I hope I'm not being too forward, but here goes.
Hi! I'm new to this community, I think I've stumbled upon a few times in the past (This being the best place to go for Queen's Thief related business) but I've always been too shy to post or comment.
I'm really in love with MWT and the Queen's Thief. I'm rereading the series for about the billionth time and bursting to talk to someone about it (Why won't any of my friends read it?)

So, about the upcoming book...
1. Does anyone else want to know more about the Medes? I know they're an awful country with all the wrong values, but still!
2. Will it be told from Gen's point of view?
3. Does Teleus's comment at the end of KoA, "That one [...] will rule more than just Attolia before he is done. He is an Annux, a king of kings" mean that Eugenides will rule Eddis, Attolia, and Sounis as one?

I apologize if these topics are over done, but I haven't seen them in any of the "recent" posts.

Welcome too! I never ever made my intro. I just decided to pop up..

A lot of my friends doesn't even like reading books -_- much to my futile encouragements. Been trying to get my own room mate to read them, and she give me the big no no I don't read books. Well you in the right place now.

1.Getting a big feeling Mede will play a much bigger role in the upcoming book. *see mwt presents page*
2.I hope the the book in Gen's view or maybe Attolia view - that be interesting, or just third person. I really don't want a Costis limited view.
3. That a possibility but I'm lost on that one.

Velcome, dahling.*pushes the assimilation button HERSELF, because Checkers is obviously not up to the task*Ooooo... discussion. I love it when there are new members, they have the best discussion questions!!*glomps*1) I don't know much about the Medes, but I have a strong feeling that come 2010 we all will!!!! Especially given that mwt has as good as SAID that they have Sophos!love.2) Again, I don't know... Attolia's PoV would be interesting, good idea KR. I'm pushing for Sophos. Waitwaitwait - guys, what about Magus? What if there was a Magus PoV? Thoughts?3) Maybe he just means all three countries... maybe more... I think Gen will become a legend of his time. Huh, gives me a weird idea. *goes to fool around with said strange idea*

It could be like QoA was, switching POV, only between several people. I would love that! It'd be a Gen/Irene/Sophos/Helen/Magus orgy.

Since the Queen's Thief world is loosly inspired by the real world, I wonder what went into the Mede and what that says about them and their fate.

Why do your paragraphs never work, TLE?

Thanks.
And I just had a mini-seizure because I didn't know the MEDES HAD SOPHOS! What?

1. I think everyone is pretty much in agreement that the next book is going to feature the Mede's pretty heavily. There are just too many things left unresolved at the end of QoA for it to just be an oversight on MWT's part. She's just too damned smart about mentioning little things and then bring them up again when you least expect it.

2. Well, I don't see how she can move her POV any further away from her "main" characters aftr KoA unless she's doing some sort of super constrained/distant third person a la Hemmingway (I think that's who I'm thinking of). Basically where all you get to see are the characters actions and none of their thoughts or motivations, so third person limited from a non-character narrator's pov. I'd imagine that she'll go back to something like the povs in QoA but she seems to pick the pov to serve the story and for the preservation of dramatic tension. She so good at it that it seems pointless to try to guess about what she'll do next. It's like throwing darts at three dartboards that you can't see and you're not even sure are in the same room.

3. Teleus' comment is totally foreshadowing. It's too deliberate not to be and when added to our knowledge that Eddis is going to be destroyed, it seems highly likely that it will become a part of either Attolia or Sounis. As for what's going to happen to Sounis... I think that's a little more up in the air. It's either stated or heavily implied that the unity of the three countries is necessary if they want to have any hope of defeating the Mede, but I wouldn't look for MWT to bring that about in any predictable way.

Nice analogy. ;)

Welcome =)

2. I love Gen, but Costis' POV did provide me with much entertainment. I don't mind another new character's POV as long as it's done well =D
Although it is rather hard to underestimate Gen after KoA (And the underestimating-Gen is half of what's so fun about Costis' POV).

Yes, I will say that I ADORE Costis's POV (and Costis himself) and would love to see much more of him in the next book...

I like Costis quite a lot (particularly as he warms up and his sense of humor emerges) but it was a little bit difficult for me to move from the intense intimacy we had with Gen in The Thief and QoA to the much more distant and (only occasionally accurate) view we got from Costis. Did anyone else find this?

Despite that, the rampart-jumping scene near the end of KoA has become one of my favorite scenes in any book, ever. It's just so sharp, so funny, so sad; completely awesome.

Well I also like how Costis' pov = inside joke with the reader, who's in the know of how awesome Gen is. (But that might be just me liking meta too much.) And I was looking forward to Costis turning into Gen's fanboy with much glee.

...I guess I love KoA so much because of all the humor. (Sorely needed after QoA's grim subject matter!)

It is definitely *very* funny, and at the oddest moments! For some reason I found the post-assassination-attempt scene with Eugenides on the bed just hilarious, and I laughed even harder when Attolia fainted. (I hope I haven't just revealed myself as a terrible sadist, but I could just see it all so clearly, and played out, it was comedic brilliance.) Certainly a switch from the terrific angst of QoA. (although I did love Eddis's remark that philanderers think everyone else is philandering...)

Hi Kitsune! Great questions, ones I've been pondering myself.

1. I am DESPERATE to know more about the Medes. There are so many fascinating possibilities in regard to their culture and society. For some reason, I've been wondering if they are monotheistic, since in a few other ways they seem to somewhat resemble the Islamic Turkish Empire; this might explain why they view the Attolians as "barbarians," even though they seem pretty advanced.

2. I would love to return to Gen's POV... but barring that, I would figuratively explode with glee (or at least start bouncing) if Sophos were to narrate-- and if the Medes have him, we could learn about them as well! Alternatively, I found Nahusaresh's servant Kamet potentially interesting, and I wouldn't mind him as a narrator at all.

3. I'd imagine so. What this means for Eddis does not inspire optimism on my part, however.

Thanks for the thoughtful questions!

1. The Medes are so coming up. I want a fight between Nahuseresh and Gen. After the whole 'I can't strangle him with one hand because I have a dirty great razorsharp HOOK on the end of one arm'.

2. I think it's funnier, somehow, when it's not Gen's POV. Like Costis' and Relius' in KoA. Relius' take on the coin-flipping scene was one of the funniest parts on KoA, I think. :D

3. Definitely.

I want a main mede character, and I actually don't think ALL medes will be evil. Just their leaders. XD

I know, I'd like one too. Maybe Kamet could be our eyes in Mede-land? I thought he had some real character potential.

I agree. Since we know the Mede's have slavery, I would be surprised if MWT didn't incorporate it into her storyline somehow. Slave revolt led by Eugenides? XD
