got your whole family now. Any strange cousins? We need the set!
Personally, I think it's fine to ask for a few ideas... but guin's right, it's more popular to do that on queensthief fic. And also, guin, we're a fansite for EUGENIDES. What would he think of us if we didn't steal a few ideas from time to time? ;-)
A few ideas I've thought of are:
-The dialog between MoW and Gen in QoA, after the fight with the Mede.
-Attolia decides Gen should be on an Attolian coin.
Feel free to steal!
Basically, anything BUT what aspectabund is talking about. We DON'T need any Gen/Relius, thank you very much. (Evil little TLE on the shoulder: Not that I wouldn't believe Relius/Teleus!!!)

Hamiathes' Hiney, TLE? *dies laughing* I am so going to use that next time someone shuts my arm in a door.

*whispers* We do not mention the strange cousins. They might hear us :P

"Evil little TLE on the shoulder: Not that I wouldn't believe Relius/Teleus!!!" AAAARGH don't say it you'll give him ideas! *hums loudly*
...no no Mac, TLE didn't say anything...

Speaking of strange cousins, I should like to read a good tragic heartwrenching deathbed reconciliation of Gen with *his*.

It's gloomy and cold and I feel like something terribly emo right now.

Welcome!
Personally, I'd love fic that concerns the minor (or, rather, less major ;) characters. But write what you like.

The question is, whose deathbed?

Unrelated Question

Hi everyone, I'm inkasrain and I'm new-- to "The Queen's Thief" and this community. I'm pretty much slackjawed with awe over Megan Whalen Turner and what she's created, and I'm glad there's an lj community that feels the same way!

So here's my question. Last week, after I finished "The Thief," I emailed MWT, letting her know how much I loved the book. I've just finished "The Queen of Attolia" (my copy was delayed by Amazon; it's been a trying week) and now I'd like to write her another email letting her know what I thought about this phenomenal sequel. I realized, though, that I'd probably want to write to her again after I read "The King of Attolia," and I'm wondering if it's overkill (and maybe even obnoxious?) to write three letters in the span of about two weeks.

So should I wait until I've finished "King of Attolia" to write again? I certainly don't want to come across as anything other than an appreciative fan-- all I want to do is express my feelings on "Queen of Attolia" without being influenced by the next book. Two of my siblings thought it would definitely be overkill, though. What do you all think?

(I'm sorry this is so long and strange... I haven't been this deeply affected by an author or a story in a *very* long time!)

I can't speak for Megan, obviously, but I hardly think three fan emails, one for each book, constitute stalking.

Welcome!

Um.
We're the comm that created the Peggy-beast, and you accuse someone of stalking? I think that's known as 'calling the kettle black'.

Surely an author would like hearing this.

hi! welcome to both you and Mac! so nice to see all these new faces in sounis!

those e-mails ... keep in mind they are forwarded to her in batches by the publishing company, so she may not have even received it yet.

:)

could I ask how you found The Thief? bookstore, library, recommended by a friend ...?

Thanks peggy! I actually found "The Thief" completely by accident. I was googling another book, and for whatever strange search-enginey reason, a page came up with a review for KoA. It was so positive, I decided to look into the series, and I am very, very, very glad that I did.

If we're talking about random discussion...
This just came to me.
First thing is from KoA, when Costis is trying to wake up Gen, and the second is from QoA, in the infamous hand scene.

Costis dropped forward onto his knees beside the bed.
"Your Majesty?"
The King flinched as if flame-bitten, but he didn't wake.

"Have I offended the gods?" and he heard someone whisper with his voice, "No, your Majesty."
(Lots of stuff skipped here 'cause I'm to lazy to type it out)
...She stayed to see if he would scream when it was applied. He jerked again agains the the straps but still made no sound.

I'm wondering if Gen heard Costis's voice as his own, since he already doesn't recall saying anything - just hearing himself say it.
Thoughts?

(including thoughts on how to get rid of the italics once you've made them!!!)

I adore fanfic and wouldn't mind seeing any interaction of Gen with his father, or the MoW with Attolia for that matter. And welcome, welcome, welcome.

Yay for new fanfic!!
