It's been just over a month since Moira's Pen came out, and you know what that means! Time to freak out in the Conspiracy Room! Join your fellow reprobates for a chat next weekend, Sunday, December 11th at 6pm CT/7pm ET to discuss the new book and all the new lore.

This chat will have spoilers, so if you haven't read the book yet, what are you waiting for?

See you there!

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com
As always, feel free to start your own threads, but be sure to hide spoilers with a warning under an LJ-Cut for at least a month from the release date of the new book. Not everyone is going to finish the book on the first day. :)

Use this thread with handy sub-threads to discuss the new short stories and poems. Simply reply to the comment with the name of the story or poem you want to talk about. There is a thread at the bottom for the extra content, such as the almond cake recipe and the art references, if you wish to discuss those. I've not included threads for the previously published and renamed?? short -stories, as we recently discussed those. Also, I don't consider discussing already published content to be spoiler-y, but feel free to start threads on those if you'd like to revisit them.

With all that out of the way, let's freak out in the comments! ;)

Table of Contents under the cut.

May I borrow your pen? )

Just as I was peering out the door, humming “Oh oh the Wells Fargo wagon is a-comin’ down the street, oh please let it be for me,” the Amazon van pulled up and delivered my precious book.

It’s beautiful! And the drawing on the endpapers made me smile. But no spoilers, so you’ll have to see for yourselves.

Two back to back chats coming up next week!

Dress up as you favorite QT character for Halloween and join us in the Conspiracy Room next Sunday, October 30th 6pm CT/7PM ET for [livejournal.com profile] sounis's annual masked Halloween chat! If you've never been, check out general guidelines and pointers on my post from last year. If you would like to reserve a character, please comment anonmously below with the name of that character. Don't want to give away your identity before the chat even starts!

If you're planning to stay up till midnight (ET) on the night of Monday, October 31st, refreshing your Kindle for the Moira's Pen ebook, I've got the party for you! Hang out with your fellow reprobates in the Conspiracy Room officially from 10pm - 11pm CT/11pm - Midnight ET. If you've gotta go to bed before then, many of us will be showing up earlier throughout the evening to speculate and discuss. So stop by once you're done trick-or-treating and before you go to bed! Even if you should be going to bed by like... 10pm... sigh.

As soon as you're done reading Moira's Pen, stop back in [livejournal.com profile] sounis to squee about the new content. I will start a spoiler thread for discussing the new book on the morning of November 1st.

Happy Halloween!

How's your summer going, Sounis? Hope you're having fun and not just counting the days till Moira's Pen releases, which is only a few months away! Here's what's coming up as the summer draws to a close, and we approach November 1st.

Sword at Sunset )

We have been planning to celebrate the release of Moira's Pen by re-reading and discussing all MWT's previously published short stories, including the ones that do not take place in the QT universe.

My plan is to give you all two weeks to read the non-QT stories, take a break, and then cover two QT short stories each week from there. These short stories are… well… short, so they should only take about twenty minutes are so to read.

If you do not own all or even any of those elusive out-of-print editions that had the older short stories published in them, scans of the short stories are available HERE for Sounis members. Instead of Three Wishes should be readily available at libraries. If you don’t have access to the Best Short Stories anthology book that The Baby in the Night Deposit Box was published in, looks like you can read most of it on Google Books.

Have a schedule. Short stories are in chronological order, BTW...

Schedule )

That should give us plenty of time to cover everything and still have a short break before the book comes out, so we can do a Halloween chat and a midnight release party for Moira's Pen. Megan really likes to release books around Halloween time. Have you noticed?

That’s all for now!

Excited to speculate about Moira's Pen? Join us for a chat in the Conspiracy Room Sunday, March 6th at 6pm CT/7pm ET. We can wonder if the rest of the Kamet short-story got left on the cutting room floor, ponder if there will be illustrations, and agonize over what the Magus's name is!

If you weren't at the chat last weekend, some updates on coming events.

I know the last thing most of us want to see right now is another message telling us to vote, but here's something we can surely all get behind!

Goodreads is currently having their Best Books of 2020 awards, and we successfully got Return of the Thief added to the Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction nominees through the write-in option! 🎉It's now in the semi-final round, so if you haven't voted for it yet, you can do so here!

And here is Megan's post about it on Tumblr!

Congratulations, you have survived to this day, which, considering the year we've had...was easier said than done.

Welcome to the official Return of the Thief discussion thread. This may go without saying, but SPOILERS! I wouldn't venture inside till you have completed the entire book.

How to use this post-
(1) Use the chapter threads to discuss chapters and the events therein individually. Each chapter sub-thread has the first sentence of that chapter. Links to sub-threads in the sub-threads will be added as needed.

(2) Respond to the post itself to discuss the book as a whole.

(3) Reviews and other long, detailed posts about the book may be better served by a new post to the community. Just follow [livejournal.com profile] sounis's spoiler policy and you'll be as golden as Costis's ten cups. I will add links to those under the second cut as they appear.

(4) This post is currently sticky, and will remain at the top of the community for a bit, so it's easy for everyone to find the most active threads.

Hey, just some reprobate wrangling here! In light of RoT coming out in less than a week and the likelihood of some advanced copies floating around, it seems prudent to review [livejournal.com profile] sounis's spoiler policies for before and after the book is released. I haven't been terribly rushed in posting this, since everyone has been doing a great job of keeping spoilers to spoiler threads, but I've noticed a few anxious comments about spoilers and people planning to avoid the community till after they've read the book.

[livejournal.com profile] sounis's spoiler policy is in place in order to make that unnecessary and allow you to scroll without fear.

The policy is as follows:

Spoilers are not allowed in the comments on spoiler-free threads or on the main page. Threads are considered spoiler-free unless otherwise stipulated. This will remain in effect until a month after the book's release.

All spoiler-y discussion of Return of the Thief (a spoiler is any information about the book concerning the plot) must be hidden under an LJ-cut with a clear warning, preferably in the title. A warning can be as simple as putting SPOILERS at the beginning of your post with all spoiler-y text hidden under a cut. I'm happy to help if you're having trouble understanding how to use a cut.

Any comments or posts found in violation of this policy may be deleted without warning. We don't want to have to delete anything. We like being benevolent despots, so please be kind and hide those spoilers! :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like I did for TaT, I will be posting an opening thread for RoT the morning of October 6th, where we can start discussing. Everyone is welcome to post their own threads about the new book, as well, just please follow the above spoiler policy.

If you have an advanced copy, I just ask that you wait till October 6th before you start discussing it, since we are so close to the release day at this point. Starting threads about spoilers that are available to the public is perfectly fine as long as [livejournal.com profile] sounis spoiler policies are followed.

[livejournal.com profile] checkers65477 and I will be wearing our mod-hats over the next few weeks and keeping an eye on things for you. If you come across any spoilers where they shouldn't be, please let us know.

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com

Yup, we're that close. That means it's our last chance to speculate and theorize about the final book!

This Sunday, October 4th we will be having a spoiler chat in the Conspiracy Room to discuss everything we know about the new book.

4pm Pacific Time
5pm Mountain Time
6pm Central Time
7pm Eastern Time

The World Clock has more time zones.

As it says on the tin, this chat will contain spoilers, so if you don't want to know anything about the book before you read it, cover your ears and sing Look Away. :)

How spoiled are we talking here? )

Some clever people on Tumblr have made graphs and flowcharts for their Return of the Thief wish lists and predictions—I, on the other hand, lack the brain power for anything more complicated than this bingo card.

(Image under the cut contains spoilers and speculations for RotT, including the Apple preview and MWT's 3 secrets. Comments will probably be spoilery as well.)

Just for fun! )

p. s. Can someone remind me when/where we're supposed to make our Where's Eugenides contributions? I've lost track of the original post. Thanks!

Hear ye, hear ye!

Or should that be Here ye, here ye, as in here in [livejournal.com profile] sounis ?

Our official reread has begun as we prepare for the Oct. 6 release of Return of the Thief . Each week we'll reread one of the books and associated short stories, and each Sunday we'll have a discussion chat. Our first chat will take place on Sunday, Aug. 30 at this time:

4pm Pacific Time
5pm Mountain Time
6pm Central Time
7pm Eastern Time

Check the World Clock for more time zones.

Chats will take place in the Conspiracy Room. Password is HERE. All are welcome, but you have to be a member of the community to access the password.

This week's topics of discussion will be The Thief and two short stories: Thief! and Eddis. Scans of the short stories are available HERE for Sounis members.

The chats will have a pretty casual format, but please bring a talking point or two with you. But we'll keep the chats spoiler-free for Return of the Thief, so no speculation about the new book.

Hope to see you all on Sunday!
[identity profile] freenarnian.livejournal.com

(I jest. It's always been about winning for Gen. Winning hearts. D'aww.)

So, so, so... the discovery of this page (brief but awesome spoiler potential alert!) on MWT's website caused a minor sensation in the fandom, and seems to fit with a certain theory we've discussed here before. (Clue in the comments for those interested.) Again, spoilers for Return of the Thief! Read at your own risk of being hoodwinked once again by the unreliable narrator gods!

Edit: There are now SPOILERS in the comments, too.

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com
Okay, okay, I know I waited a looong time to announce this, but I wanted to hold off for a spell just in case the release date for RoT was delayed again. The absence of an ARC was, especially, making me reluctant. However, it does appear the book is on track, so I’m pretty confident in moving forward with celebratory plans for before and after the book. (Also, I’ve been working 40+ hours, six days a week, but I’m not going crazy, I swear... *manic laughter*)

So, so , so… I’m issuing the following edicts.

Join the Conspiracy... )

That’s all I have for now. Please, let me know if you have more idea of ways we can celebrate!

Excited to see The Thief featured in Book Page's July issue. Sharing because I thought the reviewer did a great job of recommending it without giving too much away (a notoriously tricky task)!

Who else is enjoying/looking forward to rereading the series before Return of the Thief arrives in October?
[identity profile] freenarnian.livejournal.com

MWT has a book update on her tumblr!

"I am happy to report that I have finally reached that magical point where I tell my editor yes, if I get hit by a bus tomorrow, she has my permission to publish the book posthumously.
I am still working on it, though, because I can’t stop until the copy editor threatens to murder me.
Publishing is a more violent profession than you might have realized."

(I definitely read that last bit in Gen's voice.)

Hooray! And congratulations to MWT! That is a wonderful accomplishment. :)

Just got word that Amazon now shows the RotT release date as October 6....not August 25th anymore. Mac's Backs (MWTs local bookstore) also now says October 6th, though the audiobook version still have the original (2nd original) release date in August.

Can anyone else confirm what the ACTUAL release date is now?

[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com
We have a date, we have a date! Amazon and Goodreads lists the release date for Return of the Thief as August 25, 2020. Another whole year, boohoo! But, only one more year, hooray! Glass half full, people!

And there's an interesting article about the release date, with some musings about what may happen to Eugenides and Friends in this last book. Take a look at Beth Aderhold's Hypable article here.
